To solve the mystery of the instruction manual you must view it upside down in the mirror upon a cga display adapter while wearing 3D glasses and citing the pledge of allegiance backwards in french.
You really Need that bottom bearing to stop the blade from twisting and wandering , without it the blade will bind in the wood and stall the motor. You may find the bandsaw underpowered if you try to almost double the cutting thickness too Hope this helps
Next time you go to Harbor Freight you may want to get one of their $20 carpenter planes. Then you grind the iron with a 10" radius and you have a decent scrub plane for making rough wood flat and square.
Harbor freight's chinglish instructions have always been open to interpretation by the owner. Lol Like most of harbor freight's tools and equipment, they aren't the greatest, but for their price range they get the job done pretty well. I bought a belt sander that had a design flaw I had to modify to make it easier to change the belt, I have a video about it on my channel
just got their 2hp dust collector, all the parts in the instructions were referenced by part number. there was no explanation about what number refereed to what part -___-
I find the bandsaw to be the best all-around saw. Be careful using the riser block, (even though Delta designed it for that, it is sketchy at best, and HF doesn't make it better) 14" of cutting in wet wood - as you will be doing - demands a tremendous amount of power. Even your 9" cut on the log essentially stopped the saw. Continued success with your adventures. PS, all wood dust is toxic - in your lungs. There is no mechanism for getting it out of the micro passages.
quick little helpful critiques- rigidity will become a problem if you're wanting to resaw larger logs, especially hardwood. you'll need a larger blade with a few tpi count which will require far more blade tension so as not to slip, additonally a fractional hp motor with a single v-belt will likely slip with that existing method for belt tensioning. Last is the fact that you'll very quickly run out of power from that motor as it's likely a half horse which doesn't equate to that much cutting capacity. Also bear in mind that that motor likely isn't a continuos duty motor even though it might say so AND it likely has a service factor of 1.0 which would mean that without stalling it you could be overloading it (because the ultimate torque a motor can produce is not it's rated HP). food for thought
Rinoa's Auspicious Travails obviously, but you made it sound like you’d be using it on that thickness of stuff regularly. And I think you’re underestimating how slow you’re feed rate will be, especially whiteout getting tons of blade deflection.
The blade you have on the bandsaw at the moment is probably a little thin for bigger straighter cuts. When you're cutting the logs up, a 3/4" or 1" blade if the wheels are big enough,with hook teeth, at about 2 or 3 tpi (which looks like the tooth stup on the blade you have, in fairness)
Go with the 6 inch riser block, 100 to 150 bucks for a kit. You will need a longer blade anyway, so get a half inch with about 3 to 5 TPI. The one you have is a fine tooth. You need that lower bearing block to support the blade. Also for 25 bucks you can get a new set of rubber for the wheels. That will get you the results you are looking for.
I ended up making my own riser block. It unlocked a lot of potential, but this bandsaw is so cheap and underpowered that it wasnt worth it in the end. Definitely a good tool upgrade to keep around for when I want to cut long stuff
I see you have an old drill press. Do you know the brand and year of it? I have one that looks identical to yours. As near as I can tell mine is Montgomery Wards ,1939.Still works good but is more of a collectors item.

That looks like the equivalent to pulling a 33' camping trailer with a Ford Focus. Way to small and under powered. Please keep your fingers and hair away from the moving parts. I saw a classmate get hair a little to close and it kept pulling it till the scalp ripped off their head. Be safe
This is identical to my old 14" bandsaw that I bought at a show. In a pinch, I made a blade guide that fit into the top housing for those tall resaw jobs. woodgears.ca/bandsaw/resaw_guide.html Got up to 8", but only when resawing boards.
You build machines out of Miscellaneous parts, and you had a bit of trouble with it. I can’t imagine how much trouble a normal person would have with this thing. Btw, what is the nominal brand on this infernal contraption
You bought something new? I'm so disappointed :-) Years ago I bought a HF metal cutting bandsaw. It has a table and can go vertical like yours. I lost the table.
When I watch you it scared me it’s only meant for smaller cuts your be better of using a chainsaw to cut the blocks smaller and tidy them up with the plate back on also you cans speed it up . Stay safe keep your fingers out the way lol

oh i have a few planes already, i just dont really find they fit my workflow just yet.
The size of the bite is proportional to the horsepower of the machine. You may damage the unit if you try for a 9" cut
this machine is designed to take a 12" cut with the extender they sell.
Rinoa's Auspicious Travails no worries but be careful, a 12” cut would be for soft wood.

i wont be cutting wet wood. my 9" cut didnt stop the saw at all, the log got stuck on the edge of the table.
Move the pulleys around so you can get more speed? Wouldn't that help with the zippin through wood fast enough issue...

My craftsman 12” tilting head bandsaw gave up the ghost so I upgraded to a HF 14” bandsaw, what a piece of sh.. Saving up for a Jet 14”.
