Great vid Bruce, as always. I have a question: at around 4:00 min you connect a cable direct to the battery to charge it. What cable is this and where can I get one please? [thumbsup]
Hello Retro, Thanks for liking the vid, the cable is the battery charging cable which comes with the spare/extended life battery. It came with the whole kit. Cheers 👍
Great Video. Fantastic bit of kit. Quality is very good and I have set mine up so it can charge whilst recording therefor able to record 4k all day long.
2020 / FEB 20 -- I bought a 4K model - it failed - it took many months for drift to authorize a replacement - it took months to send a replacement - They are extremely slow to reply to emails - they promised to send me 2 accessories because of unexpected shipping charges - but months have passed and the promised items have not arrived. Their customer service is absolutely horrible - good luck if you buy one and it has a problem.
+shlllong Thanks bud, it’s getting there slowly. Seems to have hit a bit of a stunt in growth over the last month or so, but I’m not riding just now so it’s to be expected I suppose. How’s you?
Good mate it will grow I’m sure. If only your editing was as good on the trip. Honestly it’s really come on. Well done. Hope your not getting bed sores!:)
+james fisher Thank James, aye I’m going a little bit daft not riding, I feel like an addict on withdrawal! The insurance has now paid out for the bike so it’s just a question of waiting for an operation, recovery, and then getting back in the saddle. I reckon it’ll be about Feb/March before I’m riding again. Just in time for the new reg 😁😉👍
Quality vid pal. Some nice features there although definately seems like some issues that need looked at. I like the nice bag it comes in which make transporting secure. 😁
+Minion Ninja16 Yeah it’s a good bit of kit that, but I think it only comes with his adventure pack? Aye there are a few issues to iron out for sure, I’m off out filming tomorrow so will see how it goes 👍
Thanks for the informative video Bruce. Am a little concerned by the issues you’ve raised but hoping these will be overridden by the quality of footage you are going to test. Have to say that I am impressed by the size and shape of the 4K, it doesn’t look much bigger than my Interphone Tour and would balance well on the other side of my helmet. Some of those Go Pros look huge and ungainly when attached to helmets. Look forward to the next instalment. Cheers, Andy
+Andrew Tofts Thanks Andy, it is an incredibly compact and stylish little unit. I’m out filming properly tomorrow so looking forward to seeing what it can do 👍
Nice video Bruce! It seems like a nice bit of kit, although looks to be a right faff! Others have had a similar experience. I like the style of the drifts, but will be sticking to the gopro4 black for now. How's the arm healing? Best wishes on that front! Hope you're back on two wheels soon. :)
+Christopher Gothard Hi Chris, yeah it does seem like a lot of fiddling about to get it initially setup, and it doesn’t seem to be very user friendly in startup. However I’m out filming with it more today and starting to warm to it more. Looking forward to checking the footage on the Mac screen to see what it’s like. 👍
+Christopher Gothard Ha Ha, that certainly wasn’t my desk! I had to search high and low for space to get that shot, my desk is overflowing with ‘stuff’! 👍
Hi ya, ok no time to see the next video got to go to wk. So whats your overall view on it is there any gliches? is it worth the money? it is very expensive. The xl is sold out and it looks like its going to be discontinued, I think. Jeepers I just seen this is 2017 review!!!!! Im so far behind.
+burnley jack Hi Jack, thanks a lot bud, glad you’re enjoying the vids. No I’ve not done one on editing yet, I don’t think I’m proficient enough as yet to do that. It takes me DAYS to do a vid so you wouldn’t want to copy my workflow! I’m going to the NEC on the 21st mate so if you see me come and say hello 👍
I don’t use the Drifts anymore bud, I went back to GoPro as the Drift cameras are just terrible now sadly. I use 256gb cards and film at 2.7k or 4k, both at 60fps for onbike stuff. 256gb is fine for a days riding
@@teapotone Shame, I just bought one then. It only supports 128gb so maybe I should buy one or two more. I'm off to Portugal next weekend and will be experimenting while away. I bought an Insta 360 too so have a lot to learn
+Edward Leniston I know, seemed a ridiculous amount of faffing about before I even got the camera out and about! First impressions are... well I’ll have to keep that for the next vid 😉👍
Why oh why are action cam companies moving to usb audio? GoPro you have to have battery door open and a usb c adaptor now this crap with drift..... KEEP IT 3.5mm!!!
