“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
Your comment is extremely apt given that the Duke was obsessed with her & pursued Gladys relentlessly before she agreed to marry him, she was hesitant because she knew he was a womaniser & being somewhat of a bohemian for that day, liked her freedom, knowing that to marry into such a family would curtail her restless nature & she would have to feign a 'grace under pressure' attitude. It says in the video that she had many dogs & that they defecated all over the expensive furnishings after he left, in fact, in a Churchill biography, it elaborates that guests were no longer visiting for dinner because not only was she unstable & paranoid at times, the copius number of animals were a cause of tension before he left, they had also come to despair on taking sides in their many arguments. In the end, he regretted marrying her because he thought she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen, obviously learned a valuable lesson that beauty isn't everything.
I think it is lovely that you paid her such a tribute at the end by reminding us to remember her for the enigmatic person she was, not for the beauty treatment mishap. Well done, I believe.
I could fall asleep with the sound of your voice, but I stay awake because what you read is so very interesting. Yes, I'd rather you research and tell the lives of these people. Thank you and do stay safe😷🙏❤️
Im jealous: Imagine being born into wealth, and naturally beautiful, oh and both street and book smart? with the confidence to speak to kings and powerful men, not one ounce of insecurities, and to literally be so strikingly beautiful that men freeze in their tracks. Talk about luck-and good genes.
How about the young men and women in Venezuela, who are injecting cement into their bodies, to sculpt 'perfect' features? How would this seem like a good idea to anyone?
I'm a licensed Esthetician and I wouldn't put Botox anywhere in my body for a billion dollars. I know many other Estheticians who say the same. Worse, I've met MANY Dermatologists who say the same! Botox is a POISON. Doctors do not yet know what the long-term consequences of alot of these beauty injections are going to be. Long-term drama aside, just look up some of the "Botox gone wrong" side effects than can, and DO happen. And if that doesn't scare you off, feel free to roll the dice in the name of a frozen face. But, Dermatologists will give it to patients like candy because it's a HUGE money maker.

Vanity destroys the lives of many seemingly beautiful women and men. I don't understand why people are so unhappy with their true beauty, which often lies inside and isn't seen with the naked eye. Ah! All the creams, potions and surgeries in The Universe cannot smooth out or lift up our perceptions of self.....Note: I actually thought the "kink" in her nose was lovely. Thank you for this story, Oddie.
I just adore every video that I've watched so far... but the kind sentiment you spoke of her was just beautiful, I don't know any other way to describe it... just beautiful!!!
"The wax dropped…", just like plumpers/fillers today. So sad that in 100 years nothing has changed. Also sad that people can't except their natural beauty and uniqueness. They pursue these treatments which in fact makes them all look alike - we can all tell who's got those lips and who has "had work". It's tragic that it doesn't make them look unique or special, it makes them look all the same.
Uhhh fillers don’t “drop”. Your body absorbs them as it’s just hyaluronic acid. Can I ask why such harsh criticism of enhancements/plastic surgery? You seem to have very strong opinions about it for some reason. What’s really sad is women dragging other women for no reason. Raise your sisters up ❤️ we’re all in this together whether you like it or not buttercup.
I am so glad I found this channel -- I wish I had found it earlier. Thanks for all that you do, digging up obscure stories and factoids to entertain us. I love the historical features, and I love the exploration videos. And even though it's months away, I can't wait to see what you do for Halloween. I'm sure it'll be fantastic.
I feel I absolutely love the mysterious truthful old storys and the antique photos and sounds fits well and makes it more exciting and the narration is done well keep them coming thanks...
Im a new subscriber here & been binge watching your channel!! Who needs cable tv?? I Absolutely enjoy this channel!! Glad I found it these stories intrigue me & spook me at night ha!. By the way your voice is fitting & lovely!! 👍👍👍
This is my 1st time seeing a silent version, I feel the same, you do have a soothing voice. Maybe you can start producing your own set of soothing sleep stories for horror fanatics? I'd pre-order it! Great job from a new subscriber!
Very well done. Reminds me of the time in the 1970's radio shows we used to listen to which were so terribly powerful. People of the past play a large part to the people of today and tomorrow...so much to learn. Your stories are wonderful and wise!
Silverbush B I like the fact that she preserved && made her childhood dream come TRUE! It shows that she had great determination... What an inspiration!!! ♥️
It's sad that you see this inspiring. She finally married a Duke and refused to be in the same room with him and threatened to kill him in front of party guests. Nothing without God is good and that's what I took from this. Vanity, money loving and lack of moral and God's law
i just found your channel tonight! God, where have you been all my life???! I adore your content and I'm glad you're narrating your videos. You have the voice of a great story teller. I love history, especially macabre history about extraordinary eccentric or straight creepy people. I'm glad to now be a subscriber and I look forward to your future content. No one else is doing what you do the way you do it. Thanks so much!
a Stunningly Beautiful Lady....in mind as well as form....who was treated as trash by her husband...a most tragic story...thank you for your kind and respectful telling of her tragic tale....and for all your work researching her life .

