      JohnnyQ90 it looked like the screws might have not been long enough. Even though you had "some" thread engagement it might strip if you don't have "enough" thread engagement. There is quite a bit of pressure inside the cylinder. Also you can over cool those engines. That will not hurt them, they just won't run right.

      JohnnyQ90 not a supercharger! I'm talking an actual miniature exhaust driven turbocharger, I have never seen it done!

    • @henria.277
      @henria.277 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bailey's Garage 2 strokes actually supercharge themselves on their 'powerband', so sticking a turbo or supercharger will just restrict the airflow and it will run like shit.

    • @BaileyEvans

    Next you should build a nitro-powered generator.
    One way to do it would be to use the nitro engine to spin a brushless motor. Feed the motor's electrical output into a 3-phase rectifier to make it DC. Put a big high-voltage capacitor in parallel with the rectifier output for smoothing. Feed the rectifier output into a buck-boost DC-DC converter to get a constant 12V DC output. Finally feed that 12VDC into an inverter to get 240VAC, and as a demonstration use it to run some of your power tools, or a heat gun, or a heater, or a string of light bulbs. If you're interested, I can help with the electrical side.

    Just wanted to mention, a 4,5cc nitro engine doesn't have 3hp. Maximum is around 1,5hp. I've been looking up actual dyno charts, since I didn't trust the numbers by the manufacturer.

  • @poisonouspython1410
    @poisonouspython1410 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Very cool build and machining skill. Pump volute and impeller design needs a lot of work. The rest of the build is top notch, but that pump was really holding the engine back in terms of output. Your nominal pump output was wayyyyyy less than the energy input supplied by the motor.

    • @tellucas
      @tellucas 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed new pump design maybe a reduction gear since I'm not aware of water pumps that can operate at the max speed of a small nitro engine (excess impeller cavitation could be issue at high speed)

    • @jhendren0001
      @jhendren0001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hene193 this type of model nitro engine gets most of its cooling from high air flow but since this one is mounted on a base and running under load that small water cooler won't be enough for a long period of time.. Plus it looks to hot out side in the video I could be wrong lol

    • @oli13a
      @oli13a 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cooling water return pipe would've been better off piped into the pump suction rather than back into the high pressure side of the pump. I doubt there is much, if any, pressure differential there to achieve a decent flow of water through the cooling system. Ace wee rig though. Leagues above anything I could ever make

    • @patricksawyer9779
      @patricksawyer9779 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      he's actually sing the lower pressure of the water leaving the pump housing to pull water through the cooling system. Not the most effective method, sure, but it does help with the heating. You're absolutely right, though: The return line should be on the intake line to improve the pressure differential.

    • @midship_nc
      @midship_nc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      oli13a you're right, the impeller is pretty basic too. I doubt the vanes are close enough to the cutwater, plus it's a open impeller. He could design his own with a closed impeller and a proper volute casing and probably drain that bucket in a few seconds.

      There are lots of centrifugal pumps out there with straight fins on their impellers too, so even though it affects efficiency, the design is not super critical for an experimental application like this.

      they need to be at a diagonal so its more efficient like this www.berkeleyjet.com/images/Product/large/150-L-05021.jpg there is a lot to improve on it

      i imagine if you routed the exhaust out a near by window with some hose after the muffler, it wouldn't be overbearingly loud lol. still not practical on fuel costs but hey it'd be wild

    • @jockemoll
      @jockemoll 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      would be cool. But would not increase the efficiency compared to a regular electric pump. Moving water faster is not the issue, getting the heat of the chip in to the water is the issue.

    Never saw before metal could seem like butter!!! Lol.
    The talent of this man is inspiring. The brain behind each move is just phenomenal. This is almost nietzschean, the beauty of the man in action expressing himself though his art
    Seriously, you passion, knowledge and commitment is inspiring. It makes me want to learn and be the best at it. Next, how to make a computer at home with a piece of metal. You should build futuristic cars full size!
    Thanks, really.

    Why nitro? Why not something like a 4 stroke trimmer motor. Gasoline is a lot cheaper than nitro.

      Power density and simplicity. Nitro motors are very compact for the power that they produce, which is beneficial in these situations.
