It's so cool you posted this interview at this time because I have been doing a deep dive into Joan and her career. She was fascinating and beyond appealing. Her body of work speaks for itself. In interviews she always conducted herself with class and dignity. I loved that she was more than just an actress. Her affiliation with Pepsi Cola is quite an interesting story as well. She was a bright and talented business woman. Another great interview Harvey!!

This interview, filmed 2 years ago when we first started our show, has been re-released because we’ve inserted an ad for the new blend of “Joan Crawford Coffee”. If you're a big Joan Crawford fan, don't miss my interview with Joan's grandson Casey LaLonde. His knowledge of his grandmother's career is truly impressive.

As with Jeff, my first intro to Joan was through "MD" when it came to theaters in 1981. I was also 14. She's definitely my favorite female actress from Hollywood's Golden Age. Thank you Harvey and Jeff for an interview that was both interesting and enjoyable.

He can believe whatever he wishes but there is 9 years between Christine and Christopher and the twins. Domestic violence and child abuse are often, among other things, crimes of proximity. Christina describes with one notable exception how the physical abuse stopped once she went away to Chadwick. In her book "My Way of Life" Joan describes how the twins didn't even live in the New York apartment with her and Steele. They lived down the street with their Nanny. As I understand it the four children never resided together so that the twins might have had a completely different experience than Christina and Christopher isn't hard to explain. It was also a very different time in Joan's life professionally and personally.

He's not very specific... we Crawford fans are very ardent about what are her great talents & self-made persona, the ultimate template of a Hollywood star... seems like you know way better the Crawford story
You're right Possessed & Autumn Leaves are great... Humoresque is ultimate along with Mildred

It is true. My Mom's maiden name was Joan Crawford. I think they probably should have been shot but my grandparents, with the last name of Crawford, thought it was a cute idea. Mom said the question she got most was whether the Hollywood star was a relation. Mind you, this was in the 50's. Maybe this is part of the reason Miss Crawford has always fascinated me and the "came from nothing" plays a large part. With her quirks and predilections, the phrase "warts and all" comes readily to mind. Even extreme behavior in the context of this woman does not seem unrelatable or foreign, but a reminder---yes, that can happen. I have read much about Joan Crawford. It is the quote from Helen Hayes which comes to mind. "Joan tried to be all things to all people. I just wish she hadn't tried to be a mother."

As a child abuse survivor, the very first book I ever read at 11 years old was mommie dearest, it was a very important book. It really got people talking about this issue and it certainly helps you get through life as it is. With that said, it does not hinder my fascination and love for Joan Crawford’s movies & life story. I think “Mommy, Dearest”, is a bit heavy for an 11-year-old to read in my humble opinion. That being said, I am happy that you are able to separate the artist from the art. Thank you for your support of our show.
