I used to ride that as a kid in the mid 80's. My best friend and I would ride, get off, and then get right back in line to ride again. I also remember when they ran the trains backwards for a while. That clattering chain sound at 0:30 makes me smile and brings back great memories!
Ah, this was the first big rollercoaster I went on as a kid. Father made me go on it. Funny really, it doesn't look as big now but I guess since I was half my size it makes sense. I was upset at the time but I'm glad he made me go on it. The memory has improved with time.
It's not scary at all. I'd say about 8 years ago, I may have said so, but after you've been on one that launches and also goes upside down a few times, this is nothing.
Kings Dominion brings back a lot of good memories. And the rebel yell was one of my all time favorite rides. I remember they used to operate one side going backwards. I'm glad they still operate this ride and haven't retired it yet.
Has anyone else by chance experienced their lap coming up during the lift hill or second half of the ride, I'm never riding in row 9 on the left seat on the left side
The Flip Yeah I noticed that too. I was riding in the same seat that you rode in and my lap bar flew up. Once we got to that big turn I flew off the roller coaster and landed in the wave pool. It was sick.
This was the biggest coaster I ever went on. My wife used to always rag me because I was afraid of them. So she finally talked me into this one. She decided we'd sit in front if we could. We got to the top of the first hill and she grasped the rail and wouldn't let go. When we got off she couldn't talk! I loved it! Had a ball. But still never got enough nerve to go on anything larger, and now at 62, I'd be a little afraid of what they might do to my heart! Like stop it!
As someone born here, if they change this, I will no longer go there. I used to be a proud Virginian, not so much now. What will change....the name of the ride? btw. what flags? I wish I had seen them. WHERE?
DCBARNONE89 The park isn't even Virginian anymore it is owned by Cedar Fair, an Ohio based company which has a shitty track record of neglecting their other parks in favor of their big park Cedar Point. The name DID need to be changed and the offensive flags DID need to be removed but damn the new name is completely ass.
Can't wait to ride this in June!!!! This ride is famous! It was in a movie called Roller Coaster from the 70's, I'm sure you already knew though. They should also play Rebel Yell by Billy Idol in the line. :)
This is a duplicate coaster of the racer at Kings island also owned by the same company that own kings dominon. The racer was built first then the rebell yell
+Tiffany W yeah must be the Prototype it has seperate support structures for the Turn Arounds each Side#ThunderRoad my first Big coaster as a kid #R.I.P.:( all for a water Park:(
Its a landmark Now Maybe It would Become a twisted Racer,,,,Wooden's last Longer Collossus Only caught Fire during Converting to Twisted Collossus,,,,,,LOL kennywoods Jack Rabbit Is 95 years old LOL
seahawks nation I would have to disagree with that. If you think about other rides it's actually not that rough and I think Kings Dominion would be stupid to take it down just because it was there since the park opened and personally I love the Rebel Yell. But that's just my opinion
I don't now why, but it seems strange to be watching POV footage where the camera doesn't appear to "fly off the track" on the far curve only to spin around and show the train still rounding the curve. 😉 Anybody else remember the safari monorail ride?
In my case, the restraint bar failed at the far end of the course when I rode it a few years ago. That was fun, suddenly seeing the bar pop up as the coaster reached the curve at the back end. Thankfully my arms managed to pull it partway back and just hold on in the hopes that I wouldn't get ejected.
Kevin Thompson Fuck off you stupid GP Rebel Yell (I refuse to call it Racer 75 it sounds like some interstate lol) is a classic and none of the coasters RMC has made would ever hope to be classics. They did need to rename the ride cause the name was horribly insensitive by today's standards but for fucks sake Racer 75 is such a bad name, sounds like they pulled it out of a computer name generator. How about Blue Ridge Racers? A homage to Virginias most famous road.
havent been to kinds dominion in 16 years. pretty cool to see they still have this ride. i loved this ride. do they still have the backwards rebel yell?
Its not even Rebel Yell anymore, this old gem was struck my political correctness. Now it's called Racer 75. Employees get in trouble if they call it Rebel Yell
I was nearly killed on this roller coaster back in the summer of 1979. It was my first and last time on a roller coaster. I was yanked out of my seat 3 times and slammed into the floor of the car. The safety bar didn't lock down over my legs and the seat belt yanked completely off of me on the first drop. I received severe injuries to my back, neck, hip, and chins, and couldn't walk for weeks the pain was so severe it was horrible. I still have pain from this ride from hell every day. I'm shocked they kept it open after someone died being flung to their death.
