  • Important factors to consider when choosing to match your set of irons with the same pitching wedge model or deciding if you should opt for a more bladed scoring style wedge similar to the Milled Grind 2 - Forty Eight* Option.

    How does this thought process translate to using a set gap wedge vs a 50 or 52 milled grind wedge?

    I’m weighing up my options now with my wedge set up. Always played a pw, 48, 52 & 58. It’s hard to find a good place to allow you to test all the options before buying

    Trottie,
    what do you think about wedge shafts... particular the debate of using the same shaft you have in your irons, or a dedicated wedge shaft.. Then do you use the same stiffness/weight or would you go up or down in weight and flex.. what do most pros do.. i have been researching this now for my current set build..
    thanks

    Testing P770’s in a couple of weeks, what loft mg2 would give the same distance as the set wedge? For more forgiveness on the longer irons, would you suggest P790 slightly weakened in just the 4 or the 5 as well? Txg did a great comparison of the 770/790 in same loft & shaft

    • @callyjay9239
      @callyjay9239 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the 5iron should be 1.5 degrees weaker and the 4 1 degree - not too sure about loft of the mg2 to fit in :)

      All dependent on your delivery of the club, great questions to get into early with your fitter. Look at speed off the blade, spin rates, peak height & launch angle distances. Remember each degree on the same head is about 1 pace / yard in total distance 👍🏻

    Great explanation and insight, really enjoying your video content. Currently looking into getting the P790’s as am currently a 20 handicapper. Thinking now that the AW in the set maybe a better option than the 50 MG2 from my current level. Also out of interest in ur opinion is there much difference between a 54 & 56 wedge, if u were to play full shots and also around greens/bunkers, in general? (if was only getting one more club and nothing higher in the set for those shots) Cheers 👍

    • @trottiegolf
      @trottiegolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      54 / 56 too close for my preference in loft, you’ll need to spread that gap more. Both should be fine for full shots so no issue there..... only look out would be bounce on 56°, get that right and it can double up as a good sand club too

  • @BuffaloBarber24

    I have the 2019 p790s and thinking of swapping the set AW for a jaws wedge to match my 54 and 58 wedges. I prefer a more blade type wedge in my gap wedge. With the set PW being 45, would you recommend a 48 or 50 degree jaws gap wedge?

    • @trottiegolf
      @trottiegolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      test how it works for you on a range with a launch monitor. 50* would make sense on paper but you gotta test it out

  • @casey3057
    @casey3057 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I’m already playing the P7MB then would there even be a benefit to swapping out the matches PW for an MG2 ? Seems to me like it’s a much closer comparison and might just come down to look and feel?

    • @trottiegolf
      @trottiegolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The size of the hosel on the MB will give you more feel. Ultimately you're right though, it's down to feel.

      @@kevinvassago my 46* PW is part of my iron set. Haven't switched irons in yrs. Ive tinkered with having a 50/54/58 wedge breakdown and having 4 wedges was alot. For me having the 52 and 58 works better. I have a nice solid gapping not just in loft but in distance as well. I can still hit full and partial shot with the 52. 58 really mainly for chipping and pitching around the green and of course bunkers.