Cassie Robinson I found his voice and the background music so creepy that I had to turn my bedside lamp on after the first minute, the complete opposite of calming. Lol But I did enjoy the piece in the end after I stopped being so freaked out. Maybe the middle of the night was a bad time to watch.
I really enjoy listening to your voice as you present the information in this and other videos. You take time to research and verify facts and assemble them into a very enjoyable and interesting treatise on the topic of your choice. Well done!
I want to thank you greatly for reading these now. I loved your vids when I could focus, but with medication and other illnesses reading has become difficult. So your efforts to read them out make watching them enjoyable again. Thanks so much.♥ much love from Texas.

A lovely video and thanks for the narration. A lovely cultured speaking voice. I look eagerly for your stories. Thankyou for all your hard work n sharing with us.xxxx
Absolutely loved the time you took to tell the story of this beautiful lady. She endured so much in her early tears up. Cannot understand when a person is so gorgeous, they want to change things, they can & do turn out horribly wrong, then they become "shut ins" very sad. Thank you for video, you have a very nice voice. 😛

I like to be doing other things while watching/listening to YT videos, & often the ones that consist of only text, are difficult due to slow reading & eyesight that isn't very good anymore. This format has made your videos a true delight. Thank you so much for all the work you put forth.
Thank you dear heart tree recording these videos with narration. Ever since I came across your channel I have enjoyed every video that I have seen. Well seen is more loose term, I should say every video I have listened to. Learned a lot of new things and enjoyed every minute of it. Please keep up the good work. I just think what makes all these videos great is your smooth and soothing voice and the accents pretty cool too. Anyway, can’t wait for the next one. Everyone take care, take it easy and be safe.

ObsoleteOddity Your so welcome! Then maybe this is your resume, and you have only to send your video samples to some studio networks and some agent offices like William Morris, who knows what could happen, you definitely have a discernable and captive voice, I think it was made for narrating and broadcasting!

The universe is definitely gifted you with a talent for oration, and I swear there are times I'm watching your videos that I think I've heard you narrate things on a favorite Cradle of Filth album that I used to listen to. You have a deep talent, and it's good to see you using it to reach people with knowledge. Thank you so much!
Great job . Very great job . This video is like one of several Television shows I watch late at night .:Poor Miss Deacon . She lived a long life though .Thanks for the heads up . I have another story to place upon my shelf .
It is natural that youth and beauty is captivating to others and sad that it is a gift that can overshadow intelligence and character. This poor woman sought to maintain her hold on the easy power given her and its tragic loss led to a life of self-imposed isolation and denial to the rest of us what seem to have been her many other gifts.
I really can relate to her life story I have something in common with her, the vanity I hate mirrors, I hate looking at myself inspite people see me as an attractive woman in my age of 78 now How I wished and prayed to God the Almighty to restore my youthful health and body Your presentation of her is greatly appreciated

