Since I was a kid and my mom fed me cream of rice I loved it. I now make it by grinding long grain rice in my coffee grinder and cooking it in my rice cooker. 3 to 1 ratio of water to rice. I top it with tbsp of maple syrup and almond milk. Cost effective too.
Ya wanna know how it works, cause i just had to!!!😂 It's got a thermostat set at around 212f, the boiling point of water. When all the water has evaporated the thermostat kicks it down to keep warm. That's why the ratio of rice (or anything else) to water is so important. If you're making a cake or brownies, same thing..... The reason the toothpick comes out clean is cause all the water has evaporated. I haven't tried brownies tho cause it seems to me like they'd be on the dry side.😮 I guess you could try brownies, but id keep an eye on the time the first couple of tries. Thx for these videos, gonna binge my way through your channel.❤❤
I find the physics of how it works to be super interesting and so elegant in design! Have you noticed how a rice cooker flicks back up based on what you put in there and not just at a preset time? Allow me to nerd out a bit 😄 The main way a rice cooker works is through electromagnetism. The important thing to note is that one of the main ways of destroying magnetic properties in an object is through high heat (around 80C). When you flick that switch down, you're creating an electromagtic that makes contact with the metallic bowl and keeps it held down and also generates heat, which cooks your food. Since there's water at the bottom of the dish, the temperature can't go above the boiling point of water (100C) since that gets absorbed into the food and water. Water is an excellent conductor, don't forget. As the water in the bowl is absorbed into the food (as well as being lost through evaporation), less of it is left at the bottom of the bowl. Once most of it has gone this means that less of it can be absorbed away and so the bowl gets hotter and hotter. Once it's hot enough, the electromagnetic properties of the bowl are destroyed and the switch flicks back up and heat is no longer directly transferred into the bowl. The cool thing about it is that that's how the appliance "knows" that most of the excess water in the food has gone - physics! 😄
Grits are a type of porridge made from ground corn that is not commonly available in Australia, so polenta is often used as a substitute. Grits can be made from white or yellow corn and are often labeled accordingly. They can be served with a variety of flavorings and are often eaten for breakfast. Grits taste like corn, plus whatever you cook them with, which can make them sweet, salty, spicy, or bland.
Grits are simply cracked corn, polenta are just about the same coarseness so each can be used for the other Oats can be cracked also, then called steel cut/Scotch oats/Irish oats Buckwheat can be cracked also, often called “grits” too and when buckwheat is toasted it’s called kasha Ain’t grains fun?
GREAT RECIPES, THANK YOU! 😍😋 6:52 A tip for anyone making pancakes or scrambled eggs: for the best oancakes, put a few dollops of sour cream into your batter and don’t beat the batter. Mis the batter no more than about 15 strokes- just enough to not see powder. You *want* to see lumps! This makes a super fluffy, creamy pancake! I only use butter in my pan- never oil. Oil makes them crispy and I don’t like that. Also, put a few dollops of pancake batter in your scrambled egg mixture and they’ll be flyffy and a lot more filling! 😊❤
and to reheat things. i can use the well u cook in or i use the steMer thingy. i put foil in that. and then in the well i put wwter and heat everything up. easy peasy
Hi Claire 👋 When i did youtube search for rice cooker recipes you were not the 1st to come up, but yours is the most interesting! Getting a rice cooker for bday, so excited. 😊 I saw your comment about weight loss, did you use the rice cooker as a tool fir weight loss? Any tips would be so appreciated! I am officially a big fan! 😅
I actually had bariatric surgery almost three years ago. I had a sleeve done and it has been amazing for me! Definitely not easy and not the right fit for everyone but I have really vibed with the lifestyle. The rice cooker has been great because I can make smaller portions easily which is great for weight loss even if you haven’t had surgery! I also think the low effort definitely makes me more likely to eat something less processed or grab fast food which is a helper too!
I love to make grits in my Dash rice cooker. I usually add chicken broth - or bouillon - and bacon bits, but I haven’t made it with an egg. I’m definitely going to try that next time. Thanks for sharing!
love it! Have to try this omelette in the rice cooker. Again, I love how you sprinkle that spinach into everything to get more nutrients. so hearty and delicious.
@@ClaireRisper Would love if you did just recipes on how you incorporate or sneak spinach in your recipes. Just a spinach inspired video on any recipes not just rice cooker but anything could be stove top,, baked or slow cooker. Would love that!
Your garden frittata was beautiful. I'm in the process of remodeling our townhome and the kitchen is demoed. Because I can't stop projects and go out for lunch every day, I'm using a 4-cup rice cooker for all my meals and for heating up leftovers that I bring. I love cooking like this so much, that I don't even care if the stove is the last thing installed. :)

If you cant find grits you can use corn meal. The texture will be much smoother but its the same thing. In the old days we called it corn meal mush. Grits are great with butter and brown sugar for breakfast or dinner. Or mix in some cheddar cheese for a great side dish.
I live in Australia and I don’t know what grits are, not even sure if I can buy them here, but I’m loving your videos and definitely going to add a rice cooker to my kitchen
Grits are ground up hominy. If you don't know what hominy is, it's exploded corn that been soaked and expanded. It has a wonderful, nutty flavor. I personally dislike grits because of the texture. And if you don't know what corn is then you don't live on planet earth. 😂
I use my frother to make protein iced coffee. I add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to 1/2 skim mike and several pumps of Torani sugar free syrup (Chocolate Macadamia is my preference),and froth. Add ice and brewed coffee. Delicious.
If you want the flavor savor of cheese and are a vegan or don't have cheese, try a good sprinkle of high quality nutritional yeast. It's very good and packed with nutrition. Also can make pancakes or bready biscuity type things with flax meal, golden or brown, eggs, stevia OR savory with garlic and onion powders, baking powder with some ACV [or fire cider], seeds, chopped nuts and zante currants, dried cherries, a tbsp or two almond meal, or tapioca, arrowroot, nutritional yeast, salt always....and cook in the rice cooker, though I usually do mine in the microwave...either way. It's good
inhaveba 3 cup rice cooker. and it has a steamer thingy with it. it makes the rice cooker more versatile. i got mine at amazon. and i picked a red one. i have made lots of dif things in my rice cooker and the steamer thingy id awesome too
i like putting raisins & dry banana chips or dried cherries in my oatmeal while its cooking. i use dry milk instead of liquid so i can keep all the ingredients long term stocked. Just have to figure out ur water ratio accordingly.
