  • ✨Welcome back everyone✨
✨I am so excited to share with you my first 30 days of learning a new language! I'm by no means trying to say that I've become fluent or even an upper beginner because Mandarin is very content heavy and I want to learn the writing system too! It's simply my journey with the language :)
✨I chose Mandarin because I've always wanted to speak, read and write the language just like Japanese! I also love the way it sounds too!
✨It's been a while since I've uploaded as I've not been very well, but I'm back! I hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions let me know in the comments or give me a shout on my Studygram :)

If you're gonna watch C dramas to learn Chinese, I'd recommend watching modern dramas than historical ones. Because in many historical dramas, they may use archaic language that isn't used widely nowadays :D

    Some tips✨
    1) For the layout of the characters, the box should have two lines, one going vertically and the other, horizontally in the middles, this allows the characters to be center and all of the chinese booklets for 3-10 in china have that layout.
    2) if your from america, its best to say 我是美国人, rather than saying 英国人 because that means your from the uk
Just a reminder, its the hardest language to learn and natives only know about half of the 80,000 words and still gets them wrong daily. So your doing great hunny 😩 im native and im not even nearly fluent yet

Hi Jazmine, I am not a native chinese in China. However, I am born as a chinese in Malaysia. Juz want to tell you that you are heading in the right direction in learning chinese. Chinese is no doubt the hardest language I have ever encounter ( I know and can speak fluently cantonese, chinese, english, malay and now a little bit of korean). This is because of the unique chinese character. (You can't really read them by words, unlike english, each of them are different, and each of them carries a different meaning)
I am very happy that's someone is interested in learning chinese, it's such a beautiful language (despite I definitely agree on the difficulty)
Keep it up ! I am sure that sooner or later you will be able to speak fluently in Chinese !!

Whatever you watch (and I love the Untamed too!) it's best to watch it on youtube - not because the subs are great (they're not) but because on top of the English there are subs in Hanzi - it's been great for me to recognize characters which I practiced and hear them pronounced too. Also, I've often paused the video and copied out the character to look it up online if I'm not sure. It's how I found out the many meanings of 'gǔn', haha.

    • @connie_83
      @connie_83 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@hatdoghatdog1570 I mean I'd say that maybe 2 or 3ish? Regardless, watching C-dramas will help regardless, if you're on beginner levels theres also loads of Chinese children's shows or dubs of english ones that you can listen to to help! My brother was learning mandarin (my family is chinese so he's the only one that doesn't know it yet) and he just watched the mandarin dub for My Little Pony on Netflix. It sounds rather silly but a lot of children's TV shows use language thats easy to understand and actually used!

Yasss! Someone else who reviews their Japanese while practicing Chinese! I started with numbers, and in some cases, contextually, I can understand a written sentence because of a Japanese Kanji! I know this doesn't always work due to there being a lot of characters that are the same, but have different meaning, but it definitely helped me to ease into the study of Chinese feeling like there was at least SOMETHING I knew! I might be adopting some of these techniques! Thank you for this video! ❤

I started teaching myself Chinese and Japanese together this month. So glad to see that the strategies I laid out for myself are what you are also doing. I stayed in China for a year but did not learn the language very well so when I got back home to Zimbabwe I thought of learning it myself. Then I realized how Japanese is similar to my mother tongue Shona so why not do both, it might take me long to learn but it's all good.