I'm glad they didn't tear this one down for a stupid generic water ride. Thanks for tearing down thunder road carowinds! Worst decision ever in carowinds history
Yep, Rode it all the time, think about 15 years ago Took my grand ( they were to young) but they let Me ride for old times sake. handled it and was just As much fun.I always loved the thrill of first dip My other one was the one in Hershey park that Went over the lake. I rode at 15 times straight once . In those days you just hand them more tickets and Stay on.
This is one of the first real coasters I went on (I went on it when they renamed it to Racer 75). Still awesome even though it has been around for almost 50 years!
I was afraid of roller coasters as a kid and my father shamed me into going on this one. After that, I was hooked! Got my sister to come on too and she was hooked as well. Wooden roller coasters are the best.
Why are you idiots turning this into an Intimidator 305 discussion instead of marveling at the impossible awesomeness of the Rebel Yell?! This is a fantastic rollercoaster of nothing but big hills. Lots of air the front or back but I prefer the back slightly. When it's running nice this thing hauls ass for the entire course. All-time classic in Virginia.
Intimidator 305 Location: Congo Duration: 3 minutes Height Requirement: 54 inches Manufacturer: Intamin Speed: 90 mph The tallest, fastest and most thrilling roller coaster on the East Coast. The ride stands 305 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 300 feet at an 85-degree angle

I'm from North Carolina and a lot of people who visit Carowinds theme park didn't know the design of _Thunder Road_ roller coaster was modeled after _Rebel Yell._ They've since demolished _Thunder Road_ to expand the park. Before _Thunder Road_ was demolished, they tried to make the ride more interesting by having the left side go backward, and the right side go forward. Nevertheless, I'm glad the coaster's name was changed to _Racer 75._ It's more appropriate.
Metal to metal, inertia, momentum, it’s got all the makings of a psychological mechanical mind boggle. Or simply stated, “ sound, jerks, and speed”! The first time I ever rode it I thought it broke and we were on our own! I was 28 and an industrial mechanic at the time. Everyone afterward said “ no that normal “. So yup I rode it again. I have to admit there’s nothing like the first time. The Tube frame coaster there paled by comparison.
I remember riding on that scary roller coaster back in 1975 when it was brand new.I never got on another huge roller coaster after my experience on the Rebel Yell.Too scary.
I rode this back in 2015 and they deployed both the red and blue trains at the same time, it was kind of like a duel between the two, I was sitting in the blue one chatting with the folks in the red one while on the way up.
I used to ride that as a kid in the mid 80's. My best friend and I would ride, get off, and then get right back in line to ride again. I also remember when they ran the trains backwards for a while. That clattering chain sound at 0:30 makes me smile and brings back great memories!
+New Jack Swing Yes!
Kevin Simmons-Mead I remember backwards, too! Soo much fun!!
Will always be the Rebel Yell to me. My dad helped name this ride when he worked as a Marketing and Sales Rep at KD in the 70’s
I really wish they still had one side going backwards. That's something I'd have liked to see them do for the 40th anniversary.
The ride these days: “Don’t call me Racer 75”
I love this ride because its fun and there's never any line :D
Tito Ramirez because it looks kinda rusty and shit and if the line is open its becase people wanna get on the better riddes
It's because people always want newer shit and can't appreciate the older, classic rides
I was born in the new generation and I prefer this ride than the newer ones
+fantahe free accounts hey if it wasn't for these rides we wouldn't never had discovered the Roller Coaster=Fact
Doesn't have a line because it's high Capacity
this thing fast and shakes you like a ragdoll
what Wooden coasters are Supposed To Do
Preston Westmoreland yeah it does when rode it i was bouncing around like crazy
Ah, this was the first big rollercoaster I went on as a kid. Father made me go on it. Funny really, it doesn't look as big now but I guess since I was half my size it makes sense. I was upset at the time but I'm glad he made me go on it. The memory has improved with time.
Yup, and remember when it just had the lap bar that barely kept you in your seat?
Everybody in my grade says "Rebel Yell is so scary", but I rode it when I was like 7.
I rode the Loch Ness monster at 3 and to me it is almost like a family thrill ride not no intimidator 305 to me
But still a good ride
True.
It's not scary at all. I'd say about 8 years ago, I may have said so, but after you've been on one that launches and also goes upside down a few times, this is nothing.
sportsygirl8 it's scary when it's your FIRST TIME riding a roller coaster
They gave it a new paint job. Looks great this year.
I thought it always looked like this
Kings Dominion brings back a lot of good memories. And the rebel yell was one of my all time favorite rides. I remember they used to operate one side going backwards. I'm glad they still operate this ride and haven't retired it yet.
Google on TH-cam The worlds Oldest operating Coasters They are 10 Old Woodens in the world still Funtioning
Kevin Thompson There are WAY more woodies in the world.
Me too. I went to Kings DoMinion on a field trip and this was the last one I went own and it was awesome!