If I remember right, I think it was possibly screwed in at the Base plate? I do remember that there’s a bit of nak to getting the actual case open to to access the camera. I’m away from home at the mo so can’t check with the one I Have I’m afraid, sorry
Not edited it yet bud, will be doing one in the next few months. Basically, don’t bother with the Ghost 4K, plenty better cameras for your money. Battery life is fantastic on the Ghost 4K and it’s physical form is better in my opinion, but it’s still not reliable, the remote is utterly useless, the external mic setup is ridiculous (but so is the GoPro) and the image quality is terrible when compared to others available out there. I’ve moved back to GoPro now with the amazing Hero7 - stunning vid quality and class leading stabilisation.
I’ve had mine freeze a couple of times on me when it gets very hot, very frustrating when you’re riding as you have to stop and take the battery out to free it up again! However I’m still loving the stabilisation and picture quality 👍
interesting that the mini USB connection is on the top.... water ingress may be an issue there. appreciate that this could be turned the other way but and IMHO, not the best place to have a mic connection. Much better set up on the Ghost S.
+Flaming T No it is on the bottom, it’s just that I have the Ghost-S on the right side of my lid, so I put the Ghost 4K on the left, meaning the ports are pointing up. However, having them along the side of the unit like this, rather than at the back - like the Ghost-S, is a big concern of mine as I think it’ll lead to water ingress etc, as you say. Time will tell. 👍
+Square Peg Round Hole It very much reminded me of the early GoPro’s when I was trying to set it up, really temperamental. I can’t see how they go it so right with the Ghost-S, yet the 4K version is still so delicate in its software?
This camera looks the dugz bawz Bruce.....apart from a wee bit of footering aboot with the phone bit. Better than that pish I bought fae GoPro. How was it in low light conditions when your pal was oot Dogging in his Porsche Boxter? (That’s what Boxter owners get up to, isn’t it?)
Good overvirew. Still don't know why they still use mini-usb rather than micro or usb-c when the world has moved on, oh well. And not waterproof? It might edge the Ghost S for new buyers but I think I'll be waiting until my Ghost S kicks the bucket before considering upgrading. Cheers!
+Grumpy Bike Wizard On the Setup alone, I wouldn’t buy this camera I think. The Ghost-S is just such a good all round utility Cam, I’ve no idea why they went with the design style they have with the 4K?! If they’d just kept the Ghost-S housing and features, then built the 4K, dual mic festival res etc into that, it’d be great. But so far the 4K is just full of software errors and glitches. I’m out tomorrow thanks try a full proper day’s filming with it, so will see how that goes?
Take a look at the field of view specs at 4k, it's a much narrower field of view so a lot of lads who have the camera thus far are running it at 1080p as it's a bit fish-eye at 4K. Enjoy!
+Grumpy Bike Wizard Yeah will don’t Grumpy, ta. I’m off out with it tomorrow to do some filming again, as the Porsche Day was a bit of a disaster! You’ll see in the next vid in this series! 👍
I considered buying the Drift 4K because of the form factor and the quality of Richy Vida's videos, but decided against it after seeing so many people online having trouble with it. The retailer for my country listed on the Drift website even stopped selling them because of all the issues...
I have a love/hate affair thing going off with Drift. The S is a superb camera. A huge leap forward from the Ghost. The battery lasts forever and I have absolutely battered mine, and she keeps on going like a trooper. A real work horse. The image, although very good, infuriates me. The sensor can't handle contrast very well, and the moire on straight lines is so bad. Such a shame it falls (way) short of the almost perfect GoPro Hero 5 image. That said, I use it every day. I'm not interested in using the GP on my helmet, even though it is hands down a better camera, the battery doesn't last, and the mic adapter... let's not even go there! The Drift 4K.... Hmmm.. Seems all I hear in reviews, is how temperamental it is. I don't like the stupid module thing, and really don't like the mic attachment. I have always been a Drift user. Stealth, HD, Ghost, Ghost-S... , so I guess I'm just disappointed with this new 'flagship'. I just want to throw it on the lid, shoot beautifully clean footage, forget about it and be confident that it has done all I ask of it. I'm yet to see any footage from the 4K that impresses me! Yours sincerely A. DisgruntledVlogger haha Wow, I'm usually easy going. Nowt get's my goat like stroppy tech stuff! ;-)
+RichyVida 100% there with you Rich. The potential of the camera is huge, but the software and general design is full of flaws making it unreliable at first glance. I’m determined to give it a good go though, so not giving in yet! 👍
Hi Bruce. As you say 'the new Ghost 4K remote strap is not long enough to go over a bike glove or jacket sleeve', have you tried pairing the Ghost 4K with the Ghost S remote, would be good if it did then you could run both cameras from the same remote. Look forward to see what video/sound quality you get from the 4K.
