Can’t believe that some manufacturers still use Meranti timber frames for high end off road caravans.

JB will need to move to composite to survive. Timber vans are old news.

Not really Jo. People still want choice and still buy timber vans because of its versatility. Some of Australia's biggest manufacturers still build maranti timber vans and build them well.

@@grantcdmedia7085 Many new caravan punters would not have a clue 'what' their caravan walls are made from, .....until the arse falls out of their 4 year old van. Then they scream 'bloody rotten timber' !.

@@LocksmithSteve I'd be very surprised if punters did not research what it is they are buying before spending $60-70K on a new caravan and heaps of new caravans in Australia are still made with Maranti timber and when treated should not rot regardless of water damage. It's a choice really. Loads of people love timber vans mainly due to its versatility in certain climates and weight, frames can be maintained and fixed if something rots due to leaks over one piece composite which is a little harder to fix if something goes wrong + there are loads of old 80's and 90's second hand 30 year old timber built vans going around Australia doing perfectly fine.
