    Hey bro,,, GLAD TO SEE a drift fisherman again. lol, I have been showing guys in my videos how to use this drift technique while flossing stop yanking and detect the bite by mending on a slider weight and up the odds of both. Funniest thing is how many guys say fish wont eat eggs,, if its drifted. Been drifting for 30 years.. before long leaders came along.
    Can I ask why not a slider weigh? you can detect the bite before they feel the weight and let go, it will go direct to the tip of your rod especially if your mending your line. Very good video bro.

    Another 🔥 video brother. Good work!

    • @BrianMonticello
      @BrianMonticello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks bro! And yeah I’ve heard of the whole “burning” them thing but tbh I just dump a ton of the cure on them, and they always get hit lol it doesn’t seem like the fish care. I mean I just put enough to cover every inch of the eggs pretty generously, and then after they’re fully cured I put a little extra 🤙🏻 I’ll show you sometime 😉

    • @twistedjigco.548
      @twistedjigco.548 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use regular fire cure first for a more firm egg, let them cure 2 days and they will soak up all the juice! Then put them outside on some cookie drying racks so they can drip and dry. Roll them around in borax/boraxOfire mix after they are dried a bit and keep drying till you like the firmness. Usually bout 4-12 hours or longer. Then jar them with borax in the bottom of the jar so they stay dry.

      I got two I swore were jacks. Opened em up and they were full of eggs lol. 🤷🏻‍♂️ out of curiosity, you been noticing a muddy flavor to the cohos out of the green? My last few had a real muddy quality to em in the pan.

    That's Interisting you bonk it AND then bleed it... we just toss our fish on a stringer long enough that they can swim out a bit and stay alive until until we've limited and right before we leave well bleed them out and then dress them...

    • @BrianMonticello
      @BrianMonticello  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've thought about that method too over the years, as I've seen it done all over the place. But I mainly do not do that for 2 reasons. First is, I think there are different compounds that build up in the fish as they pretty much have a slow death there on your stringer as they are undergoing all that stress (depending on how long they survive) which I believe can affect the meat quality. I think of it sort of similarly to how lactic acid builds up in humans as we run/walk for long distances. And second reason is just its not super ethical, since they are probably suffering a slower death on your stringer as opposed to just bonking them right out. And that in combination with the meat quality issue from my first reason, I think makes it all the more unneeded, since I think the whole idea is that keeping them alive would preserve meat quality, when in fact, they're not quite "alive and well" so to say where the meat quality would be preserved best.

    What makes you think it’s okay to put the river name? Do you have any respect for the people who grew up fishing these spots? (Honest question)

    • @BrianMonticello
      @BrianMonticello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The river name does not give any spots away. It is zero secret that the green river has salmon in it, and it is over 60 miles long

    • @BrianMonticello
      @BrianMonticello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      And anyone who already salmon fishes is already well aware of the green river, much like the puyallup, Snohomish, Columbia, etc are all well known rivers to have fish. If I was giving away specific spots on the river, sure, I’d agree with you. But I also don’t want to blow out my own spots, and posting simply the river name will not do this. That’s my thinking at least, and if somebody already knows the spot just by looking at it, chances are they’ve already been fishing there before

      @@BrianMonticello well apparently you haven’t grown up here and watched the demise of our fishing due to the internet. In a city of 2+ million people, dropping river names is going to destroy the last bit of fishery left. But to each their own I guess, see you on the river.

    • @BrianMonticello
      @BrianMonticello  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainconnorsadventures6357 I think that demise is due a lot more to the fact that tons of people have been moving here in previous years similar to the gentrification problem in seattle. I don’t believe that these videos have any negative side effects unless I was giving away specific spots. People that know about the salmon fishing in the area are the ones watching these videos and if you feel that more people should not get into the sport then I suppose that’s your opinion but it’s not mine, and I think you’re pointing your blame in the wrong places