I just adore every video that I've watched so far... but the kind sentiment you spoke of her was just beautiful, I don't know any other way to describe it... just beautiful!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your very kind feedback Amanda, much appreciated :)
TOTALLY!!!!
Vanity! What can u do,the way of the world.
Linda Susan 2686 EXACTLY!!! They all look alike! (The ones that have had work done.)
Linda Susan 2686
And these butt implants, 😂 they look so terrible
I am so glad I found this channel -- I wish I had found it earlier. Thanks for all that you do, digging up obscure stories and factoids to entertain us. I love the historical features, and I love the exploration videos. And even though it's months away, I can't wait to see what you do for Halloween. I'm sure it'll be fantastic.
You have a wonderful soothing voice. Woke up at 3 a.m. and saw it an had to watch it. Time to go back to sleep. Thank you.
I love listening to him as well and I agree with you he has a very soothing voie and now time for bed,, Great video have a peaceful night.
Thank you.
3am? Kinda creepy you woke at that time..it's the "time of the dead" and that's just what she is..dead!
**positive vibes from Detroit,MI**
I feel I absolutely love the mysterious truthful old storys and the antique photos and sounds fits well and makes it more exciting and the narration is done well keep them coming thanks...
Im a new subscriber here & been binge watching your channel!! Who needs cable tv?? I Absolutely enjoy this channel!! Glad I found it these stories intrigue me & spook me at night ha!. By the way your voice is fitting & lovely!! 👍👍👍
Thank you my friend for your very kind feedback! :)
ObsoleteOddity You're very welcome my friend! 😊
Yes, and cable tv is not FREE!!
I got cable tv an I still like to watch those in my room at night but right know I'm listening to this it's amazing.
Agreed
I can't stop watching. Fun to watch on sundays. Thanks for being so communicative. Very considerate of you. I'm loving these videos.
😂 I thought I was losing my mind thinking I'd already seen this one. Great video, your voice is extremely soothing. Thank you xoxo
Munequita86 same. Lol
Munequita86 Same here.
Me too!
Ditto
This is my 1st time seeing a silent version, I feel the same, you do have a soothing voice. Maybe you can start producing your own set of soothing sleep stories for horror fanatics? I'd pre-order it! Great job from a new subscriber!
you have a wonderful voice
I can't wait for the remakes
Another incredible but sad story. I love the images you add throughout. Please, don't omit them it's one class act and adds nostalgia to the story!
Many thanks for your very kind feedback Lewandra - Much appreciated :)
Very well done. Reminds me of the time in the 1970's radio shows we used to listen to which were so terribly powerful. People of the past play a large part to the people of today and tomorrow...so much to learn. Your stories are wonderful and wise!
Thanks for your very kind feedback Tracey - much appreciated! :)
THIS OPENED MY EYES AND HELPED ME SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! Thank you so much for posting!!!
Marrying the Duke when she was 40...?? Wow, that was considered old-maid age back then.
Silverbush B I like the fact that she preserved && made her childhood dream come TRUE! It shows that she had great determination... What an inspiration!!! ♥️
@Bob Smithereens I hope she found forgiveness and mercy, I hope we all do...
It's sad that you see this inspiring.
She finally married a Duke and refused to be in the same room with him and threatened to kill him in front of party guests.
Nothing without God is good and that's what I took from this. Vanity, money loving and lack of moral and God's law
Back then???
She prob looked twenty at forty
i just found your channel tonight!
Really lovely feedback my friend, thank you so much :)
"Hospital for the insane" They weren't very PC back in those days.
a Stunningly Beautiful Lady....in mind as well as form....who was treated as trash by her husband...a most tragic story...thank you for your kind and respectful telling of her tragic tale....and for all your work researching her life .
I enjoy your narration much better! Thank you for redoing them!
VERY interesting! LOVE how you have put this together...keeps the interest going...never boring...fascinating!
loved the positive remarks you made about Gladys in this! Obsolete I appreciate your silent and narratives and think you've always been one of the coolest because you do comment way more than most! However I'm so happy to here there is too many of us for you to do so! Keep the videos coming and God bless😊👍🏻
I just found you a few hours ago. About to start my 3rd after this. Your voice is just so calming.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback Cassie, much appreciated :)
Cassie Robinson I found his voice and the background music so creepy that I had to turn my bedside lamp on after the first minute, the complete opposite of calming. Lol But I did enjoy the piece in the end after I stopped being so freaked out. Maybe the middle of the night was a bad time to watch.
I dont know how i am here but will love it i think im old so intrested in your views of life
I really enjoy listening to your voice as you present the information in this and other videos. You take time to research and verify facts and assemble them into a very enjoyable and interesting treatise on the topic of your choice. Well done!
Thank you for your very kind feedback Emmy - Much appreciated :)
Thank you for this. Ive always been enthralled by her story and was especially thrilled to see her last known photo
I want to thank you greatly for reading these now. I loved your vids when I could focus, but with medication and other illnesses reading has become difficult. So your efforts to read them out make watching them enjoyable again. Thanks so much.♥ much love from Texas.
This is the most interesting site I have ever seen. I am very glad the narration has been added but the music was lovely also. Hope we all have a great day.
I watched one..had to watch the second....I love how personal you are and look forward to watching the next one..Keep up the GREAT WORK ! PJ
A lovely video and thanks for the narration. A lovely cultured speaking voice. I look eagerly for your stories. Thankyou for all your hard work n sharing with us.xxxx
Thanks for your very kind feedback Marcia - much appreciated :)
You're an absolute gem . Keep up the amazing work you do on these rare historical stories. Love them ....
Wow, she lived to 96, almost 100. Surprising, eventhough she lived with dozens of cats and in deplorable condition. Thank you for your video.
No men and longevity......maybe she was on to something!
What does living with cats have to do with anything?
No one can twist up one fantastic story, based upon truth, as you do! Thank you! Look forward to watching all I can of them.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Susan - very much appreciated :)
I have just run across your channel today and am on my 4th video! I am quite enjoying them! I love that I can work and listen to them at the same time. Thank you so much for your creations and sharing them!
Thank you for your kind feedback - very much appreciated :)
Great narration and sound! Thank you. I also appreciate your sensitivity to the difficulties people have endured.
Thank you kindly!
Wow!!! All that effort just for us fans? I think you and your channel are such a wonderful and rare find.I am very fortunate to have stumbled across you, and I have encouraged my many friends to stop by and check you out. Thanks again, Obsolete Oddity. (BTW - Is that your voice narrating? If so, well done. Your voice is both mysterious and soothing.)
Hey thank you for your very kind feedback my friend! Yes that's me narrating...gotta save money, can't afford a professional, lol :)
I really appreciate you spreading the message about my channel - THANK YOU!
Great news! You have a stunning voice... addicting to the ear! Joy, joy!
No need to comment back. Thank you for all you do from a Texan (League City, Tx) who now resides in Jacksonville, Fl. Take care of yourself.
I love your videos, & very much appreciate the new approach to narration. I like to be doing other things while watching/listening to YT videos, & often the ones that consist of only text, are difficult due to slow reading & eyesight that isn't very good anymore. This format has made your videos a true delight. Thank you so much for all the work you put forth.
Thanks very much for your very kind feedback. Much appreciated :)
Thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback Cherry 😊
I love love love these I hope you never change a thing! I am bedbound with cancer for now( don't worry I'm not dying) and these keep me occupied and fascinated with people I've seldom heard of.
Get well soon Chrissy!
Once again, you've created a splendid presentation. Thank you
Never heard of her or the duke until your vid. Outstanding job I must say.
Very interesting. We are remembering great oddities we had forgotten.Thank you.
Thanks very much for your kind feedback Dimitrios 😊 much appreciated!

