Very similar to hwy 128 from Silverado Trail in Napa to hwy 505 in Vacaville near Lake Berryessa in N. California. A lot of switchbacks and up and down mountain road. Gotta stay focused and still have fun.
I have been tempted by this bike with the DCT option for a while but like you, I prefer to decide which gear to use on the twisty roads. Do you find the changes to be smooth, it looks it, but does it feel it too?
@robtheorc9046 oh yeah it's very smooth at speed. There is a learning curve at lower speeds because there is no clutch. It will feel jerky at lower speeds. Changing to Rain mode helps somewhat with that.
I sold my bike in years 1999 (Gold Wing GF 1500) it's already 23 years ago. And now I decided to get another one and should be model 2023. I prefer Dark Blue & I guess don't have except years 2019. All the Way I ride big Bike and always like cornering. But not Gold Wing. I see (this) you tube & not really pay attention & think should be man. Till the end she is a Lady. Truly Fantastic, my lady. Even I'm riding so long but cannot get your skill
Thank you for your kind words. Riding is fun for everyone, men and women. As for your bike, I think the 2022 Goldwing has a dark blue color option on the non-touring model. Then there is a brighter blue option on the tour model. They both look great! Whatever color/model you get, I hope you love your new bike.

Wow. Thank you so much for filming that ride. Not something I’m likely to do given that I’m a long way away in England. It has a bit of an Isle of Man feel to the road. I was looking at the speedo thinking “its not as fast as it looks…” when I sat back and it dawned on me that if I’d been riding those bends on my 2007 Electra Glide I’d probably have dragged a load of undercarriage and badly frightened myself in the first mile. Your progression seems to mirror mine. I started out in California in '85. Left California in December of '86 and rode home on a Yamaha XJ750. 2,600 miles in four days! Been on two wheels off and on ever since. Ride safely. Ride smart. See you out there....
Well driven. Shows it doesn't take (literal) balls to bite a dragon in the tail. Subscribed too, by the way, just because you drive a Goldwing DCT and you pour your endeavours into enjoyable content. Cheerio lass. Warm greetings from Belgium.
I just bought a used 2006 Nomad 1600. I wanted a HD Electraglide or a Honda Goldwing, but wasn't confident enough to test ride either of them. I'm ready for the test drives now, but you may have just saved me the time trying both of them out. I just can't picture an Electraglide doing this. I'm pretty sure it'll be a Goldwing now. Great ride, and if my wife will go (which is why I chose those two bikes), we'll ride the "tail" together...but not that fast.
Thank you! I haven't taken an Electraglide out there, but I did take a Street Glide once. The Goldwing DCT is more maneuverable and sporty. I really enjoyed it! Wishing you the best.
Thank you! I hope you enjoyed your ride there. The road is challenging, and the traffic requires intense vigilance. It's a fun time but can be stressful
Was at VAMM22 this year and rode the BOTD!!! It was a blast, but I wanted to go to the General Store and see the Tree of Shame! Your GW sounds good! DCT?!
While the dragon is a good ride, the best riding can be found in NW Arkansas. Roads like the dragon are everywhere. With your riding skill you would’ve have a blast because it’s sparsely populated and you will have the twisties all to yourself.
She's doing a good job but 2nd gear definately appears to be deploying a mimi parachute on the decel. Something has to slow down all that weight i guess....
I am impressed you did that in Sport mode. When I rode the dragon on my DCT Wing, I probably did it in Econ. Going back in a couple weeks and you have inspired me. My only concern is that I have the Hawkseye Blue which we all CLEARLY understand is the fastest Wing made… right?
