@@mywildlifeimages Certainly is! Bugger of a walk down to them though-especially if like me you have heart failure and it's the day after a deluge! Thank god for Seamus
Some beautiful images there Richard. An acquaintance of mine visited those hides and he also came away with some nice shots. I have only ever heard good impressions from there. I found the little piece discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of putting out food to be very interesting . Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Animals, and in that I include birds and mammals, are not self destructive fools. If a free handout is available they will take advantage of it but if for any reason the handout isn't there they aren't going to hang around and starve. No, they just get on with their lives and look elsewhere for their food. I had a hide at a local badger sett and from early spring to late summer i put out some peanuts every evening in order to photograph them in natural light. There were obviously days when I couldn't put any food out but it made no difference to their behaviour. Every evening I was in the hide they would hoover up the limited amount of nuts before setting off for a nights foraging. That particular hide was destroyed by a falling tree that came down in a storm and I have yet to rebuild it but the badgers are still there and doing well despite not getting their free aperitifs. Frankly, I think a lot of the people who decry putting out food are usually just repeating stuff they have heard and do not have the practical knowledge of wildlife to make their own informed opinion. I am no slave to this modern worlds ridiculous "politically correct" attitudes and I'm not afraid to say that most of these people are just talking out of their arse. Anyways, enough rambling on. Great video. Best wishes and good health to you and your family.
Thanks Robert. The last time I did a squirrel hide video I received a few comments from people saying 'I shouldn't feed them', so thought it was worth pointing a few things out in this one. That badger location sounds like it was great and I'm sorry to hear your hide no longer exists. I hope you get it sorted soon. I also want to say that I really appreciate your support and you offering us your best wishes. Take care, Rich
Greetings from the Isle of Man. Last August (2021) after our Covid restrictions were lifted we were able to get off the Island for the first time in two years and my wife bought me a one-to-one session with Paul as a belated birthday present. It was a fantastic experience; one I will never forget. Paul was the best you could expect, well organised, very helpful in a professional capacity and I will be going back for the badgers or owls soon. My wife says that she will not forget it either - as upon my return home I purchased a D500.
Hi Kevin, I’m chuffed to hear you had a great time and I know the coming home and explaining a new camera to the wife all too well 😂 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment too. I really appreciate it 😊
Thank you so much. Regarding slow motion, I just shoot on a high frame rate and that should work with any card in the camera. If you can’t find it in the settings, just drop me an email and I’ll help you out 👍
If photgograhic hides, help in re estaboishing native species then that can only be a good thing, i think hides are a part of that process, and its give photgorpahers and others a direct connection to nature and our environment.

that squirrel jumping over the pheasant is great! looks like a great spot
Thank you 😊
Nice video :-) If you crack the shell on a Hazelnut the Squirrel will not cache it but will normally eat it where it found it :-)
Thank you very much, both for watching and the tip! All the best 😊
Great video Rich, I never knew you got red squirrels in Yorkshire!

Lovely video again Richard. What video setting do you use on the 1Dx mk2 for slowmo and do you need specific memory card size/speed when doing slowmo?
Thank you so much.

A really fabulous vlog Richard. I didn't stop smiling throughout. You must have found it difficult to know where to point the camera 😀👍
Thanks Barry, that’s really appreciated and yes, it was at times 😊