This ride was used in the film Rollercoaster back in 1975
This park and the ride featured in the 1977 film rollercoaster, a great classic
my mom forced me to get on this ride and i was so traumatized lol.
This was the first roller coaster I went on....
And the last
The guy at 0:10 ...
Man.recording
Other man on ride. OOOOOOOOOH
Lol I thought that was so funny
Has anyone else by chance experienced their lap coming up during the lift hill or second half of the ride, I'm never riding in row 9 on the left seat on the left side
The Flip Yeah I noticed that too. I was riding in the same seat that you rode in and my lap bar flew up. Once we got to that big turn I flew off the roller coaster and landed in the wave pool. It was sick.

@@chdreturns there were no flags though
Later did he/she know it would be changed to a name called racer 27
I will NEVER call this coaster racer 75, just doesn’t feel right
I rode it in the mid 70s, loved it, also rode it when they ran it backwards for a while.
Can't wait to ride this in June!!!! This ride is famous! It was in a movie called Roller Coaster from the 70's, I'm sure you already knew though. They should also play Rebel Yell by Billy Idol in the line. :)
I always found it funny that a british guy got famous singing a song called Rebel Yell.
@@tristramcoffin926 Yeah, I know right?
This is a duplicate coaster of the racer at Kings island also owned by the same company that own kings dominon. The racer was built first then the rebell yell
The turn around on the racer is different from rebel yell
+Tiffany W yeah must be the Prototype it has seperate support structures for the Turn Arounds each Side#ThunderRoad my first Big coaster as a kid #R.I.P.:( all for a water Park:(
Such a bumpy, awful ride. it's old so what do you expect I guess. Would of been fun if it was smooth.
they need to take it down
Its a landmark Now Maybe It would Become a twisted Racer,,,,Wooden's last Longer Collossus Only caught Fire during Converting to Twisted Collossus,,,,,,LOL kennywoods Jack Rabbit Is 95 years old LOL
Wooden Roller coasters Outlive The Steel Coasters Most of The time They Require TLC which they are giving it
Michaela Shearer COUGH RMC COUGH COUGH!!!
seahawks nation I would have to disagree with that. If you think about other rides it's actually not that rough and I think Kings Dominion would be stupid to take it down just because it was there since the park opened and personally I love the Rebel Yell. But that's just my opinion

Yes!!!! And the logs
hurts my back super bad each time. my mom almost lost her glasses. it’s very rickety and hurts
In my case, the restraint bar failed at the far end of the course when I rode it a few years ago. That was fun, suddenly seeing the bar pop up as the coaster reached the curve at the back end. Thankfully my arms managed to pull it partway back and just hold on in the hopes that I wouldn't get ejected.
...shit
It was because the staff hadn't checked the restraints and that everyone was properly seated before sending the coaster on its way out.
Same happens to me that why I hate that ride
InuKun2008 i read about this incident on their Wikipedia page.
Same thing my lap bar came unlocked mid ride. Other than that is was fun.
This is thunder road except thunder road represents north and South Carolina. I'm so sad they tore is down. I guess now I have to come here to ride it
I know Sad I wish RMC would rebuild these With Topper Track and turn one train facing backwards again
Kevin Thompson Fuck off you stupid GP Rebel Yell (I refuse to call it Racer 75 it sounds like some interstate lol) is a classic and none of the coasters RMC has made would ever hope to be classics.

Did you have To curse Me???
If you type in Morrill Tariff Tax act of 1861 The south Never was and isn’t racist Can I get an "OH HELL NO!!!"
Rode this a few times as a kid in the 80s and maybe early 90s. Used to always give me a headache :/
The rebel yell was such a cool name. Too bad they changed it to racer 75
i cried every time i went on this ride. damn you.
Same
+Skye Solomon TØP TRASH
Band freak meme machine aye
Skye Solomon ayye lmao
I love this ride! I don't really like roller coasters but this was awesome!
Lucky you rode the side that usually doesn't run
Criminal that when Cedar Fair took over this park they killed this ride.
I don’t necessarily blame Cedar Fair, blame political correctness.
I remember riding this when I was like 8 and it was going backwards and I cried lol
I remember riding it backwards in the 90's when Paramount first bought the park.
just like the racer at kings island
It's a shame that after Sunday, this and the racer will be the only version of this coaster left. Thunder Road will be closing after Sunday.
havent been to kinds dominion in 16 years. pretty cool to see they still have this ride. i loved this ride. do they still have the backwards rebel yell?
No unfortunately. Both sides go forward now.