Thank you! I hope you guys enjoy your trip. I think for general TOD tips, the best advice is to go on a weekday in the morning to avoid traffic. Be very alert of other drivers. Sometimes they cross the yellow line in blind curves. There are places where the road is torn up a bit, and that might affect the path you take through your curve, so watch your speed when entering a curve. Riding UP the TOD is easier (to me) than riding back downhill. If you want photos, photographers set up around 8 or 9:00am and leave at around 5pm. You can visit their websites to buy photos of you on your ride. As for the DCT, just "ride your ride". If you're accustomed to riding in Automatic Touring mode, then I really suggest riding the TOD in that same mode. If your normal riding uses Sport mode, beware that it's jumpy in the lower gears, and simply hitting a rock or a pot hole can launch your bike out from under you (and the road is TORN UP in a few places). With the absence of a clutch, you can feather your rear brake while downshifting and applying throttle to help you get through sharp curves. It's definitely a challenge -- I think it's a lot of fun. I hope you and your friend enjoy your time there and stay safe.
@@thereshegoes757 Thank you very much for the tips. I've been riding sport bikes for most of my riding life so I really enjoy sport mode on the Goldwing. We will be down that way for 2 weeks exploring.
Hi, this was filmed using a GoPro Max 360 camera. A 360 camera films in a spherical format and catches EVERYTHING in all directions. I used GoPro software to "point" the camera after the footage was captured. Here's a cool video that shows how the editing process works: th-cam.com/video/gy5zClAirQU/w-d-xo.html
@@thereshegoes757 : I'm gonna pass thru there this summer on a round trip from Tacoma, WA. to Key West and back. Been thru before, but not on the G-Dub!
Great video. Just sold my BMW 1250GS (too tall) and looking for a GW. Still trying to decide between the Tour and the Standard variant. Tending towards the Standard because I don’t need to carry sofa with me on the back. Why did you choose the Standard vs the Tour? Is the smaller windshield much of a detriment?
I chose the standard because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold up the bike if it's much heavier. I'm only 5'3" and I tippytoe this Goldwing. BUT if I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten the Tour model with the trunk. It's not that much heavier, and the trunk would be very useful.
@@thereshegoes757 OK… I ended up with the Tour model. And very happy with it. Only a couple of weird things with it being delivered in Australia… (1) No GPS and thus no Nav function. Odd, very odd. (2) Unable to change units of pressure. Even odder. It has the air bag option. Can’t say I’m happy with it. I’d rather have that storage compartment back. Maybe I’ll have a different opinion should I end up torpedoing a car. But all in all, a great bike and so so easy to ride and park. Reverse gear is to die for!
@@nielsf2743 that's a very bizarre GPS & unit issue. Have you checked out a good discussion forum for it? I really like this one here. It's an active board with lots of helpful people: www.gl1800riders.com/forums/2018-newer-goldwing-board.193/
AWESOME riding, I have only been riding a year, Rebel 1100 DCT, love it, eventually looking at the GW DCT for longer rides I am a bit worried about the weight of the bike compared to my stature, 65" tall 29" inseam. Everyone says the bike is manageable just wondering what your experience has been with the GW? Thanks
I'm 5'3" with 29" inseam. I tippy-toe this bike, it's 800 lbs, and that puts a lot of pressure on my ankles when I need to move/park it. I'd suggest going to a dealership & sitting on one to see what you think. Good sturdy boots with thick insoles can help support your feet & ankles. And if you check out a Goldwing forum, you'll hear about ways other folks have lowered their bikes and shaved their seats so they can reach the ground better. I like this forum here: www.gl1800riders.com/forums/2018-up-goldwing-board.193/
@@thereshegoes757 Thanks for the information!! What techniques do you use for slow turns, slow speed maneuvers with the DCT? I'm working on using the rear brake, but it takes a lot of feness, I need a lot more practice.
@@leafinley6361 hey, yeah the slow speed maneuvers on a DCT take a lot of practice. I learned how to do them on a typical bike with a clutch, so suddenly not having a clutch was a challenge. I have to keep throttle pushing power to the rear wheel, and apply gentle rear brake to create a "friction zone" similar to a clutch. It still just takes a lot of practice. Turn my head, look where I want to go, and try to get there. There's a video series called Ride Like a Pro (and a TH-cam channel too), and they give really good tips.
Very nice riding, great sound and video quality. The upshift seem to be buttery smooth but can hear a little mechanical clunk when downshifting but you were scooting pretty good. Did you feel any of that when it downshift as you were in a corner?
