Thank you for this. Highly informative. I have been practicing for the last 35 years + but always good (and necessary) to revist the core principles of your discipline. I will atttempt to acces all your other videos. Great work and thank you.
Its been 3 consecutive days and been watching your quite informative videos non stop. I must say I feel like I have attained a degree in QS. I am a CM who decided to fly solo and I must say that learning from you will definitely have a huge impact on the small construction company that I am running. Thank you and keep doing what you're doing.
Thank you brother and appreciate your kind feedback. Such comments, support, and amazing people like you are the only reason I’m continuing. Thank you again and wish you all the best with your company.
Is SMM7 still used ? Totally useless document for today's major construction projects where the Contractors price is an actual cost (ie inclusive of items known as sub contractors dayworks). In a competitive single stage contract the contractor will deduct a % in his sub contract orders to pay for BOQ shortcomings. But in an actual cost Contract the items not covered by SMM7 are included in the Contractors price. Prelims is another problematic area as Quantity Surveyors don't understand them.
Thanks for the general yet detailed explanation! I'm a newly licensed civil engineer, and I'm currently deciding between pursuing being a site engineer and being a quantity surveyor (I only have prior site experience from internship of vertical structures and also some off-site knowledge of construction methods). I'm so glad I found your channel! I plan to binge all relevant videos on your channel and also ask some of my former professors to help me decide which path would be better for me. I'm now more aware how daunting and challenging the position of a quantity surveyor can be, and I definitely plan to acquire the skillset required to become a competent one so I can have more opportunities in the future. Thanks again!
Secret #1 is the base of all secrets if you know how to read drawings and understands the scope of work, you can easily make other secrets feasible. Very informative video
There isn't much content on TH-cam for Quantity Surveyors. Thank you for this. It is an ego-filled industry, it's refreshing to see someone sharing pertinent elementary information freely and widely. BarakAllahu feekum.
I'm a mechanical engineer and thinking about switching into Mechanical QS engineer. I have no idea about QS at all. Yours videos are great learning source for me thankyou so much. one more thing is that i have 1 year of experience as mechanical engineer. I should choose Planning Engineer or Mechanical QS Engineer??
Thank you for the comment Syed, the channel has videos that covered some of these knowledge areas and we will add more videos to cover the remaining in the upcoming videos.
Thank you for uploading this video. Sir i need to know i am civil engineer working in uae as site engineer and i have 3 year + experience will it I become QS
Thank you for watching and wish you all the best🙏. You can become anything you want as you choose your career path. But if if you want to change career you need to work on getting the required skills 👍
Prelim Detail Abstract@PDA would be prepared by Costing Engineer@Quantity Surveyor for every project in the world today. They are expert in 5M costing measurement & management which are the basis of any project. (5M = Man power, machinery, material, money & mintes/time).
What a complete load of nonsense; I’m a QS with 21 years experience. These are not secrets… these are basic requirements you are taught at uni/ college.
@James G true, knowledge of construction technology, health and safety are also very important elements that can impact projects’ costs. Contracts should also define the roles and responsibilities of performing parties to cover the concerns related to safety and well-being of construction work environment. These are actually very good future video ideas. I’ll compile some detailed information on these points. Thank you for the addition.
@James G communication skills are very important that in order to become CCP, it is not enough to pass the exam but also to write and pass the technical paper, which aims only towards measuring the communication skills. Importance totally agreed. 👍
Cad's not accurate it's not the weapon sometimes but the user. I think you may not be good at cad too. Not that I have issues using anything else but you started on shaky grounds there pal.
