How hard! One can take pleasure and eulogize its furtherance; but cannot further it very far. The vehemence of my attack may seem to be unnecessary; but I can assure you that it is not uncalled for. There is a strong belief in the mind of orthodox Hindus that the Hindu Society was somehow moulded into the framework of the Caste System and that it is an organization consciously created by the Shastras. Not only does this belief exist, but it is being justified on the ground that it cannot but be good, because it is ordained by the Shastras and the Shastras cannot be wrong. I have urged so much on the adverse side of this attitude, not because the religious sanctity is grounded on scientific basis, nor to help those reformers who are preaching against it. క్రైస్తవ మతం అస్ప్రుశ్యులుగా పుట్టిన వారి బాధను,పీడనను తొలగించడంలో సాధకంగా పనిచేసిందా? అస్ప్రుశ్యులెవరైనా క్రైస్తవం లోకి మారిన పిదప పబ్లిక్ బావి నుంచి నీరు తోడుకొన్నారా? లెదా తమ పిల్లలను పబ్లిక్ పాఠశాలలో చేర్పించగలిగారా? హోటల్ లో ప్రవేశించగలిగారా? ఏ వివక్షత లేకుండా ప్రభుత్వ కార్యాలయాల్లో ప్రవేశించగలిగారా? సవర్ణులతో ఒకే ఇంట ఉండటం గాని,గ్రామాలలో నడిబొడ్డున నివాస చేసుకొని జీవించగలడా? అస్ప్రుశ్యుల నుండి సవర్ణ హిందువులు నీరు తాగుతారా? కలసి తింటారా? అస్ప్రుశ్యుడిని తాకితే స్నానం చేయకుండా ఉంటారా? ఆ ప్రశ్నలన్నిటికి సమాధానం కాదనేది ఉంట్టుందని నా ఖచ్చితమైన అభిప్రాయం. మరో మాటలో చెప్పాలంటే మంతాంతీకరణ అంటరాని వారి జీవితంలో ఏ విధమైన సమాజమార్పును తీసుకు రాలేదు. సాధారణ హిందూ ప్రజానీకుల దృష్టిలో క్రైస్తవం పుచ్చుకున్న వారైనా అస్ప్రుశ్యులుగానే మిగిలిపోతారు.
మతాంతీకరణ చెందిన అంటరానివారి సామాజిక హోదాను క్రైస్తవం ఎందుకు పెంచలేకపోయింది? ఈ వైఫల్యానికి కారణాలేమిటి?
నేను ఇచ్చే కారణాలు ఈ సమస్య పైన స్పందించే వారందరికీ కి అంగీకారంగా ఉండకపోవచ్చు అయినప్పటికీ ఏ మేరకు వీటి విలువ ఉన్న నేను తెలపదలచు కున్నాను.
నా అభిప్రాయాలు తెలుసుకొని అభినందించాలంటే ఒకటి మాత్రం స్పష్టం. మతాంతీకరణ చెందిన వారి సమాజ హోదాలో మార్పు మరో రెండు విధాల మార్పుల ఫలితంగా ఉంట్టుంది.
ఒకటి హిందువుల స్వభావంలో మార్పు రావాలి. రెండవది మతాంతీకరణ చెందినవారి మనో దృక్పథంలో మార్పు రావాలి. హోదా ఇరువైపులకు సంభందించినటువంటిది.
ఇద్దరు వ్యకుల అంతరంగ స్వభావానికి కట్టుబడి ఉండేది. ఒక్కొక్కరు తమ గత అవగాహన స్థితి నుండి మారితే తప్ప మార్పుకు అవకాశం లేదు. క్రైస్తవ వ్యాప్తికి సమాధానాల్ని వెదుక్కోవడంలోనే అస్ప్రుశ్యత నుండి క్రైస్తవులు గా మారిన వారి స్థితిగతులు మారకపోవడానికి హోదా పెరగకపోవడానికి? గల పరిస్థితులను అవగాహన చేసుకోవచ్చు.
ఈ ప్రశ్న వివిధ దశలుగా ఆలోచిద్దాము.హిందువులు ఉన్నత దిశగా చేరుకోవటానికి క్రైస్తవం ఏమి చేసింది? ఏం చేసినట్లు నాకు దాఖలాలు లేవు. ఎంతసేపు వారు ఎదో అద్భుతాన్ని సాధించడమనే భావనలో ఉన్నట్లుగానే అనిపిస్తుంది.
రోమన్ సామ్రాజ్యంలో బానిసత్వం క్రైస్తవ మతం వల్లనే నశించిందా? అనే ప్రశ్న వస్తుంది. క్రైస్తవం ఒక సంస్థాగత ఏర్పాటుగా వందల సంవత్సరాలుగా యూరోపు లో కొనసాగిన పిదప కూడా బానిస వ్యవస్థ కూడా సమాంతరంగా కొనసాగుతూ వచ్చింది. అమేరికాలో నీగ్రోల బానిసత్వాన్ని నిర్మూలించడానికి క్రైస్తవం మాత్రమే సరిపోదు. క్రైస్తవుల చేత తిరస్కరించబడిన స్వేచ్చను నీగ్రోలు పొందటానికి అంతర్యుద్దం రావాలి.
