Top Gear is what happened when you took Clarkson,, Hammond and James May and poured money over them and turned cameras on. And whatever they do to keep that brand name going wont make that show happen again. Clarkson, May and Hammond WERE that show.
As a lifelong TG fan I managed 10 minutes and turned it over.

I refuse to listen to him on the radio, watch him on the TV, or even look at a picture of him, he's a slimy cretin
actually Top Gear was never fully scripted. There were draft created based on what was planned for the show (like for ex. Reliant Robin falling on that exact spot we can see in one of the episodes, ) but lines were mostly (not all of them) improvised by Jeremy, Richard and James BASED on the script. So they were allowed to change them on the go.
It was mentioned in one of the interviews with Andy Wilman.
Top gear with Clarkson is unscripted but the new top gear has more super cars than the odd ball thrown test cars that get broken from there funny unscripted stunts

Even with the originals it was waning a bit the last series , found it hard to watch , it had lost something IMO .......

As much as I like the previous version of Top Gear and the trio who presented it, JC assaulted a crew member and people were calling for him to be sacked. Not to mention the fact the BBC has given him several warnings in the past, so the way I see it, the BBC had no choice but to let him go. Everything crumbled after that, but this whole thing is happening in the first place because of JC.

But in any case we watch a lot of American TV in the UK and some of the best telly to ever hit our screens has been American....Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Lost....and a lot more. But some shows don't work and this is one such show and the addition of token American celeb in a desperate bid to rescue the show from oblivion after losing the main reason people watch it, just makes it worse. Maybe if it was 1999 Evans and Le Blanc would work lol

The Reasonably Priced Car was always my favourite bit, more so than the challenges etc. But what they did was horrendous. The fake out build up was flat and the new track didn't win me over, but I'm willing to give it another shot. But what really got me was the interview section before it. What happened to actually interviewing the guests? All they did was compare cars in some sort of crappy contest that didn't even work. Surely they'd check their car history first? I guess not. It was painful to see and the two guests were totally mismatched.

That may be partly true, but I really gave it a go and tried to be entertained but I switched off after 40 minutes. All the in-jokes and gags came from Clarksons mad head and them being parroted by Evans and co just wasn't funny. It was a bad cover version of a great song. Two great car shows would have been brilliant, but it's not going to happen.

The whole idea about the reasonably priced (cheap & slow) car was that the minimal driving errors wouldn't make huge differences between times. A fast(er) car on a gravel & tarmac track will result in huge time differences due to minimal driving errors.
