    Ryan, I just love these 10 minute paintings. I really like how you explain how to do each step. I followed along with you on one of your longer videos of some cherry blossoms and a stream. Keep up the good work and thanks for mixing it up with shorter videos.

    AMAZING!!!! Thanks sooo much. I learned Alot! For anyone who enjoys painting...I'll share a quick story. About 9 months ago I started spending time with an artist....with incrediable talent. I started 'simple'. (painting rocks) as the relationship continued we/I expanded mediums using designs cut out of wood like butterflies, words, & dolphins. So fun! During this process I discovered I LOVE PAINTING. Ok...this is coming from 'someone' who thought she could barely make stick figures. Desire plus technique equates to Incrediable Enjoyment + Expression!!! One of the things I had to overcome was 'doing it right'. My friend would always tell me 'if you dont like it, paint again'. Lol. Recently In the middle of painting an ocean scene with reefs & coral..I took a picture..(I was astounded I could paint this pic) to show a co-worker. One of her clients was present and saw the pic and immediately said "I want it" ...I choked!! We agreed on a price...he said "don't undersale" yourself, and offered more $. Signing off...........".Flabbergasted"

    I'm so happy I found your videos! Thank you. I had painted a mountain scene years ago, but just got back into painting.Decided to fix my many major amateur works of crap! I'm my best critic! 😄.well now you showed me how to fix my mountains and surrounding trees. I just blackened it all out except for the sky, then started from blackness. Even the black made it look so much more realistic.😄. I want it to be a twilight scene. But having trouble adding light to the pine trees. But I know I will find how to among your videos.your artwork is superb!

My problem is why my blending is patchy, and where the paint should be used thick, where thin, should we use water or no!!!?? I am waiting for ur replies. And inspired to paint by following ur lessons!!!! 🙏 A big thank you sir!!!! Uma

    Ryan O'Rourke - Artist, I love your 10 minute paintings. I follow along and attempt one each week. I feel like I am learning a lot. Have you thought of doing a desert scene? Also, I have a strange request, have you thought of doing one with the canvas turned the other way? (portrait instead of landscape). I like to put my finished works on shelves and could use one standing the tall way. :) just a silly thought. Thank you again for sharing your talent and helping us learn!

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That you for the wonderful message; It's great to hear that you're practicing these weekly! I've actually wanted to work on a vertical piece for quite a while. However, these videos are shot in 1920/1080 which means framing the piece is dimensionaly difficult. There is a lot of wasted space in the frame and I find the video thumbnails difficult to craft as I have to cut out 2/3rds of the painting. If I ever find an aesthetically pleasing way to display it I will happily do some vertical lessons :)

      The smaller size of paintings are smaller to store, quicker to get ideas out on the canvas, easy to paint in a day (vs. spending a week on it) and is also great for testing colour palettes!

    Do you use water everytime u put that brush on the canvas will i mess up a painting if i forget to add water in certain parts
    Thats the hardest part for me is figuring out whr water is needed when painting

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most part I like to keep my brush damp throughout the entirety of the process. Keeping the brush damp extends the wet life of the paint and allows me to drag paint farther.

    Hi. Can water paints be mixed with acrylics if we happen to run out of a certain colour in acrylic? I know water paints are thinner, but can they be used without water is needed?

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people like to create mixed media paintings which are made from varying mediums. This can include both acrylic and water color paints. However, it is important to note that they will create different textures and have different sheens.

      I generally use pencil crayons as they don't dilute the paint like charcoal/graphite. I also used a fine tipped sharpie for the trees in the foreground here so that I could see the outline under a thin layer of paint.