Let us know if it does or not. I too am of the bike at the moment and once back on the bike I am thinking about upgrading from a Ghost S to a Ghost 4K as my Ghost S has ceased working, but need to see some good reviews about it first before I commit.
Have just been looking around for a ghost HD or S but nothing about ,or I can't find any , don't fancy the 4K , don't like the fact you have to pay extra £50 for the screen and the fact it needs a waterproof case that's before all the glitch's , good review as always ,
+Brian Jones there are some on eBay I’ve found bud. I was thinking of getting a spare myself. Yep they are a lot of the concerns I have with the 4K initially, I’ll be addressing them in future vids in the series to see if they warrant the concern or not 👍

teapotone I suppose if it’s a simple case of switch on and record after the first set up out the box then fair enough , I must admit tho , the image quality is outstanding. I’m just not great with technical stuff lol
Couldn't agree more, had two in the last 72 hours, first wouldn't charge the modules and the LCD would not work. Replacement turned on in the shop, when i got it home would not charge or turn on. Total rubbish. Gone back to my S. At least i have the confidence that will work. Really poor development from Drift.
+Wilswood#69 Yeah I’m not in love with it either to be fair. There’s a lot of bits that just feel like an afterthought at the moment. I’m hoping some constant use will swing me back towards it.
The app has always been shite. The hardware is fine, but they're not great interface designers. that firmware upgrade process was really tiresome, can't you download the file to a card like before? I can't understand why they let the wrist-strap design go through it is seemingly only designed for small surfers. The buttons have been streamlined into the unit - which totally ignores the use-case which is wearing gloves. you'll struggle faffing with those buttons guaranteed
The Drift company has absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They take months and months to take care of any problems. And they take months to reply to emails. I have had two defective cameras from them and it has taken a year to get any satisfaction and I continue to have one defective camera now.
That’s so disappointing to hear bud, I really don’t know what happened to the company as it used to be excellent in my opinion. That new Ghost 4K seemed to mark a monumental downfall for the entire brand?! It’s doubly gutting as they’re a British company and I’d love to support them, but their products suck at present 🤦♂️
I'm interested in maybe buying this camera but your video didn't help me because there were no real-world use. You basically just go over what you get and what you could use it for. I would like at least a sample video or sample photos , since you know, that is what matters in the end :)

Such a shame isn’t it, they were set to rule the motovlogging market but have really scored an own goal 😔
I’d say it’s an average sized unit… 2:18
Great video , have to say i don't like the mic cable . Seems very poor with that God ugly jack , that's why I moved away from GoPro
+Andy Parker 100% agree Andy. I just can not understand how this design got through the early scruttineering and R&D processes?
The Drift company has absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They take months and months to take care of any problems. And they take months to reply to emails. I have had two defective cameras from them and it has taken a year to get any satisfaction and I continue to have one defective camera now.
That’s so disappointing to hear bud, I really don’t know what happened to the company as it used to be excellent in my opinion. That new Ghost 4K seemed to mark a monumental downfall for the entire brand?!
It’s doubly gutting as they’re a British company and I’d love to support them, but their products suck at present 🤦♂️
@@teapotone The customer service department needs one person to respond to emails. That could easily be a part time job for someone.
I'm interested in maybe buying this camera but your video didn't help me because there were no real-world use. You basically just go over what you get and what you could use it for. I would like at least a sample video or sample photos , since you know, that is what matters in the end :)
Ed you’ve obviously not seen the other vids in this playlist
