September | Spring | 2024

This year has been a rougher start to spring than I am used to. Usually the first day is exactly what you would expect, sunshine, the sound of birds, and that change in the air I can’t quite describe but you know it’s different and exciting.
This year however, we have had some of the strongest winds I can recall combined with a week of non stop rain. Thankfully, we were fine in our little tiny house, and so was our town. Which is honestly mind-blowing with the chaos that surrounded us.
Our fruit trees we planted over winter are budding beautifully. I’m pretty sure I was checking them every day, dreaming of the orchard we will one day be picking fresh cherries, apples, and plums from.
I think the biggest delight amongst the berries so far, has been the haskaps, as I honestly wasn’t sure they had survived last summer. But I noticed them budding towards the end of winter, and since being in the ground they have grown vibrant green foliage and have even begun fruiting, maybe we will be trying our first ever haskap berry this summer, I’m not sure, but it’s very exciting.
The main goal for September in the garden was completing the fence, and Zane has done a beyond amazing job, I am so thankful to be going into this season with complete freedom in the garden from the rabbits.
We have something exciting due to be delivered in the second half of October. A much needed investment for the gardens productiveness, I can’t wait to share what it is with you.
