Although on that time I miss Mike Lindup. I also love Lyndon Connah too. Very unique on playing and characteristic. Very best decision to bring him in this group on that time 🙂 Love all of them.
Every minute is amazing of this video for so many reasons! How is Gary Husband this good at drums and keys? It makes me feel like I have failed as a musician. Gary Husband and Alan Holdsworth both are such unique gifts for all of us to hear. THANK YOU Gary and Level 42.. Much love from Detroit MI.
Saw Gary H. Playing with A.H. live at a club in Rochester NY around 1990. Gary was wearing shorts, sneakers and no shirt, (as I remember it) He was a bullet train on the drums sweating his ass off. Marvelous!
Shorts, runners and no shirt 🎖yep, and he took no prisoners when I experienced Allan’s quartet in ‘95 at the Belly Up in Solana Beach CA. They were as lovely people as they were treacherously beastly on the bandstand. I will always count myself fortunate to be in a band that had an opening slot. I got free admission!! Got a chance to meet GH before they packed up. He said something to the effect that “I get to play two of the greatest bass players in the world : Jimmy and Mark.” Since I could only agree I bid him best of luck on the road and left him to pack up in peace🤣. In all seriousness he was real gracious.
I saw you playing with this line up in Tilburg (the Netherlands). What has stuck with me was the impeccable timing between you and Mark, incredible tight playing! From all the drummers I've seen live you and Simon Philips (Hiromi trio) have impressed me the most.
@@fragwagon Really??! I've always wondered. There are metal ones (I've got one somewhere, they're kinda fun), but For him I thought some kinda something Taylor made Maybe even leather.. Tape... Ok.
@@Humbert96 common misconception. He's said many times over the years that he uses gaffer tape. He split open his thumb in the early days and apparently it's quite painful.
Bálint Meszlényi Only really practiced it back in the mid ‘70s. Ever since I drift back into it here and there. I did a Videocast on “Open Handed Playing” at my website garyhusband.com if you are interested. Felt better to play with this band lefty-lead. 👍
Incredible to think that Level 42 were having commercial success with jazz/pop/funk back in the 80's. A stellar band like this wouldnt even be given the time of day now...Too many changes, too many rhythms, too many extended chords, too many instruments, horns, layers and grooves. Criminal really how unsophisticated modern audiences have become.
Mark King's total independence between his vocal lines and stellar bass playing is a thing of wonder. Formidable!!!!!
Jesus christ...the pocket. Absolutely fantastic.
I’m here because I just watched Gary tearing it up with The Syd Lawrence Orchestra on the Les Dawson show in 1977 when he was 16. Great moment.

Your playing on this is impeccable Gary...just wow! 😮
I know right, and absolute monster player. Dude's also an incredible keyboard player. So much skill in one man.

I am a big fan of Gary and his keyboards and drum performances, but boy, the rest of Level 42 are killers, too!
Love this music and the DRUMMER!!

Now that's REAL drum and bass. Shit hot.
I am in awe of your talent sir. Simply amazing!
Stellar musicianship and sophistication like this in the context of popular music is a lost art! Really needs to make a comeback!
Wow...sounds so good
Like father like son! Love Nathan! Especially in Level 42 but also Frost!
Isn't Nathan Mark's younger brother? But sure, a talented man indeed.
Maestro!

@@fragwagon it is *VERY* painful to split your thumb.
My kind of “pop”.
When you had your left hand leading periods, did you do all your practicing with left handed groove?

Bands like these are an endangered species…

Sick with groovitis
