    As a student counsellor with trans clients, I can’t express how difficult it is for those of us in mental health to do our jobs right now.
    It’s like chronic walking on egg shells, and being forced to dismiss our internal sense of what is ethical in favour of this redefinition of ethics that the liberal left have shoehorned into the profession.
    It isn’t ethics - it’s mass gaslighting.
    Do I risk my four year education because a client has perceived the exploration as trans phobic?
    I have literally had this happen to me when trying to bring my client’s past self into the room.
    The trans lobby have made my job nearly impossible... I’m always walking this tight rope between personal ethics and woke ethics that as you rightly say, would cost me my license. We shouldn’t have to risk our careers just to do our jobs efficiently - but the liberal left are conflating almost any exploration of related underlying traumas and acknowledgement of the disowned self as a form of discrimination and an impingement on human rights.
    My sister is a trans lobbyist and my brother is also trans... this culture of walking on egg shells and ignoring the obvious are pervasive in both my private and professional life now.
    As a student, I’m genuinely terrified of what a client could do to my career if they felt that my attempt to help them integrate more fully was discriminatory - I would definitely lose my placement and probably my degree. Whilst in education, I have to relatively keep a low profile and a clean record of ethics - it just is what it is.
    Bur all of our clients deserve a million times better than this current nightmare system of mass collusion and gaslighting.
    I sure as hell won’t be using the affirmative model in my therapy.

      I've listened to many girls tell their trans detrans story. Their therapists should be sued for malpractice. Can you live with yourself knowing you're doing harm to people who have come to you for help?

      Thank you TW. I can only imagine your struggle but really appreciate hearing about it.
      Imagine being a parent that needs to find a councillor right now. I have no chance to help my daughter in the way she should be. I have to do it myself without any formal training. Thank goodness for the people out there who are the same.

    Thank you Carol for this very point by point analysis of your experience. Let's hope it is another thread to help girls and women struggling with their identity. Highlighting the health issues the ups and the downs of the process. Thank goodness for the brave women who made their protest... The small voice in the darkness of the gaslit tunnel. And now Carol your voice is added to theirs. Hopefully to gain strength and volume to the voice of critical thinking.

      @Boo_123 this is why some gender "therapists" advise their young patients to have their GRS as soon as they can, while they still live with their parents so that they can help them with post-op recovery. It is medical malpractice.

    Found this really moving, thank you so much to Erin and Carol for airing these issues. Not enough is said about the ongoing medical issues those who opt for/are pushed into the medical route are going to have to deal with on a permanent basis. Ageing obviously has further complications as hormonal balances change anyway. And also the strain it puts on the body as it tries to achieve a natural homeostasis against the repeated dosing of unusual levels of hormones. Talking therapies, a much needed means of giving perspective, are a sadly neglected measure in dealing with levels of deep psychological distress especially on this topic. Repeatedly it has been made obvious that individuals are suffering because of the way gender stereotypes are being reinforced within society and their own upbringings. We need to work harder as a unified community to remind people that these are indeed stereotypes and one can ignore them and carry on achieving what they want to do in the body they already have. By pretending they are really there we are doing a service to no-one.

    I'm wondering about the effects on the children if she had never detransitioned... Would this have possibly influenced them to consider transition desirable. Sometimes kids want to be like parents. We are seeing now families of trans parents and kids. Do some kids feel they get more approval from a trans parent if they transition also.. This further validating the parents transition...?

  • @MangaBear

    We seriously need to stop letting feelings as a way to confirm things that isn't true... Definitely need some rational thinking and mindfulness around in our lives.

    I've always wondered how testosterone would feel as a cis woman. The conventional wisdom is that if you're not a dude, cis or trans, testosterone is going to feel bad and wrong. But apparently physiologically, besides the visual, there is stuff it changes in your body that cis women can appreciate.
    I never transitioned but I've definitely entertained the idea that I was a guy during my lifetime. By chance of birth I am an extremely masculine looking female, it was tempting just to say why not go all the way. Wanting to perceived as guy, wanting people to treat me as a guy...that was true, but that didn't mean I was trans.

    I still wonder how do they allow people who clearly have some issues adopt children ... I mean it shouldn't be like getting a dog or a kitten ... Adoption should be at the service of children ,not at the service of adults

    • @SourPatches2077
      @SourPatches2077 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If they ruled out everyone who had a rough childhood no children would be adopted.

    • @joeybriteone
      @joeybriteone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@SourPatches2077 That's not how I read Salvo's comment. Psych issues are serious in many women who decide to adopt. Prospective parents should have to undergo some significant scrutiny via psychological health, period.

    I do agree that being a woman is hard and that extreme feminism is validating in a lot of senses, but I don't like how many extreme feminists seem very misandrist. Although I don't know personally what it's like to be a man, I empathize that it must be its own challenge.

  • @senwaters4459

    I have a lot in common with Carol, except the sexuality and the medical pathway. Trying when you’re young and finding it too hard then the avoidance of trans stuff.
    As Carol says, I walked in as a ‘heterosexual woman with kids’ and, although met all the criteria, I was met with skepticism. Unfortunately, I recognised this as a bias and it made it worse.

    • @brewerin
      @brewerin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. If they had offered decent care rather than condescending to you, it might have helped?

    • @senwaters4459
      @senwaters4459 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brewerin probably. I think the assumption that people seek transition because of lack of exposure to/understanding of feminism, abuse, or sexuality miss the point.
      Most people, seek transition because they think it will solve a problem they have. No matter how we slice it, some people (adults) are benefited by transition. However working out exactly whom, seems like guesswork and is based on biases.