Thanks, yeah the downshifting can sound a little clunky if you're going too fast for that gear. On a manual bike, I would release the clutch slower for a smoother transition. On the DCT, there seems to be a dampening effect if you apply the rear brake along with downshifting. It's almost like a special kind of "friction zone" -- you would use it also when doing tight u-turns since there's no clutch.
You're right... the first steep turn... and it's definitely on level ground, come help me straighten up!!! I've heard the DCT riders several times, oh, oh, that hurts here in Europe!!! 🤣
Yeah I rode this in Automatic Sport mode last year. It made me realize that automatic is not useful in dynamic situations. It doesn't know that there's a curve coming up and it needs to downshift, or that I'm coming out of one curve and into a second one, and don't want to upshift yet. So I spent the whole ride manually correcting the Automatic mode. Automatic is great for traffic jams and simple rides, though.
I’m always impressed with riders who can make big bikes go fast. I think the capabilities of the bikes is way over rated and definitely oversold. Sport bikes are great but very few riders can ride them. FJRs and Wings are mostly people who can ride them, IMO
@@thereshegoes757 me for one, learn everyday. I take my bikes to the track when ever I get a chance. This have gained me some skills that would be difficult to get on public roads. I have been on the dragon many times, and planning to head south also this summer or early fall before the leaves start to collect onto the roads. The cherohala skyway is one of my favorite rides.
@@norseman5041 I'd also like to do that as well. Never been on a track. And I've heard the Cherahola Skyway is beautiful. I hope you have a great time!
I think that if I'd ridden that ... it would have been a 2nd gear pull all the way thru,.... 20 mph to 45 mph..... no sense in shifting if the speeds you were showing are a demographic to all bikes
Interesting thought. I think on a Goldwing, 45mph in 2nd gear has some awfully high RPMs. 3rd gear gives it a faster boost to get up to 45. But I guess it depends on the bike, and rider's preference. Good luck to you, I hope you can get out there and try it. Let me know how you like it.

@@olmanzomby7718 I'd love to ride BOTD someday. I'll need to save up some vacation days!
@@thereshegoes757 Hope to see you at VAMM23....AND Save those vacation days or sick days to use!!! Haha
You are a great rider!
Thank you! Every time I ride, I try to get a little better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video way more than I expected 👍😁
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid I love the Non touring goldwings aka bagger.
Thank you! It's a great bike.
Super smooth rider! 👌
Thank you! It is a fun ride.
I’ve ridden the Tail on more bikes than I can remember. Never an automatic. That looked great. You may have sold me on a Goldwing.
Thank you! Yes it's a lot of fun on the automatic, I'm really enjoying this bike. Good luck to you!
Nice ride. Thanks for a great video 👍👍👍
Thank you!
While the dragon is a good ride, the best riding can be found in NW Arkansas. Roads like the dragon are everywhere. With your riding skill you would’ve have a blast because it’s sparsely populated and you will have the twisties all to yourself.
Thanks! The TOD gets awfully crowded since it's so popular. I've heard about nice roads in AR, but I've never been there. I'd love to see it someday.
You also don't have to worry about Max Wrist crashing into you.
@@thedragon1322 yuuup. I've heard about that guy. I'm all for improving my skills and pushing myself, but not at the risk of harming others.
Fun place rode this a few times. There even better riding roads nearby w/out all the idiots. Nice riding too. Nothing like a wing
Thank you! Yes it's a fun area out there, definitely need to watch out for the idiots though. Enjoy!

Howdy from NC!
She's doing a good job but 2nd gear definately appears to be deploying a mimi parachute on the decel. Something has to slow down all that weight i guess....
Yeah 2nd in sport mode is a super tight gear. In Touring or Eco -- it's much more gentle.
Great ride awesome bike
Thank you!
Nice riding!
Thank you!
Very entertaining, thank you!
Thank you!
Slow it down. It's a pretty ride and there's no rush.
What day of the week was that ? I like the fact that no crock rocket wasn't trying to give you an enigma.
