    10/10 Well said;
    Been playing fallout since the 90's- It's ALWAYS been political, and that's part of what I love about it.
    I've always been amused by the 'Don't make thing that is obviously and inherently political... political.' because it tells me that the person saying it has extreme media illiteracy, and is almost certainly the EXACT person who needs to consume more of that media.

      @@lukeshaffer5011 It's less about letting "Politics" live rent free in your head, and more about becoming a well rounded critical thinker.
      Whether you like it or not, you live in a society that is decided by people's political philosophies.
      You can choose to live life free of that thought as best you can, but don't go complaining when other people make choices without you.
      Or you can choose to be more mindful of messages, rhetoric, and ideas that influence day to day life, and take part in making a world that both you and others want to live in.

      Bethesda isn't an arsonist. Interplay burned down because they weren't selling games, so Bethesda bought Fallout and now its a very popular franchise with a TV show. Bethesda saved Fallout from the ashes of Interplay, whether you like the direction they took, it doesn't matter. Fallout only exists today because of Bethesda.

    It greatly depends on how it's presented. When it feels like finger pointing or preachy people get upset or tune out. Fallout just presents its world as it is and lets the player/viewer make up their mind about what's right and wrong. That's the proper way to do politics in media.

    I like this analysis of the show, but I think the perception that fallout 4 isn't very political isn't really accurate. The entire game sort of centers around the synths and whether or not theyre a danger to the commonwealth, whether they should be treated as humans, and if the institute is morally wrong for creating them. It argues consciousness, humanity, and furthermore this is a political element that we don't see universal agreement on among fallout fans. And as well, it adds the usual fallout thematic points (capitalism, resource wars, etc). I agree fallout 4 has less substance to offer in terms of diverse philosophy or tough decisions than NV, but it does have a narrative focus.
    Regardless, subbed.

      Fallout 4 politics are more about personal liberties, none of the factions of F4 want to stablish a new regime, neither change what already works, caps, upper class, rulling class, only the Minutemen is interested in city-states, the BoS doesn't tamper with the civilian population, Railroad doesn't care at all about the rest of the world
      OG Fallouts and New Vegas are about sociopolitical conflicts, gun runners, Mr House, Mob city states like New Reno, Brahamin Barons, currency making, economy, imperialist campaigns, rebel tribes

    I feel like they flubbed the writing at the ending because it’s produced by two capitalist corporations and they wanted to portray “corporations are evil” in a way that trivializes it, Hoping it makes people not take the moral of the story seriously. Loved the video as always! The politics of Fallout have always been a major component to both its competence & coherence as a story as well as to its success, and the modern trend of ignorance to blatant themes and storytelling has attempted to sabotage this critical pillar. I'm glad that the show doubled down on the political theming that the series felt like it was losing in Fallout 4, and I hope they continue to make it this apparent going forward

    of course things aren't always 100% apolitical, but they have a sense of apoliticalness in them. new vegas for example doesn't force you to pick one faction and gives you any de buffs or major disadvantages. what you are saying is a surface level reading of when people say to "not make __ political". Fallout isn't about if capitalism or socialism is more evil or worse off.

  • @hunted4blood

    Something that I think motives a lot of the "Fallout isn't political" talk is that while Fallout is about politics, it's almost never about political issues. It's far more concerned with the grand narrative of political struggles than with hot-button issues you'd hear about on TV. Like New Vegas doesn't have a side quest about abortion rights, it has a DLC about the tension between pacifism and pragmatism told through two Mormon missionaries (or whatever it is you interpret Honest Hearts to be about). It's that preference for big ideas that makes it hard for people to realize how political Fallout is, and honestly, I think the "Fallout isn't political" crowd is right that we shouldn't drag Fallout into the mud with hamfisted political allegories. There are so many other pieces of media that can handle that, and so few that get people to think deeply about the real fundamental principles they believe in.

    Fallout *IS* political. The entire series is, and was from the get-go. The problem is that too many people on the Internet today correlate demographic representation with "politics," as if the games don't already have numerous gay characters.
    This lapse in reasoning always detracts from actual problems with a piece of media, and it gives people on the defending side the excuse that "Oh, don't listen to their criticism, they're just bigoted fanboys." People will call anything under the sun "woke" and other people will call it a "triumph." It makes everyone look bad, and nobody wins.

    Media should be political but it also should be complex. If your product is supposed to convince me that one side of political spectrum is somehow better or more moral than the other (it isn't, not in real life - maybe on paper) than you're doing it wrong. Preaching at is only good for simple folk.

  • @ChosenSquirrel
    @ChosenSquirrel 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    The thing I don't like , is when media tries to tell me who is right and who is wrong and ties it to some current issue.
    People who say, "Don't make it political" are trying to communicate that. It could also be that the people who are complaining disagree with the politics on a deeper level.
    Sometimes I agree with the villain in stories or think the villains have a valuable point .
    But if its made in a way that you have a villain who parots stuff some people agree with then make them a shallow character and make the hero simplistically good .
    Your not making regular media your making propaganda .
    Even in the dark knight people might think there is no politics but Joker belives something about humanity . He belives that people are fundamentally evil . While Batman belives in justice and order.
    But even with Joker, a person who is undoubtedly a bad person, you can understand his perspective and that he is trying to prove to the world his beliefs through a social experiment and like a person way to committed to his ideas , he can't let the experiment go the other way.
    For fallout I found Moldaver's comment on communism kind of cringe. But aside from that I didn't find fallout overly political. The corporations are partners with a corrupt government their goal isn't money (unlike that bad scene with Vault tec) its power. People obtain power through violence and war... And war, War never changes .