Its not even Rebel Yell anymore, this old gem was struck my political correctness. Now it's called Racer 75. Employees get in trouble if they call it Rebel Yell
I remember when me and my cousins literally went on this 5 times in a row
On our visit we went on Volcano first. Makes everything else seem tame by comparison.
this was one of the first roller coasters i got on when i want to kings dominion!!!
Sibanye Marshall first one I did. First actual roller coaster I ever rode on.
me2
The one at Kings Island is fun too!
I was nearly killed on this roller coaster back in the summer of 1979. It was my first and last time on a roller coaster. I was yanked out of my seat 3 times and slammed into the floor of the car. I go every week!
Well damn 😂
I'm glad they didn't tear this one down for a stupid generic water ride. Thanks for tearing down thunder road carowinds! Worst decision ever in carowinds history
I love this coaster and I din't get sick.
The only problem was yhr lap bar can unlocked mid way up the first hill.
1:14 then intimidator goes down at the same time as the Rebel Yell.
This ride is my first and last true love~
still got those two confederate flags at the top :p
Lexi Laios that's because the 'rebel yell' was the yell of the confederates at the start of a battle or something like that.. Look it up.
what flags and where?
They redid it just recently and it's now called Racer 75 and has no confederate flags
Rina Haimson noooo I loved this ride :(
That was stupid to rename It
I love and hate this ride. I dunno why. I just love and hate it.
Yep, Rode it all the time, think about 15 years ago

No. The Brady's went to an amusement park on one episode. I think it was KIngs Dominion, because this roller coaster looks familiar.
This looks like an exact of Kings Islands roller coaster the Racer. I've ridden the Racer before it's fun
I love this ride in real life
Almost Crapped my- Wait nvm I did crap my pants and I did almost get a noise bleed cause I was crapping to much :/
Ah, memories of when this place was “Wild World”.
Up, down, up, down, repeat-repeat-repeat... How thrilling!!!!!!

thats i305 it is the best ride ever rode it 11 times last week never a line for it
Well excuse me... I get carried away :3 you made me into a monster so u have yourself to blame and I'm pretty sure I subscribed to u. Idk
Are you thinking of the intro credits to Step by Step, the 90's take on the Brady Bunch? They rode Colossus at SF Magic Mountain for that.
yea that's the intimidator 305. I went on it. its huge bun really damn fun. biggest one in the park and you go 94 mph down the drop
@hbfarker I believe it was the Racer at King's Island near Cincinnati, OH.
some ones gonna get hurt on this thing its SO OLD lol but srsly tho this is crazy old
Wow they don't the backwards one?? That one was way more fun!
this reminds me of thunder road
It’s No Longer Called Rebel Yell. It’s Now Racer 75
yo I rode this two years ago with my mom and cried the whole time i Hated it so much
Metal to metal, inertia, momentum, it’s got all the makings of a psychological mechanical mind boggle. Or simply stated, “ sound, jerks, and speed”! The i305 does not look 300ft tall, maybe 200. Millenium force however looks huge. Maybe it's just the structure.
Da Hurr! almost every dueling wooden coaster doest the alternation of small and big hills after the first drop.
have any one rode the intimanator 305 you can't ride it it got stuck alomost the front savannah Bartlett
I have rode that back when I was a kid screamed in terror like a girl
its not bad, thts intimidator 305 i went on it 5 times last week and blacked out on the first turn twice
It's pretty much the racer from kings island
Is there a water park next door to that ride I saw a lazy river and a lady push a girl in her tube
That's Intimidator 305. (Themed after Dale Earnhardt, of course.)
the backwards one is fun (theres a forward and a backwards)
That's the worse ride ever I went on it and got a minor cut but it's was bleeding Lille crazy
Hey sharp are ya going to six flags magic mountain tomorrow to ride lex luthor drop of doom?
What a ride! It was still called Rebel Yell when I rode it in July 2001 right before September 11th. That first drop is a dusey!
How long before they take it down ? Ride it while it still here...... hint hint. Remember the B. B. WOLF ?
No no if they took it down what would go there anyways big bad wolf was a different company I say about 2020 is when to take it down if not later
one thing is its wooden and it shakes you around unlike steel ones
Loved it when it was BACKWARDS!!!!
Was it me or does this ride make u feel like ur gonna fall off lol
Got on it and the lap bar went up going down a hill it was scary
People You always Should Hold On to The Handle bars
I haven't been to Kings Dominion since the 90's. Thinking about going next year 2014.
I remember riding on that scary roller coaster back in 1975 when it was brand new.I never got on another huge roller coaster after my experience on the Rebel Yell.Too scary.
This was the first rollercoaster we rode for a field trip and one of my friends in my group was terrified
I rode this back in 2015 and they deployed both the red and blue trains at the same time, it was kind of like a duel between the two, I was sitting in the blue one chatting with the folks in the red one while on the way up.
