  • Take a virtual tour of the new Louisville VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky. On Veterans Day, November 11, 2021, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) broke ground on the new 972,000 square foot medical center project. VA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Louisville District, will build the new 104 bed, full-service hospital, which will provide world-class healthcare to more than 45,000 Veterans. In addition to the new medical facility, the project includes parking structures, a central utility plant, roadways, sidewalks, and other site improvements.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District is honored to be working alongside our VA partners to bring this much-deserved, state-of-the-art facility to fruition for our Veterans.

The hospital is only as good as the people working there. Will they be there to actually serve the veterans? Are they there only to draw a paycheck?

Looking at Robley Rex vs this whatever it is I see the bed count is actually going down. Robley Rex opened in 1952 with 494 beds and in later years went down to 133. This new site with the ageing old vet population and the increasing numbers thanks to the Middle East wars and likelihood of a Ukraine war is only going to have 104 beds?

104 beds? That doesn't seem enough.

It is less than the current hospital, Robley Rex.

840 million dollars for 104 beds? That is more than 8 million dollars per bed. No wonder healthcare in this country is unaffordable.

It's not just for in patient care. They have doctors offices and testing centers in there also.

Looks like it is being planned for something other than a hospital...Too much walking, too much open areas, security machines and vendor stalls that have no place in a VA hospital, not one look at an actual office and its size vs the old hospital sitting on the very desirable real estate on Zorn.... All of this new hospital is in a flood plain....How did that get overlooked? I will bet with a year of opening other activities outside normal VA hospital business will start being hosted after the first flood and the hospital has to move again leaving this really nice commercial building and site for someone else...