Love your documentaries and commentary. Thank you for your time and research.
I love love love your voice! I can just imagine hearing your distinct voice doing features for the History channel, audio books and commercials, your voice make these stories come alive. Thank you for all your time and effort, Bless You Always
Thank you for the lovely compliment Patricia! I love history so I enjoy being involved in every aspect of my 'mini-productions'.
I'd love a paid job narrating! Your kind words are much appreciated - bless you.
ObsoleteOddity Your so welcome! Then maybe this is your resume, and you have only to send your video samples to some studio networks and some agent offices like William Morris, who knows what could happen, you definitely have a discernable and captive voice, I think it was made for narrating and broadcasting!
Thank you for the suggestion...and it's a good one! You know what? I
might just follow up on that - nothing ventured, nothing gained...
Again, many thanks for your encouraging & supportive feedback Patricia.
2019. What a great video. Please continue to present more.
Thank you.
What a history and the epitome is the statue of her as a sphinx. Quite different and remarkable, which reflects her. Thank you ObsoleteOddity for all you do with your wonderful voice and quiet background music and giving knowledge. .
Thanks very much for your kind feedback Shirley 😊 much appreciated!
This is my 1st visit- Thank you! Brilliant! Just haunting, keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for your explained comment at the end of this video .I completely understand that you can not reply anymore. I'm sure we all understand this. I love that your putting your voice to the older videos. Bless you and thank you for all your hard work.
Beautiful young girl to an Extremely Beautiful woman. Some times beauty can be a down fall in women trying to keep their beauty.
It's sad to see the sadness in this woman's life.
Thank you for being very Responsible, Considerate, Respectful and Caring while sharing Gladys a story.
!WOW! How interesting she was ~ Yes?! It almost reminds of ‘Great Expectations’ and ‘Grey Gardens’! Good share again ~ Thank U ☮️&💟
Never heard of Gladys...until this video.
Just recently found your channel and I am really enjoying it...
Especially your voice!
❤