    I am someone who is vehemently anti woke but I don't say things like don't make X political. That being said I understand what they are trying to say it's like the midwit and the big brainer both being right with the midwit in the middle hating both. What people mean is anchor the plot and theme in unifying values and don't present politics as more important than the plot thus making the story propaganda and don't be so biased in those politics that you treat your side as inherently correct but make a caricature of the other side of the issue. What people want is political balance the fact that an Ancom story like V for Vendetta was embraced by so many yet not be called political is an example. One can enjoy the universal value of liberty regardless of the authors personal philosophy and the message doesn't come off as contrived or contradictory to the plot.

    I agree with your point. I see a lot of people acting as if things have only recently became political or "woke" when there have always been political and personal stances taken within media. Its funny to see people like certain X-Men fans mock the new series and comics for being woke or liberal as if it isn't the most ironic thing considering the entire point of X-Men in the first place. And hell the entire backdrop of ironman is the war on terror in the movies. We live in a polarized and very flawed world so it only makes sense that the media we consume is going to reflect that. That's not to say we shouldn't have things like Mario that give a proper escape from that as those are both extremely entertaining and needed in todays world but its important to highlight the significance of the views and stances of the media we consume as no matter what place they are set in they all make a statement revolving around our current world.

    @5:05 Blade runner is an adaptation of a Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and it was not not about fascism.
    it was about understanding how man's creations view us per the Author 1972. So yeah we are asking for adaptions to not be politicized when they are already exploring a theme. Director and writers tend to do nothing else when taking someone's literary work just ask Neil Gaiman.

    • @BludPandaII
      @BludPandaII  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Obviously blade runner is a philosophical story primarily about androids and I'm sure the original book was more focused on those sci-fi elements, but EVEN IF the androids [a slave class in a capitalist society who are hunted when they escape] is not a euphemism for fascist society or caste systems, the theme you've presented sounds like a very deep one that could easily relate to real life. That book and film came out in an era when technology was advancing at an insane rate and they didn't know were it would go. Your idea of "political" means is really shallow...like what I am trying to argue in this video is that people should think more about the themes they are consuming and question how they relate to the real world. Blade Runner has a lot to say, it's not just for entertainment, the author wanted us to think about it I hope. Fallout has a lot to say too, and a lot of it is philosophical and clearly political as factions take on different ideologies inspired from real life. When I say something is political I don't mean it relates to the current politics of America, I just mean it relates to societal issues and conditions as a whole. which Blade Runner definitely does, or at least many interpret it that way. The fact that you know who wrote the original blade runner and what the author meant by it is exactly what I want, I want people to care about writing and themes, not just about fun and mere escapism all the time.

    I liked how fallout new Vegas gave us the option to join the brotherhood and Cesar legion but I think more can be done.
    I do think having traditional values are important but besides being evil you don’t get to see those who are critical of progressive values depicted in media in a good light.
    Like the Bos have a legitimate concern with technology and mutants
    But even in a “non political game” those that are a stand in as conservatives are depicted as evil. As conservative player you have to participate in charcuterie of your beliefs often

    More like the problem is with the effort
    Instead of actually diving into such politics in deep manner, its usually just a hastily thrown together idea to sell it as a deep thing
    Thats the problem, Don't Make _____ Political is not what they actually mean, simply either you work out a very detailed and critical idea, or you work by a checklist...
    And the problem is that lately media is very low effort when it comes to that.
    It wants to touch a wider audience so that means dumbifying things and not giving enough time to develop, and trying to be deep and thoughtful at the same time?
    Yeah thats the disaster, thats the bad taste that you get after watching something like that.
    Its evil ideas vs good ideas, it doesnt want to touch or even mention an idea that can be understood as reasonable from both sides, yet they cannot agree.
    Why? Too much effort, and wider audience gets thrown off.
    When it comes to content, either make art, or do public service.
    Most profit orianteed companies go for the latter.

    fallout is not political. What makes fallout a political game is the bias of political players whom can find politics even in Tetris. Killing Mr. House gives you Bad Karma

      @@elwholerdawg, vault-tec is a corporation that does evil things for profit... that’s a bit political, isn’t it?
      In fallout, you’re literally choosing between factions, and sure that might apply to modern politics, but even stuff like “NCR vs. Legion” has inherent political weight as the NCR is a democratic republic and the legion is a fascist Rome-wannabe.
      I get that not everything in fallout is political, but you can’t look at the series and say there’s nothing inherently political in it.

      @@Clarkamadorian sure. but the thing here is that most, if not every political biased player and content creators tend to ignore completely what the narrator claims. In order to coneive Fallout as a political franchise, you need to ingore the narrator. They just pick the "war... war never changes" thing and that's it haha. Bethesda is pleased by political players anyways, just like McDonalds.
