She really was a fascinating woman. ALL want with an a gorgeously creative mind. But as a female - her skin her physique etc she's truly beautiful... My partner and I have watched hours off her. Fascinating woman.
Her authenticity, infectiousness and complete candidness ALWAYS RADIATES Joy Positivity TRUTH! The B & W! Fit, beauty, a rare GEM! B&W really just captivates her natural stunning beauty! She could’ve been a model for alopecia or
Yes. Had she been raised in a normal way (Big Edie was everything BUT normal. Bit of a lunatic) she might have had a far more successful, far less interesting life. Her mother's personality shaped everything about Evie. Sweet natured Little Edie did what Mother Darling told her to do. Hearing the what-ifs and the sadness in her voice in GG, yet with the optimism still there, that maybe it will still happen for her. It did happen, for a time after her mother's death she had an act and performed here and there. She chose hope and optimism. Her strength is titanium.
Edie Beale was a very intelligent and well-read woman. She also had a natural eye for fashion. Her mother’s death actually helped her blossom and come out of her shell. She had her nightclub act, and according to her niece in law Eva Beale who was in regular (in-person) contact with her, she had a normal, active social life in Florida, and she swam every day in the ocean until she died.
So beautiful and sweet. Never let herself be lured into saying anything bad about anyone. The interviewer tried and tried, but little Edie remained classy and sweet as always.
“ I think they’re both very well dressed, don’t you?” What a sweet and thoughtful way to respond to a question that ABSOLUTELY put her in an awkward position. I just *adore* Edie❤
Thank you for this. I've only just 'discovered' this woman Edie Beale this past week from watching Grey Gardens and already I'm fascinated and enchanted by her. I can see why so many people adore her.
There is an entire documentary here on TH-cam on them. There were some cinematographers that lived in the house with them for several months and filmed their daily lives in hopes of selling their story and splitting the profits. The interest in doing so was because they were both related to the Kennedy's but were shunned by them. You have to see that documentary. In recent years their was a series made called by the same name - Grey Gardens which started Drew Barrymore and another actress. It was a pretty good movie but we all wondered why it was made in the first place since the real life family documentary already exists. Oh well.
She seems more lucid. She was definitely more lucid than when she was around her mother. It's so sad that her mother made her a symbiotic twin and not let her thrive, but Edie seemed to somehow manage to find her own happiness.
I really don't think she was crazy, sure maybe different but she was a sweet, good person who was controlled and manipulated by her mother rather than being crazy.
@@teijaflink2226 I didn't think she was crazy at all. Or mentally ill. It seemed to me that she was entertaining herself with all the dancing, singing and weird fashion designs.
She wasn't crazy at all, she was a victim of circumstance. Brought into a world of lavish wealth and old money aristocracy, a time long gone - but had it all snatched away by the codependence of her mother and was locked into destitution and isolation. Anyone would struggle if put in that situation. Imagine having to live and look after a 14 room house on 4 acres of land - but with no money and no income at all, with only your ageing mother. If Big Edie would have sold the house and land they would have had enough money to do whatever they wanted for the rest of their days and Edie would have e had the chance for a life she wanted. Glad she got to have that at least after Big Edie died.
Edie Beale was a fashionista and creative. I'm so glad that she was able to blossom on the screen. RIP Edie you certainly left your mark on this blue marble.
I was fortunate enough to have met and gotten to know Little Edie back in the 70s and she was one of the kindest women I have ever known...She was also incredibly smart and very witty....Her mother on the other hand was very controlling and could be very mean! I truly felt bad for Little Edie for many reasons...But she never thought of herself as a victim for her unwavering devotion to her mother...Also Little Edie was an amazing friend and Ally to the LGBTQ community even back then! She never judged anyone except for those who were outright mean and nasty! I often wish she was still with us today...She was wonderful to talk to and loved to tell so many stories...I was in my late teenage years then and could appreciate much of what she would tell me...but again I do remember how kind she was!
The Gray gardens documentary by filmmaker maysles brothers is fascinating. Edie was smart, intelligent, whitty, fun, jaw-dropping beautiful In her youth. A Restrictive father also ruled her mother, they smothered Edie's future to live freely, speak freely, and find love from her many suitors. What she might have become ☹️. Imho, she lapsed into a complicated, devoted, mother/ daughter Stockholm Syndrome-esque existence. 🙄🐦 RIP 🙏
@@debszakormos7919 I agree. I think Big Edie was very manipulative and very controlling. She made Little Edie crumble and doubt herself. Big Edie gaslighted her daughter, one minute praising her, the next putting her down in horrible ways. I wish Little Edie had left her mother, but then, she wouldn´t be the Little Edie we love and admire.
