You’re really good at this, very natural. Mu only criticism the voice over sound quality is iffy to my, kinda boomy and and weirdly compressed. Perhaps a better mic will resolve it
A C7 is a Corvette, not the C8. And that's why the new C8 should have a new name but not butcher the Corvette name by calling the C8 a Corvette as it's a midengine and not a front-mid engine. The current C7 has practical storage for trips to Costco and can hold many bags for long trips, unlike most midengine cars.
@Ariel: Yes, GM's been making concepts of Corvette as a midengine but I don't feel that it's the same lineage, so the C8 is NOT a Corvette. See this video by dudeinblue and he can explain it better than me that THE NAME is the problem: th-cam.com/video/gNuUzUoeNec/w-d-xo.html Porsche understands lineage: the 911 rearengine came out first, then the midengine came out BUT Porsche did not call the newer midengine a 911 but instead gave it a new name: Cayman. Had Porsche called its new midengine 911, is it a 911?
You always hear this when there are model changes and it NEVER holds true. Most will jump on board and embrace the new models once the media starts gushing over it. But I hear you, the C7 is a sweet machine, and I hope to have one in a few years. The ZR1's are already starting to take a huge hit in price and I think it will get worse, but I have a feeling that the ZR1 price will rebound and be a favorite among collectors in the future.
@ T U: You write: "Long live the Manual". I ask you: "Why"? The automatic in the ZR1 needs 2,9 secs from 0-60, the manual 3,2 sec. ... Furthermore, all racing cars are equipped with paddle shifters and two pedals since many years. In Formula 1 the last car with a manual started in 1994 (!). Imagine Louis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel in a F1-car with a manual ... just ridicolous. McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari and even Porsche do not build any more sportscars with manuals. So, except the so called "fun" to drive a manual and to travail with three pedals but only two feet and the chance to chose by mistake the wrong gear in a street racing fight, tell me please, what is so exciting about manuals?
@ Brian Makse: I want to change gears manually by myself too, but only with paddle shifters. It's much quicker than a puristic manual stick and three pedals. All modern cars in IMSA, Formula 1 and even rallye cars have only two pedals. If puristic manuals were better, so why do professionals don't use them any more in their respective racing series?
@@BrianMakse while I was half joking, I'll actually be at LAX tomorrow, might see about renting one to to play with, though LA isn't my ideal playground for, well any car
Thanks, Jerry! Great question. Based on everything I know and a little intuition, I don’t think so. I think Corvette has a whole bunch of intelligent enthusiasts on board and I would wager real money on the C8 having a manual.
With that much power, I get the feeling I'd be frustrated not letting the engine breathe on twisty roads, because the thing is so damn fast! Hit redline one time and you are most likely WAY over the speed limit and get sense the its trying to kill you. heh And yes, thank you for continuing to build the Vette with a manual. It's not like I'd be drag racing people in the first place, but I do love backroad bashing! With the manual it's plenty fast as it is!
That's exactly how I felt much of the time. However, it's easy to drive, assuming you have some skills, and it doesn't want to kill you ever. It's a big pussycat, like I said.
@@BrianMakse Yeah, I have have an SCCA background, but it's been a couple of years since my last event. These days it's mostly autocross stuff. One of my favorites was back in ~1983 when I had a brand new Mustang GT and ran F-prepared. I modified the engine -- cam, heads, intake, carb, gutted the pollution control crap and swapped out the TRX wheel/tire combo for Enkei wire mesh wheels with Pirelli P7s. That race was in Joplin Missouri where they closed off the downtown streets for the race. This wasn't your typical parking lot autocross. Loved it! Edit: Btw, thanks for the great video! /subscribed
Great review Brian! Fantastic car! However I listened to a very good friend & purchased a new Grand Sport. This fills all my needs, and is the best Vette I have been lucky to own.
Would love to see the new zr1 without the wing. Wing or not still stunning. I feel like the c7 is finally sitting right, near as good looking as the last zr1 (one of my fav cars)
A fantastic car and I hope that the few people who buy one will get them on a track. Like with so many high-powered cars you get bragging rights on the street but at some point it is just overkill unless you live near the Autobahn. A regular base C7 is already pretty amazing, and the ZR1 is the ultimate version. To put things in perspective, the C6 ZR1 sold 4,684 copies in five years. so you probably won't be seeing a whole lot of these either. But credit to Chevrolet for building a 755 hp car that you can use for normal driving with no issues--and which, adjusted for inflation, is actually cheaper than the 2009-13 ZR1 although it has 117 hp more, a better interior, and you can take the top off.
