Nice Video. When somethings seen so easy usually there are not. It takes knowledge and a lot of practice if you want to handle it right, but that is not the problem. I always said, the work is not to drill, the real job is not to hit something, there are places with so much things on the ground that you spend more time making sure you are clear than actualy doing the drill shot.

It’s always fun when the driller forgets to turn the water off when he comes out of the ground. I have seen a lot go wrong with directional drilling including a drill enter someone’s basement in the wrong spot 50 feet away.

Great video. However, I have one question. Since the drilling machine is at the ground surface pushing pipes into the ground at app. 45 degrees, how the drilling line get straightened to be horizontal and parallel with the surface?
    Thanks

because the rods are only approx 10ft, there is an amount of flexibility. This allows them to change depths when diving below or above other utilities in the ground. This also allows them to bore around curved roads to a certain degree. You can check out 'Directional Technologies' for an animated version of this. th-cam.com/video/mdLCD6t6C-w/w-d-xo.html

@@mikeebersole5803 in addition they can almost go around a cul de sac with the direction drilling bit. its pretty much mining or brought to your local HOA !!!

This is my company’s old rig 36x50 with 15 “ rods , surprisingly they bend a lot underground and we can get level in no time . I’ve done some narly turns

So many questions. How deep do they drill. How much conduit is on each reel. When connecting two lengths of conduit or splicing wires together, does a vault need to be put in. What if it's not possible to drill along the side of the road do to terrain?

Pressurized water huh?? Ever heard of Bentanite mud? I think an actual Directional Driller should explain the process..

Bentonite* aka drilling fluid mainly is mixed with water, another chemical -barite (barium sulfate) to stabilize the borehole, cool the bit, suspend solids and assist with flushing out cuttings. Also used is potassium formate and other chemicals and polymers depending on soil and rock conditions. There was no mention of the “back reamer” bit fitted when they pulled the pipe out of the borehole. (I did horizontal/directional drilling for water/oil/gas/minerals/geothermal for ten years, as dumb as it sounds we all went to “mud school” to learn how to use the fluids properly. Learned a lot by working with the rigs!)
