      He is definitely a Houdini. However in the first clip of him, he should've been called out because he went onto the grass to avoid the tag. But was still fun to watch.

    1:36 The only time in my entire life that I have LOL uncontrollably watching baseball! A pickle between first and second becomes a pickle between third and home...and they _don't_ make the out! It's so unexpected that it's _hilarious_!

    • @rickhaavisto9023
      @rickhaavisto9023 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uhhh...yes you can...the only rule with base paths is that a runner can’t deviate by 3 feet during a tag attempt...that’s it...

  • @ballfro28
    @ballfro28 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Here's a question, in the first video why isn't Hamilton out since he came off the bag and is to the left of the foul line while the first basemen is touching the base?

    • @coramoor3
      @coramoor3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ben Gladieux because he beat the first base man to the bag, so the force play is off now. If the runner comes off the base in fair territory, he's live but you have to tag him at that point.

    • @WhaTheHammmer
      @WhaTheHammmer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So in theory if the first baseman would have tagged him for the split second he was off the bag, he would have been out. If the first baseman didn't just leave his glove on the bag and tried to rage him. He woulda been out

      Damon watt no, I hate the pirates but that was the tight call, the baseline is established one the tag is attempted

    • @DAK4Blizzard
      @DAK4Blizzard 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      You're right, he was more than 3 feet outside. Part of the grass was okay, but he went too far into the grass. This video has a much better angle to confirm he went outside the baseline: m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v34094561/nympit-harrison-advances-to-third-on-long-rundown Go to 2.20 of the video. The helmet on the ground is a great reference. Let's be conservative and establish the baseline as even with the left edge of the helmet (it could be considered further left than that). At 2.25 of the video (when he's lying on grass), you can count 5 helmet-lengths to where Harrison ends up from the baseline. A helmet is at least 8 inches long, probably close to a foot. Another reference is 3B, which is 15 inches across. Conservatively, the baseline is even with the middle of that base (it could even be the left edge). Harrison ends up at least 3 bases to the right of that reference point. Finally, freeze the video at 2.23 when Harrison is diving toward the grass. Note how he ends up nearly an entire body length away from the baseline.

    • @SuperDuffyj
      @SuperDuffyj 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DAK4Blizzard the thing is, he gave up on the tag by the point his leg had gotten closest to leaving that baseline, since no tag was currently being attempted, there was no base line. And he got his arm back into previous baseline before his leg left.

    • @DAK4Blizzard
      @DAK4Blizzard 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jordan Duffy It doesn't matter whether Tejada gave up on following Harrison outside the baseline. (Granted, he should've just made the extra effort to actually tag him to avoid putting the call on the umpire's judgement.) To exaggerate my point, Harrison would not be absolved of leaving the baseline if he fled 15 feet to the outfield or pitcher's mound, and Tejada decided not to follow him. Whether a tag is attempted *after* the runner is outside an established baseline is moot.
      But you may have a point if all Harrison has to do is have any portion of his body (such as a hand) within 3 feet of the baseline. I'd still be very skeptical of that, especially because Harrison brings his hands back to his body right after the dive, probably making that concept moot as well. But at least it would allow for more leeway in judgement.

    Anyone mind to explain what is happening at 4:12 please? I don't know much about Baseball so i don't get what's going on on this one since the runner is touching the guy who got the ball before touching a base?

      Pretty sure it's because they called interference or obstruction because a player without the ball stood in the runners way blocking his path to first base which you're not supposed to do. The runner was just going to accept the out at that point, but the ump called interference or obstruction, which made him safe.

    0:33. He reached with the hand!and the ball wasn't in the hand!
    Argument: He reached with his glove and the all WAS in the glove

    This is a stupid question probably, but it looks like the taggers or the team base, I dont know baseball. It look likes they not even trying to tag them, like are they running fast because it looks slow like they are not even sprinting. When I was in Grade 5 to 8, I played baseball, and I hit the ball, way over the fence, but it was just outside local baseball field

    As a non-baseball fan, I don't get where you can run and where you can't run between 1st and 3rd base. I had assumed 'on the grass' was out of bounds for base running, but apparently not, according to the rundown at 6:30. They keep talking about staying within the 'base line', but what's that? I don't see any clear boundaries. Is it just eyeballed? How is this game played? Are the rules made up as you go along? Is a protractor involved? EDIT: nm, I read the thread below and I still don't really get it. :D

      There are no "established" boundaries once you pass first base until you reach third. The ruling states that the runner establishes the baseline by running in a path toward the intended base and that baseline is confirmed by the infielder when a tag is attempted. The reason is because when a play rounds first the personal momentum of the player can do a lot of things. The "open baseline" concept is there so that runners don't injure themselves trying to follow some arbitrary line drawn on the ground. The problem comes into play when you have a run down and the players start to bend those lines. When a tag is attempted it establishes a "direct" route between the runner and his intended target NOT from one base to another. Base running rules are some of the hardest and most misunderstood rules in baseball. (with the "ground rule/book rule double being a very close second.)