అందువల్ల ఒక భావనను ప్రవేశపెట్టి అది అద్భుతాలు సృష్టిస్తుందని గాలికి వదిలేసిన క్రైస్తవ మత ప్రచారకులే అస్ప్రుశ్యులు అస్ప్రుశ్యులుగా కొనసాగడానికి కారణం.దీనికి ఏ క్రైస్తవ మత విశ్వాసాన్ని ఆచరించినా స్థితి ఏకరూపమే. ఈ ప్రశ్నకు సంబంధించిన మరోక భాగంపై దృష్టిని సారించాలి.
క్రైస్తవం అస్పృశ్యులు ఎదగడానికి ఉపకరిస్తుందా అంటే, సమాధానం ""లేదు"" అని చెప్పాల్సి ఉంటుంది.

One thing I want to impress upon you is that Manu did not give the law of Caste and that he could not do so. Caste existed long before Manu. He was an upholder of it and therefore philosophised about it, but certainly he did not and could not ordain the present order of Hindu Society. His work ended with the codification of existing caste rules and the preaching of Caste Dharma. The spread and growth of the Caste system is too gigantic a task to be achieved by the power or cunning of an individual or of a class. Similar in argument is the theory that the Brahmins created the Caste. After what I have said regarding Manu, I need hardly say anything more, except to point out that it is incorrect in thought and malicious in intent. The Brahmins may have been guilty of many things, and I dare say they were, but the imposing of the caste system on the non-Brahmin population was beyond their mettle. They may have helped the process by their glib philosophy, but they certainly could not have pushed their scheme beyond their own confines. To fashion society after one’s own pattern! How glorious! How hard! One can take pleasure and eulogize its furtherance; but cannot further it very far. The vehemence of my attack may seem to be unnecessary; but I can assure you that it is not uncalled for. There is a strong belief in the mind of orthodox Hindus that the Hindu Society was somehow moulded into the framework of the Caste System and that it is an organization consciously created by the Shastras. Not only does this belief exist, but it is being justified on the ground that it cannot but be good, because it is ordained by the Shastras and the Shastras cannot be wrong. I have urged so much on the adverse side of this attitude, not because the religious sanctity is grounded on scientific basis, nor to help those reformers who are preaching against it. Preaching did not make the caste system; neither will it unmake it. My aim is to show the falsity of the attitude that has exalted religious sanction to the position of a scientific explanation.

బ్రాహ్మణులే ఈ కులతత్త్వానికి మూలం అనే విద్వేష, బూటకపు భావజాలాన్ని, మనువే కులవ్యవస్థకి మూలం అనే తప్పుడు అవగాహనని, సమాజంలో కులాల కుంపట్లు మరింత ఎగదోయడానికి తప్పితే పీడితజనోద్ధరణకు, స్వావలంబనకు హేట్రెడ్ రాజకీయ లక్ష్యాలతో తీసిన ఏ సినిమా ఉపకరించదు. ఈ అమానుష కులవ్యవస్థకు కారణం బ్రాహ్మణులు కారు, మనువూ కాదు, ఏ స్మృతీ కాదు, ఏ రాజూ కాదు, శాసనమూ కాదు అని అంబేడ్కర్ తాను కొలంబియా యూనివర్శిటీకి సమర్పించిన తన పెిహెచ్ డి పరిశోధనా పత్రంలో స్పష్టంగా పేర్కొన్నారు. అంబేడ్కర్ పరిశీలన: కులవ్యవస్థకి మూలం మనువు కాదు, బ్రాహ్మణులు కాదు. ఇంత మహావిస్తారమైన కులవ్యవస్థని ఏర్పాటు చేయడం ఏ ఒక్క మనిషి వల్లనో, ఏ ఒక్క గ్రంథం వల్లనో, ఏ ఒక్క స్మృతి వల్లనో, ఏ ఒక్క కులం, పురోహితవర్గం వల్లనో అయ్యే పని కాదు. ఈ విషయమై ఆయన కొలంబియా యూనిర్శిటీకి యిచ్చిన థీసిస్ పేపర్….
One thing I want to impress upon you is that Manu did not give the law of Caste and that he could not do so. Caste existed long before Manu. He was an upholder of it and therefore philosophised about it, but certainly he did not and could not ordain the present order of Hindu Society. His work ended with the codification of existing caste rules and the preaching of Caste Dharma. The spread and growth of the Caste system is too gigantic a task to be achieved by the power or cunning of an individual or of a class. Similar in argument is the theory that the Brahmins created the Caste. After what I have said regarding Manu, I need hardly say anything more, except to point out that it is incorrect in thought and malicious in intent. The Brahmins may have been guilty of many things, and I dare say they were, but the imposing of the caste system on the non-Brahmin population was beyond their mettle. They may have helped the process by their glib philosophy, but they certainly could not have pushed their scheme beyond their own confines. To fashion society after one’s own pattern! How glorious! How hard! One can take pleasure and eulogize its furtherance; but cannot further it very far. The vehemence of my attack may seem to be unnecessary; but I can assure you that it is not uncalled for. There is a strong belief in the mind of orthodox Hindus that the Hindu Society was somehow moulded into the framework of the Caste System and that it is an organization consciously created by the Shastras. Not only does this belief exist, but it is being justified on the ground that it cannot but be good, because it is ordained by the Shastras and the Shastras cannot be wrong. I have urged so much on the adverse side of this attitude, not because the religious sanctity is grounded on scientific basis, nor to help those reformers who are preaching against it. Preaching did not make the caste system; neither will it unmake it. My aim is to show the falsity of the attitude that has exalted religious sanction to the position of a scientific explanation.