You’re so brave to learn Chinese and Japanese at the same time! At school I’m learning German and I constantly mix it up with Italian and Spanish 😰 Outside of school, I’m currently focusing on Japanese.
    頑張ってください!💖

I was born in America, during when i was a child there weren’t many chinese th shows I could watch like Ciaohu, it’s a chinese show for kids and the mascot is a tiger. My parents spoke different dialects. I also have a baby sitter who spoke Taitonese (didn’t spell that right) So i learned how to listen and adapt very quickly.
Although I can understand what they can say most of the time, i can’t speak mandarin very well because mandarin and cantonese sound the same to me so my mouth will say what ever is easiest on my mouth.
I was pushed to learned chinese when 11, i didn’t learn much because i felt that my chinese teachers were jumping subject tk subject way to fast. Also being around small children didn’t get my excited to learn.
I dropped out, my sister did too following me.
When seeing other people who speak my assumed language better than me, I feel ashamed. I regret not pushing myself, but when i did back then I would cry if i didn’t get it right. I would make myself frustrated that i wasn’t perfect.
Or seeing other chinese people reaching great highest when i’m below them, content. I do want to learn I truly do. Because I know I have an advantage, i can ask others around me yet I don’t use that advantage. Because if i try to start learning i’m afraid of getting things wrong and asking my parents and them ridiculing me. It makes me not want to learn.
I cant blame them, both my parents didn’t even get into highschool, I know they mean no harm. They don’t know how to parent well, because they aren’t parent well. So i’ve done my studies on my own, i’ve learned how to shut my feeling.
My sister she looks up to me as a mother figure because my mom is not. I can speak to her, she is annoying yes. I don’t understand her just as my mom doesn’t understand me.
The thing is my sister follows me right? So when i learn she learns that what my mom also tells me. Another reason for me to learn more because it will benefit my sister.
I always didn’t like this, i didn’t understand why my sister couldn’t do it on her own while my whole life i’ve done things myself. I didn’t ask teacher nor parents to help me understand things. I figured it by myself, so why doesn’t she have to?
It was selfish of me and i still think like this now. I’m ultimately ashamed of myself lot doing better.
I’m sorry this is me ranting about myself not hate to the creator you are doing
    great!
I’m 13 btw not an adult, but when i go to highschool i will try to get into the mindset of learning mandarin by myself. I hope that I won’t give up and half ass it.

i think learning languages is so fun + i’m learning multiple too so it makes me happy seeing others do it too! one thing i try to tell myself is it’ll take forever to be fluent & a lot of natives still get things incorrect & some of them will even tell you that. heck i’m an english native speaker & my grammar is still so bad lol moral of the story, no one is ever truly perfect in speaking a language, native or not.

This was a really nice video! Ive been learning mandarin at uni and this gonna be my third year of learning chines, i'll be getting soon intermediate certificate, however it is still quite hard for me to grasp the tones , especially when I want to speak faster . I think the grammar parts are quite difficult even though my tutor always says how chinese grammar is easier than english lol dont know about that...but yea I would say if someone actually wants to start learning it , dont worry and take it slow , this comes from a person that is fluent in 3 languages (dont want to brag about it lol) it actually takes a lot of years to get that solid intermediate level

Im a chinese! Really amazed by how accurate your pronunciation is and your persistence to work through all 30 days! Your chinese handwriting is also neat consider that you are just learning them! Happy for your achievement :D
Some C-dramas to recommend (I love watching chinese dramas):
    - 如此可爱的我们(ru ci ke ai de wo men) : a short series on the lives of a few high school students, really cute and funny
    - 微微一笑很倾城 (wei wei yi xiao hen qing cheng): a really popular chinese drama, i think the english name is love 020? Although the female actress is filled with controversy, this is still indeed a good drama.
There are more but I watch more historical dramas than modern dramas and I think it is easier to understand modern ones so Ill reco this two first. :D
All the best for your learning journey! Even though Im 5 months late haha

Not sure if you already knew this but there’s actually free writing practice sheets that you can find online. The website allows you to input whatever Chinese character you want and you can choose to have the sheets show you practice strokes or not, traditional Chinese etc. So it basically customisable and you can print/download.

FYI, Chinese words pronunciation has only 5 sound groups: yin, yang, shang, qu, and neutral. If you are interested to know more how these sounds created, you may search them from the Internet, or TH-cam: Chinese pinyin tone mark.
Note: If the sound of the words are pronounce wrong, it may bring another meaning. Beware of that.
