I think that she was writing music in a happier tone to make herself happier. Orange trees sounds lyrically like someone who’s on there last straw at work and they need a god damn vacation before the quit lol
Love + fear is my top three marina albums I relate to the struggles she faced in the songs it’s hard to get love back in relationships and get taken for granted but then you finally cut out the toxic people in your life
I think she was super raw in this album, a bit of a departure from marina and the diamonds and the start of her becoming her own as an artist. It was also a nice intro to ADIAML. By far my favorite album by marina.
I got say, I loved and defended this album when it first came out, but I grew out of it pretty quickly too. Although I think it was a important process to Marina, I do think that it's her weakest project as well. But she's a amazing artist so it's a very solid piece of art anyway with some amazing tracks. OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS REACTION!!!! I think personally I can’t pick a favorite project by Marina because it always changes based on my mood/ where I am mentally in life but one thing for sure about this album that it’s better to listen to it while driving around or when you’re on a road trip. I always put a couple of songs from it on my driving playlist especially too afraid, handmade heaven, superstar, no more suckers, you and karma. Loved your reaction and thoughts 💕
Great reaction 👏 I think this album really gets a bad wrap as the album may have had some Marina reflection post release, but I think the albums were true to her at the time - hindsight changes a lot of things! L+F deserves a better reputation! This is probably the album I revisit the most (excluding ADIAML as a recent release) and I’ve been on the Marina train since Oh No came out as a single. I actually listen to Fear and then Love with this album. Baby has a really great video so would recommend checking that out :)
Believe in Love is my fav song on this album. And one of my most played Marina songs. I love all her albums except the first one. Shampain I do have on repeat though. The early 2010’s were dominated by female pop. Katy Perry, Lana, Robyn….and the dark horse Electra Heart….

This album is good, you just have to sit down and listen to it carefully (and at least more than once for it to grow). Personally, I like 13 of the 16 tracks, but I consider only 5 to be my favorite. I will say that some of her unreleased tracks for this era deserved to be on the album, and some songs on the album should’ve been the unreleased.

Soft to be strong, Too afraid and End of the world are my favourite tracks. I always consider Soft to be strong “hurt me long ago” as a post-EH reflection Ironically I think Love is stronger but chose 2 from Fear
Agreed with you on this, I think because marina has set such high standards with her work if it’s different, not all fans are going to like it! I’m also going to try listening fear then love…

I feel the opposite! I wasn't very impressed at frist but a lot of the songs have grown on me (never disliked it though)