Your Voice is very,very nice.
Thank you so much for your narration, the photos,to find good stories and your comments at the end of this vídeo.I really enjoy it. It was too difficult to learn this language but I studied hard and finally I can understand English.I had good teachers....Thanks a million for your help-informal.

Much appreciated Monica! Thanks for watching & the great feedback! xx
Watched my first video of yours tonight. I enjoyed it so much. She was an amazing woman. I look forward to watching more of your work. Thank you...
And still today women chase the perfect features. 😢
Women's vanity smh
We still live in an age where a woman's value is still placed heavily on age and beauty. :(
Susan Carroll And so do men. Some women. Some men. Not all.
@@Vampybattie Equaled by men who take steroids and ruin their health for the "perfect" physique.
@@artemisia2002us its true the steroids rhuined my health and gave me an adonis body but i did get a sweet pair of man boosims in the deal
Omg.... You panicked me!!! When i heard you saying you were going to do the videos silent i began typing before you said you'd also still leave your narration! You sir absolutely have great talent and i truly enjoy!!!
Dear sir, thank you so much for your narration, upon certain parts of History I did not even know about!
Many thanks for your kind feedback Marc - Much appreciated :)
Great job . Very great job . This video is like one of several Television shows I watch late at night .:Poor Miss Deacon . She lived a long life though .Thanks for the heads up . I have another story to place upon my shelf .
Thank you friend! I'm hoping one day to be one of those several TV shows, lol (wishful thinking!)
I have these on TH-cam instead of crap celeb programmes or soaps
So glad your doing this love your channel! please keep them coming love your narrative.
Such an interesting take on these historical figures. Thank You.
I just now found your site, and cannot wait for more. Beautifully narrated, and so many lessons to be found in the obsolete. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind feedback Amy - much appreciated :)
Just discovered this channel tonight. Fascinating and well done. Looking forward to exploring the archives.
Thanks very much Kate for your very kind feedback. Much appreciated :)
I love these videos, so informative, very very interesting. Just love social history and you make it fun. Thank you
I really can relate to her life story I have something in common with her, the vanity
I hate mirrors, I hate looking at myself inspite people see me as an attractive woman in my age of 78 now
How I wished and prayed to God the Almighty to restore my youthful health and body
Your presentation of her is greatly appreciated
Yes it sucks ass to get old. Robs a person of any looks you might have had, not to mention your physical health. And maybe mental stability. Blech.😠
You earned those scars of life. They tell a beautiful story of you
Be proud of them.
Yes, i feel for her. . . "We just need to hang on. . . Whatever life brings" Elizabeth Taylor.
Ning Ning Precious God will restore your youth and beauty in Heaven. Pray to Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive your sins and come into your heart. Sincerely mean it and start to read the bible and cultivate a relationship with Jesus. You will never die and live for eternity with Him!
You have excellent video's, you are a great narrator. That's great history right there. Keep up your incredible work Sir. Thank you for posting these historical video's. I watch then when ever I can.❤.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Kelly - much appreciated! 🎩
@@ObsoleteOddity you are very welcome no problem.😎.