Hi, that was on a Monday morning. I rode in from 5 hours away and arrived at around 10:30.
@thereshegoes757 Thank you, ma'am. I figured that a weekday would be the best time to ride it.
Thank you! And good luck to you on your upcoming ride. That Hawkseye Blue will surely breeze through in a hurry!
Great Video! Thanks for sharing! My friend and I are heading down for the last 2 weeks in June. We have 2022 DTC's any tips?
Bonjour et bravo pour votre conduite 👍👍✌✌👏👏
Merci beaucoups!
That was really a fast run! Nice!
Thanks!
Great ride!

Great job 😉
Thank you!
You handle it real good 👍🏾
Thank you!
At the end, with both hands on the handlebars, how are you controlling the rotation of the gopro camera?
Hi, this was filmed using a GoPro Max 360 camera. A 360 camera films in a spherical format and catches EVERYTHING in all directions. I used GoPro software to "point" the camera after the footage was captured. Here's a cool video that shows how the editing process works: th-cam.com/video/gy5zClAirQU/w-d-xo.html
Work it girl! I was shocked there wasn't much traffic too. What time of day were you there....Oh, there it is, 10 in the morn. Gotta remember that.
This was 10am on a Monday. By the time I got back down to Deals Gap, it was crowded. So I'd recommend 10am at the latest.
@@thereshegoes757 : I'm gonna pass thru there this summer on a round trip from Tacoma, WA. to Key West and back. Been thru before, but not on the G-Dub!
@@migueljonz3901 that's awesome! I hope you have a safe trip and a great time
Great video.
Get the tour, remove the topbox if needed. The standard is too poor equippet in my opinion
Agreed, I wish I had gotten the Tour model.
Well done.
Thank you!
Great video cutie! Be careful
great video
Thank you!
For roads like this the GW should have had an mode that is between tour and sport mode, especially if you want to ride a bit fast
Yes I agree. Tour mode is a bit tame, while Sport mode feels a bit like a rocket. There should be a happy medium in between.
Nice Job
Thank you!
Awesome riding!
Thank you!
I did the tail of the dragon 10 times in one day. And boy was I dizzy afterwards.
I'm jealous. I'm getting me one too soon.
Good luck, I hope you love it!
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Done the Tail sooooo many times! probably over 20. Have you tried “The Snake” ? That one is phenomenal and even more challenging
Yes it's been a few years, but I've been out to The Snake at Hwy 421 and enjoyed that as well. It's also a fun ride
SKILLS !!!
Thank you!
@@thereshegoes757 I watch those vids, just have to keep working on it.
You keep posting I'll keep liking🤗
@@thereshegoes757
Well said.
Very nice run. Are you using or have you ever tried the foot shifter for the DCT?
Thank you! I have a foot shifter, but don't use it unless my left hand is adjusting other controls. On this run, I mostly used the paddle shifters

Sorry, thats a joke for Alpen-Driving in europe - try the stelvio-pass there.
You're right... the first steep turn... and it's definitely on level ground, come help me straighten up!!! I've heard the DCT riders several times, oh, oh, that hurts here in Europe!!! 🤣
Great Ride, Great Video. Next time try auto in sport. You'll be surprised.
#CruiseControlOn
I’m always impressed with riders who can make big bikes go fast. I think the capabilities of the bikes is way over rated and definitely oversold. Sport bikes are great but very few riders can ride them. FJRs and Wings are mostly people who can ride them, IMO
My experience is MOST people on bikes are really not skilled regardless of what bike they are on.
Thank you! I definitely enjoy the wing. I've never tried a sport bike or an FJR, but I think it would be fun to try one someday.
I think we all learn as we go. Good luck to you!
Stay off da dragon wid dat 2 wheeled car.....
She did a great job, but the tail is overrated. Blue Ridge Parkway , Twisted sister , Hells canyon tail is just more popular
Thanks, yeah the popularity of the Tail of the Dragon has made it overcrowded. It's no fun with traffic. I lucked out here on a weekday morning.