Yeah dude, that was a good review. Also, this ZR1 recently became a bigger deal in my book because it doesn't have AFM. The Stingray/GS/ZO6 all do, but not this guy. Interesting. It will be a collector's item.
This may be a dumb question, but seeing this Corvette is already at a 50-50 weight distribution, why not an all-wheel drive version while maintaining the current front engine aspect instead of mid-ship?
@@BrianMakse Hmmm, so an all-wheel drive vehicle doesn't have better traction and therefore acceleration than a rear wheel drive? OK. Not a good reason.
Not practical with the C7 architecture. No room for all the necessary crap - plus it would increase the weight by at least 200 lbs. Who wants a 4000 lb Corvette? It's getting perilously close to that already...
@@mericcumin5679 Not practical makes sense, I suppose. Of course, it would have been done by now if it 'was' practical. Yes? Others seem to have made it work and the C-8 is likely even more 'impractical engineering-wise than an all wheel drive C-7. Weight could be made up by using a smaller, more efficient engine size. But then we loss the torque advantage the 'vette' enjoys. A concept model would be interesting to see. It was just a thought, though.
Not a chance. It has few vices and inexperienced drivers can easily get in over their heads. If a driver can put their ego aside with a learning-oriented approach, then perhaps the ZR1 can be a teaching tool.
You have to work really hard to make a Civic go fast. It’s nothing to make a ZR1 hit triple digits and/or load it up with big Gs in the corners. Long story short, what happens is inexperienced drivers snap the throttle closed, then spin and crash.
Cool piece of engineering. I just think this market doesn't know what its doing. The whole point is to get specs on paper that are mind-blowing, but completely unrealizable to all but the most elite drivers in controlled settings. And its all at the cost of insane complexity and therefore cost of ownership, loss of spirit, etc. Owners will be excited to talk about all of the features this car has, but they will be memorizing bullet points from the pamphlet, not enjoying the car itself. Let's be honest, the guys who will buy this car have never pulled half a G without shitting their pants. People who actually enjoy driving prefer things like hydraulic power steering, mechanical LSD's, minimally-invasive traction control, and don't get me started on auto-rev-matching which people should be embarrassed about.

It needs to be said. Cheers.
Save the manuals....yessss....my 2014 Z28 is here to stay....maybe one day I'll afford this monster ZR1..😄😄
Your z28 is a legend! Get your #savethemanuals swag in our store!
Imagine Pantera's Vulgar Display of power on the radio while driving this... That's fitting.
Haha yeah 🤘🏻🥁
I got to have it!!!
Great review!! I think if i had the cash id just get a grand sport trim and call it good.
That’s not a bad way to go, at less than half the price of this one. The GS is brill.
Thank God for the Corvette
So happy this review was with a manual.
Yeah, me too.
A C7 is a Corvette, not the C8.
And that's why the new C8 should have a new name but not butcher the Corvette name
by calling the C8 a Corvette as it's a midengine and not a front-mid engine. The current C7 has practical
storage for trips to Costco and can hold many bags for long trips, unlike most midengine cars.
You should know as a Corvette fan, they've been trying to make a mid engine Corvette for decades now. So yes, the C8 will still be a Corvette.
@Ariel: Yes, GM's been making concepts of Corvette as a midengine but I don't feel that it's the same lineage, so the C8 is NOT a Corvette. See this video by dudeinblue and he can explain it better than me that THE NAME is the problem: th-cam.com/video/gNuUzUoeNec/w-d-xo.html
Porsche understands lineage: the 911 rearengine came out first, then the midengine came out BUT Porsche did not call the newer midengine a 911 but instead gave it a new name: Cayman.
Corvette
It will be called a Corvette im sure..but maybe a Corvette Zora.
Those downshifts sound awesome.
Glad you enjoyed.
Long live the Manual
That’s right.
Helmuth Meier for the Love of Mercy Shut the fuck up
@ Brian Makse: I want to change gears manually by myself too, but only with paddle shifters. It's much quicker than a puristic manual stick and three pedals. All modern cars in IMSA, Formula 1 and even rallye cars have only two pedals. If puristic manuals were better, so why do professionals don't use them any more in their respective racing series?

As for me, I'll go with the auto.
Love the rolling shots on Angeles Crest! Good job. 👍
Not Angeles Crest!
I have to drive it I now have it at the top of my bucket list I hope I get to drive one or at least ride in one
what's amazing to me is it sounds like the 60's corvette road racers
It sounds even better.
AWESOME car! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
With the exception of the music and sound effects a very good video.
