I hate that writers have been so encouraged to be on Twitter, and I feel it's setting so many of them up for scandal and failure. It's the only reason (my being a writer---not the scandal and failure) I broke down and got an account. I tried to be active and tweet semi-regularly for a while, but I found I could actually feel my mood spiral downward by. The. Minute. Every time I opened Twitter. And for all the reasons you mentioned. I don't understand the people who can thrive there.
Deleted my Twitter a while back, when it started to pitch downwards towards the growing social media dumpster fire. There's just some things you just don't want to even passively support. I can't stop somethings, but I can at least not help it along. Also, I am reminded of the line from Monty Python: "On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place."
I deleted my twitter account when banned accounts started coming back. Not having twitter has done wonders for my mental health. There is no good reason to be on that cesspit
TH-cam offered your vids to me, ss i strolled sadly around booktube in search of nuance. I've been going through them ever since and enjoying them immensely. I've never been on twitter ...
The comedian David Baddiel said that he joined Twitter in the early days because people said "It's great, it's like a party with all your friends and everyone is really witty". He said it was like that but then the party was gatecrashed by a load of angry drunks.
Extremely valid. I deleted my account when they first announced that user's personal info might be compromised a little while after the Elon purchase. Haven't regretted it one bit.
Honestly, good decision. And my first thought was indeed, why would or should you when you're reaching your audience well enough here or patreon, or on spotify? I still have my account, but I'm not really using it anymore. One minute on it and it just draiiiins me.
"Why we are not on twitter" I mean I don't know if you need to justify it, we all know the kind of dumpster fire twitter is, who in their right mind (and without financial/professional reasons) would like to be there?
I don't blame you guys. There hardly ever is any good news that starts with Twitter. All I ever hear about it is that people get cancelled there, so imo you're not missing out on attracting the crowd that hangs out there.
YEP. I've joined and deleted Twitter three times. My final final straw was logging in and seeing antisemitic tags trending on it every day for a full week. I joined for eventual publishing purposes (about to start querying!) but I'd rather do this without a social media following. Will it be harder? I'm told yes. But I'd rather struggle with querying than struggle with antisemitism and everything else Twitter is known for sucking for.
I truly can not handle twitter. Every once in a while I’ll explore but without fail, within a few minutes I’ll find something so infuriating/disappointing/bigoted that I don’t open the app for another few months. For every somewhat nuanced opinion on twitter, there’s ten idiots typing out there Strawman argument or just saying something for the sake of getting a rise out of someone. I don’t get the appeal at all. Especially w musky running the scene ugh
Yeah, I recently discovered you all and have been binge watching your videos but I've never had a Twitter account so that's always been pointless for me
I can tell you from experience booktwitter can be a very miserable place. There’s been times in the past where it’s literally put me into reading slumps because of how truly awful people can be. And how it feels like people revel in their cruelty. They feel no remorse and don’t care about the ways they behave. Like it’s a place that can truly make you feel miserable and just unhappy.
twitter is no longer the gated community it used to be. It's now a microcosm of the actual world, with all of its warts and wrinkles. If you are running a professional account on twitter, then you should keep it related to your profession. It's always a bad idea to mix your personal and professional life, so if you really have the urge to express personal opinions on twitter, you should do it on a separate personal account. Common sense. In addition, simply experiencing different views (without even engaging) is a productive way to get out of our self-created internet bubbles and develop a thicker skin for opinions we don't like.

They hate themselves. I recommend just deleting it if it becomes a dopamine rush.

Very valid reasons. I'm just on Twitter for the cats and that one person watching Buffy for the first time
Ok the Buffy one makes me *almost* curious about it.

Twitter/X is such a cesspool... you can meet great/like minded people there and also the worst kind as well.

Good luck with your queries! -Kt
Twitter is just not worth the headache
Don't worry bout twitter it's pretty much dust anyway.

Totally valid reasons, and it's also why I've never gotten a Twitter nor will I ever.
ohh frrr twitter is a hellscape
Haven’t even watched this yet but you’re correct
Great call💯
The platform thrives on negativity
Yeah, I recently discovered you all and have been binge watching your videos but I've never had a Twitter account so that's always been pointless for me
I had to restart Twitter when I joined a book review site. I am in the loop for indy author stuff due to it but I avoid posting much.
I left twitter when it changed to x it just became unusable. I used to love twitter but I don’t miss it at all

Well said
Twitter was fun……….. in 2008
Did you watch those social media CEO’s get grilled on the news? I thought it was interesting. Anyway, I hope all goes well for you guys.

contrapoints was definitely in the wrong, just saying
like she wasn't "cancelled" because she got misunderstood on twitter. she platformed a transmed bigot (buck angel) in a video.
like hello? buck angel?
like of course if you only listen to her and not the people who reasonably called her out, of course it's gonna seem toxic
kinda brilliant PR move on her part to move the conversation away from what she did to how toxic twitter is.
essenceofthought has multiple videos explaining the contrapoints situation from a lot of our perspectives watching
"They pushed Lindsay Ellis off the internet, which I will never forgive them."
💜💙💚💛🧡🤎Thank you!
