      These old cookbooks are always fun to look through, I love the history and information that they have. Amanda, I was so happy they turned out nicely brown but was so disappointed in the saltiness, lesson learned for next time ☺️. Have a blessed day!

    Wow I thought this was going to be about making something to eat. Never knew it was mostly bout looking at pictures in an old book

    I love your vintage mixer! I went to the antique store this past weekend looking for vintage kitchen items. I have a similar croquette recipe, but I love how yours turned out. Nice and golden brown. Fried is the way to go. Thanks for sharing, Holly!

      I love to go to thrift stores and find vintage kitchen items. I feel like I’m hunting for treasure. I feel like these old items have such a history. I really wish I would have left some of the salt out but I was pleased they didn’t burn. Have a blessed day Andrea!

    I love that this cookbook showed how to set tables, that is definitely missing from all modern cookbooks. I LOVE your hand mixer! I am pretty sure that my mother had/has one, too. I love technology, but gadgets like this are so much fun. Love the section on lunches for children. How fun to read!
    The chicken croquettes looked delicious. Less salt noted. :) God bless you, Holly!!

      I think the older cookbooks packed so much more information into them that was really of value. I have several new cookbooks that I don’t enjoy as much as the older ones. I can’t imagine having to make a cake or meringue with that hand mixer, I love collecting old vintage items like that. I felt I couldn’t stress it enough about the salt lol! Have a very blessed day Jessica!! 💕

      Vintage cookbooks are definitely like a history book, they all have a unique story to tell. I like to find really old gadgets like the mixer, I just don’t want to go back to having to use them 😂. Have a great day!

I didn’t realize until I was editing my video that I had seen your video on the Rubin croquettes, I love how we basically choose a similar recipe from two totally different cookbooks. There is definitely a variety of croquettes recipes to try 😊. I loved the ones you did as well they looked delicious!

      Thank you so much Kelly! I love the really old ones. I don’t cook with a lot of salt usually because of health reasons but I was worried it might alter the taste and really should have gone with my gut and added just 1/2 teaspoon instead. I could tell they were flavorful but just too salty. Have a blessed week!

      @@hollyshomemadehaven I really would have thought 2 tsp of salt was not a lot with all that chicken, but good to know.I learned to cook from my mom, and her mom was a cook when she came here from Italy. They had their recipes written down, but they never followed to the letter. Taste as you go and adjust the next time if you are not happy with it. Your video style and presentation are awewome Holly!

    • @hollyshomemadehaven
      @hollyshomemadehaven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shopsipsaute6981 I thought the same thing about the salt and amount of chicken. I also realized the bread crumbs and Worcestershire sauce has salt as well which could have contributed to the saltiness. I love that your mom and grandmother brought their recipes with them, I hope you have them, that’s such a treasure. My mom didn’t use recipes just cooked from memory so I had to get my sister who’s older to write down how she cooked it. It was hard because she did the same add a little of this a little of that and taste as you go. After trial and error I finally have my childhood recipes that my mom made taste just like hers and that’s definitely what I call comfort food. Kelly I truly appreciate your very sweet comment! Thank you so much 😊!

      I love these older vintage cookbooks they’re so interesting. I’ve never used the mixer either I just like to collect relics of the past lol. I was so disappointed with the salt and honestly I should have realized it was a lot but I think I was trying to give the recipe the benefit of the doubt, I’ll go with my instincts next time. I can tell it would have been tasty. Have a blessed week Ann!

    These look like my grandmother's croquettes! Even better! I would agree - 1/2 teaspoon and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce us probably enough. With both her meatloaf and croquettes, my grandmother always fried a tablespoon or two so she could taste the product after it was cooked. She would then adjust the seasonings accordingly.

    Is this what they call coxinha in Brazil? It is highly possible that the authors of this cookbook may have learnt it from there.

    • @hollyshomemadehaven
      @hollyshomemadehaven  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s very possible, I know coxinha was made around 1846 so the authors of the cookbook could have definitely learned of it and put it in the cookbook. Have a great weekend! 😊
