Yup. People are always trying to say that the CFL is basically a lesser version of the NFL, but that's really comparing apples and oranges. The fundamentals of the game are similar, but the details can be shockingly different.

The rules of Canadian football certainly seem more logical, especially when compared with other types of football. Football in the US tries so hard to take the “foot” out of football.

Both games evolved from rugby, but the NFL added more rules that make various rugby plays impossible. Even so, many of them are incredibly rare in the CFL. Technically, it would be legal for a player to dribble the ball down the field as in soccer, which is not infrequent in rugby but I have never seen it in the CFL.

If what you are saying is that on a kick the members of the kicking team who are not onside (i.e. the kicker and everyone behind him when the kick is made) have to be 5 or more yards away from the receiver at the moment he touches the ball, yes. That is the no yards rule. Of course the ball is still live before being touched which is why if nobody touches it and it goes through the endzone a rouge is scored. And once a member of the receiving team touches the kicked ball, the kicking team no longer has to give yards. The weirdest clip in this set is the one at 1:29 where the ball was sitting on the goal line. The BC kicker was onside and could have picked that ball up for a touchdown, so where was he? Maybe he forgot he was playing football and went out for a beer figuring that the play was over once he had kicked it.😀

The first play of this video reminds me of a trick play that I think is possible under the rule set of the NFL. If a ball is punted and it does not cross the line of scrimmage anyone on the offense is able to recover the ball behind the line of scrimmage and advance the ball passed it. If my understanding is correct on a play where the center is not grading anyone the QB can punt pass it to the Center, as long as he gets it behind the line of scrimmage, for a gain.