She seemed very kind and wise. I only wish she could have found love, yet she lived out her end years peacefully. I always watch the doc over and over.
Edie was so perceptive. I remember from Grey Gardens she said something like politicians act as if no one has any pride and they run roughshod over everyone...brilliant! and more true today than ever
they laughed at her but she was pretty prescient with some of her fashion statements- punk-like safety-pins etc, headdresses. Before her time in a lot of ways, and a great beauty in her youth as well - even as she aged, always attractive. Loved that show.
Little Edie was ahead of her time! She was genuine, honest, creative, talented, gentle, intuitive, compassionate, naive, highly intelligent, beautiful and charming...i could go on. 😊I wish i knew her. I would have cherished her presence. ❤ you lil Edie😺
Predicting Global warming lol…Edie had so much natural charisma, was enchanting, elegant, intriguing, odd and unusual. All things that make for the most interesting of characters. She would for sure be one of my fantasy dinner guests.
Little Edie held her own with this guy. I hesitate to refer to him as an interviewer. I mean, those are the best questions he could come up with? I wish someone had just asked "Can you tell me about yourself?" and let her run with it!
Totally impossible not to love Eddie with her wit, her diplomacy, her go with the flow and her ever appealing stories of which she never tires of telling, if you ask ! 🍃🌱
Wow. Just great. Never seen this. She seems “normal”. Makes me wonder if a lot of her carrying on in the documentary was her just putting on a show for the film. Not that she was bay shit crazy in the doc…but def moreso than in this clip.
Her mother was deceased by this time. It probably improved her mental health to be out of that very dysfunctional & toxic relationship dynamic. Her mother basically saw off any suitors ( as she admitted on camera in Grey Gardens) & made sure Edie was her lifelong companion with noife of her own.
I agree with you. Some of Edie's fans are calling themselves "overprotective" and it must be the reason. As an atypical person, I don't see anything wrong with this guy's attitude. He was even actively nice at some points, maybe even flirty, just a little bit.
Where can I find the entire interview? I could watch little Edie all day and never get tired or bored. When I discovered “Grey Gardens” I watched it everyday, I just walked around with earbuds in so I could listen, because that’s how interesting and captivating those women were, the original “Podcast “ 😁 but to add the video of them is icing on the cake because then you get to see their clothes and surroundings and how poised they always were. I wish I could find more videos like this. Timeless.
Such a pretty woman. I find her extremely interesting and I love her stories. Very eccentric like my old landlord. What happened to her after her mother died. I see their home was renovated which I’m glad to see instead of being torn down.
omg little Edie is absolutely fascinating and I agree with those here who say they could listen to her talking all day long! She's a totally unique one of a kind person who knows what she is doing and what she is saying and is way too smart to be manipulated by the likes of this ridiculous interviewer.
It's amazing how loved she is by new generations who are only just discovering her now, I love her accent too, there are so many sounds to unpack it sounds like hybrid of many accents.
What a sweet soul she was. I love her sense of fashion and her natural love and empathy for animals. What a cool person she was. I would have loved to chat with her.😊
She was very appealing and interesting to listen to. I like her a lot. I wish I could have met her and had a dinner and talk at least once. She was charming and sweet!
I was just thinking the same thing. I was 8 years old when the documentaries were made about her and her mother. You can tell little Edie was very intelligent, and I loved hearing her speak. I, too, wish she was still alive today.
Edie sounds like a very interesting intelligent person. The interviewer seems to be trying to trap her into saying something ridiculous but she is politely refusing. I think her main problem was that she simply hadn’t been out in the world in a long time, stuck at home taking care of her mother.
I LOVE Little Edie, of course. I HATED that punk interviewer guy. He was trying to make FUN of her, like trying to get "info" out of her to FURTHER his story....
An absolute sweetheart and very clever as she never criticised anyone - avoided knocking people.

She still had it at 56 in the documentary. That's hard to maintain for sure.

The interviewer was trying to provoke her. She maintained her natural dignity. I am fascinated by little Edie!
Agree!!!!
In the end, she moved to Florida, had her own place all to herself, and had her time on the stage, performing, living out her dream.

She had the most soothing voice.
She is so magnetic and magnificent! So beautiful and her voice is soothing.

Something between a New England and Mid-Atlantic accent, I think? That accent is a lost art..
She was so singularly unique and enchanting! Just wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing - there is not nearly enough Edie content. What a treasure.