What sound effects?
Awesome review Brian , thanks ! PS. Finally I got my Camaro 3.6L RS ;-)
Who cares!
Those who have not and will never ever have one ? ;-)
Manuals are fun weekend cars.
But are an absolute pain in stop & go traffic.
Try driving this in LA traffic for a week...
@@BrianMakse challenge accepted, where may I pick up the car?
@@AndrewB383Chevrolet had me pick this one up at LAX. Give them a call!
@@BrianMakse while I was half joking, I'll actually be at LAX tomorrow, might see about renting one to to play with, though LA isn't my ideal playground for, well any car
@@AndrewB383 if you watched the vid, you can see there's no shortage of great roads in southern California.
Hi Brian. Thanks so much for sharing another great video. It might be the last manual Corvette, is it right?
Thanks, Jerry! Great question. Based on everything I know and a little intuition, I don’t think so. I think Corvette has a whole bunch of intelligent enthusiasts on board and I would wager real money on the C8 having a manual.
Hi Brian, I am so glad to hear that. It's great to talk to you again. @@BrianMakse
nice coverage..my 19 manuel...z06 has plenty of stoc h. powers!!!!...if i ownned this car..unless traking it..THAT HUGE WING...WOOD -GO!!!!...LOL
Good review.Great car. I know the necessity, but the ironing board sucks.
Thanks, but don't tell me, tell your friends.
I'd go with the low wing and deal with any high speed oversteer on the track. It's a road car after all.
Agreed, Brian Makse..
With that much power, I get the feeling I'd be frustrated not letting the engine breathe on twisty roads, because the thing is so damn fast! Hit redline one time and you are most likely WAY over the speed limit and get sense the its trying to kill you. heh
And yes, thank you for continuing to build the Vette with a manual.
Loved it!

The Grand Sport is my muse I just love it. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't turn down a ZR1 either.
These nothing wrong with a GS.
Kudos to your camera skills! #SaveTheManual
Thanks. It's all the mad skills I learned from Nick.
Every young American male's dream car.. Growing up, a vett was that car.
One correction lifting the hatch from the back does not jam your thumb! I just got my ZR1 there is enough room for your fingers.
You must have small fingers.
Yeah your right
Geez, it’s amazing what qualifies as a reasonable price point these days. $140K isn’t chump change.
In context of its capabilities, it’s a bargain.
Great review Brian! Fantastic car! However I listened to a very good friend & purchased a new Grand Sport. This fills all my needs, and is the best Vette I have been lucky to own.
There’s a 98% chance I’d have given you the same guidance!
WHAT-A I THINK? IT'S FUCKING SICK!!!
Would love to see the new zr1 without the wing. Wing or not still stunning. I feel like the c7 is finally sitting right, near as good looking as the last zr1 (one of my fav cars)
They're available and I've seen them. Looks better, but this is functional, particularly if you drive it on any circuits with high corner speeds.
Very beautiful car ever...😍😍😍
Those shifts looked like long throws 😧....I want one so bad
Longer than an MX-5 perhaps, but still short.
Great video as always.
Agreed on everything except the top off part. Terrible wind noise above 50mph.
Yeah dude, that was a good review. Also, this ZR1 recently became a bigger deal in my book because it doesn't have AFM. The Stingray/GS/ZO6 all do, but not this guy. Interesting. It will be a collector's item.
This is already a collector's item as you can see by current valuations.
This may be a dumb question, but seeing this Corvette is already at a 50-50 weight distribution, why not an all-wheel drive version while maintaining the current front engine aspect instead of mid-ship?
There's not a single good reason for that.
@@nwtruckerll that's not the point of a Corvette.
The road at the 1:45 minute mark.... Looks like the same road that M3 went off the cliff.
What M3?
th-cam.com/video/az_Vlgy5dbM/w-d-xo.html
This car makes you a better driver because it teaches you to respect its power
Not a chance. It has few vices and inexperienced drivers can easily get in over their heads. If a driver can put their ego aside with a learning-oriented approach, then perhaps the ZR1 can be a teaching tool.
@@BrianMakse everyone getting all excited about the Corvette being turned into a counterfeit Ferrari but don't get that it's not like driving a Civic
You have to work really hard to make a Civic go fast. It’s nothing to make a ZR1 hit triple digits and/or load it up with big Gs in the corners. Long story short, what happens is inexperienced drivers snap the throttle closed, then spin and crash.
@@BrianMakse i meant that a Civic...anybody can drive it. A Corvette will bite you hard if you get careless
