Chef Jeffrey, I am an old white woman in NC, and I cook the food of my southern, rural roots, very similar to you. We cooked what we grew, and I still do. It's still my favorite food. Guests think I'm a great cook, but it is simple old country cooking.
I was raised in Cali by my Baton Rouge born Granma. I remember growing up and seeing at least 10 sweet potato pies cooling on our washer and dryer. She would bribe us with a whole pie to split just to keep us out the kitchen while she cooked that morning. and my other fave dessert would be her ambrosia. now my kids love it as much as I do.
Chef Jeffrey, your sweet potato pies look like perfection! So glad you told us not to boil the potatoes but bake them to retain the flavor! 😊 No doubt anyone who is attending your Thanksgiving feast will be truly blessed by the deliciousness of all these special dishes you're preparing for them! ❤😊
My grandmother in New Orleans had Sunbeam Mixer. Those mixers got the job done. I use less sugar because I use condensed milk instead of pet milk. Everythimg else the same. Thanks for sharing.
You are hilarious 😆😂 this morning 😆 lol about if you don't have a sweet potato pie on your table for holidays something is wrong.actually my mom made sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie my dad loved pumpkin pie 🥧 pie over potato pie lol
I am team sweet potato all the way, especially when it's cold to eat. That's the only pie my mom made when I was growing up. We also enjoyed potatoes when she put them under hot ashes in the fireplace to cook. Those were great memories, and mom has been gone since 9-11-13. I miss her dearly, but thanks for the video. God bless.
Yum... yum.... yum!! I sure wish I was your neighbor!! 🤗 Like so many other people here, I love that tip on baking them and not boiling them! By the way, I just looked up the Guinness Book of World Records, and some guy in Spain holds the record for an 81 pound sweet potato that he grew. 😆 You wouldn't believe how many people are trying to break his record!! 81 pounds... THAT'S A LOT OF PIES! 🤣🍠
Mr. Jeffery I LOVE and appreciate your recipes and your channel so much. I love that I can share with my children the recipes of our southern black American heritage. It’s also the sound of your voice and how you speak that reminds me of my childhood. For reasons I can’t share online I especially appreciate what you’re doing and it helpful to me and my family. 💜Thank you.💜
Hey Chef Jeffery! Those Sweet Potato Pies look amazing.😊 I'm glad you don't put ginger in your pies.😂 To me, it makes the sweet potato taste bitter.😝 Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day. 🙏💘
@@kaedynjames7826 Kaedyn~ If you have a food processor, take about a dozen graham crackers (12 crackers = 1.5 cups) and pulverize them into crumbs. Or... just toss the graham crackers in a sealed baggie and crush them with a rolling pin until you have sandy crumbs. They also sell graham cracker crumbs at grocery stores in a box, but I've never tried them. Put the crumbs in a bowl and add 6 tablespoons of melted butter and 1/3 cup of granulated sugar. Stir the mixture until it all comes together (only takes a few seconds) ..Then put the crumb mixture into the pie pan you're using and press the bottom of it down flat on the bottom of the pan, while bringing the crumb mixture up the sides to the top. If you have a small, flat measuring cup or even a small glass, it works great to press the crumbs down so that they're all nice and flat throughout the pie pan. There's a kazillion videos that show people pressing down their crumbs into their pie pan. Gently place the crust into a pre-heated 350 degree oven for about 7 or 8 minutes. Don't leave it in too long!! It should cool down pretty quick, then you're ready to fill it and continue baking! 😋🥧 Some people also like using a mixture of graham crackers and gingersnaps for sweet potato or pumpkin pies.. All up to your tastebuds! 🤗
Good morning Chef.Sweet potato pie is a staple in the south .That’s my favorite pie for Thanksgiving or Christmas.Thank you for the recipe and the tips on making a sweet potato pie. I like them warm and cold. Those pies look delicious.Happy Thanksgiving.Have a blessed and prosperous day and weekend.❤
Hi Chef Jeffrey! I never like sweet potato pie. It was always at the church functions. But after I met my hubby he asked me to make one on our first Thanksgiving. I researched recipes and found one that sounded good. I made it and boy was it good! Now I realize I never liked sweet potato pie all those years because I’d never had a good one! LOL. After my pie is ready and before putting it in the oven, I sprinkle it with about 1/4 to 1/3 cup white sugar. Let it set about 15-30 minutes and then bake. It makes a wonderful caramel like crust on top and that really makes it! God Bless you and have a great weekend!
Thank you Chef Jeffrey! This recipe is just like my Grandmother's except she made her Sweet Potato pies with coconut. I couldn't tell you where the coconut variation came from......It's my favorite pie next pecan pie!
Good morning Chef. Those pies look delicious. Thank you for mentioning Sunbeam mixers. My late husband and I bought one on our honeymoon. We had that green mixer for years. I look forward to seeing the great videos you always bring to us.
There is nothing like the smell of sweet potatoes in the air. You have that right there is no way to tell how many pies can be made. Looking delightful Chef Jeff, just perfect!! Yes some like theirs in the icebox but they taste delicious either way. I can't believe we are so close to Thanksgiving! Lucky friends & neighbors getting these gems!
Chef I agree with you. I need my pie cold right out of the fridge. I love how that pie just sets up perfectly. I already can’t find Pillsbury deep dish crust. But I have a work around. I went on Amazon and ordered the aluminum pie pans and I bought the boxed rolled up Pillsbury crust.
Oh my oh my, this is my favorite pie, Thanksgiving or not. In love sweet potatoes period. The pies look delicious. To bad I'm not a neighbor, cause I'd be right there for me a slice or 2. TYFS. Be blessed. Enjoy ur slice of delicious. #ossfjustshowsomekindness. 😊❤
Good morning Chef Jeffery! You always stir up good memories. Watching this video takes me right back to being a kid on Thanksgiving, watching my mother bake 10 to 15 pies to give away, the smell coming from the kitchen would drive us crazy!!! Watch my video from last Monday

No I haven’t
Chef Jeffrey, can I make this without a pie crust? I only like the innerts. The pie crust is a waste for me. Do i need to add a bit of flour?
Idk actually
I still use my Sunbeam electric hand mixer!
