Really incredible! Two masters, great musicians of a music of the future, if we are lucky. These two musicians are like all of the great progenitors, where the music precedes any description or script. This reminded me of listening to John Coltrane and Elvin in duo. Their playing made so much sense in a age that saw jazz transform and rock mature, although with the cultural ending of, and irrelevance of jazz, and now rock it seems, this music breathes like either the last immense fire, or the first winds of a new improvised music. It is too good, too true and admirable, too awe-inspiring to ignore.
Fabulous Gary! Fabulous!! Aside from your amazing vocabulary, technical prowess, and outright genius, this is a great demonstration of how to play rock solid time. I think it was your last fill there especially that would with most drummers at varying degrees of skill, stick out like a sore thumb via over anticipation and lacking in time, however, it was right where it was supposed to be considering the Holdsworthian sheets of sound happening simultaneously. With all that immense information floating around in your head it’s astounding to think that you throughout your life have had the time to meticulously craft your sense of meter to be as such. Amazing! Thank you for posting this!!
Gary I echo all the thanks from other appreciative fans for posting such important music - RIP Allan the maestro. I fondly remember first seeing you and Allan perform together with Turning Point at the Arnolfini in Bristol at the start of the 80s. Allan was mesmeric as ever, but I sensed he was frustrated and I suspect he was already contemplating his move to the US. As a fond aside, I recall thinking this amazing young drummer was the hardest hitter I had ever seen and lo and behold one of your sticks broke and flew into the crowd - many years later I became good friends with another music nut and it turns out he was at the same gig and caught the stick - which he still has. And another anecdote, back in the day on Fusenet we agreed Narada was one of our favourite drummers (I can only imagine what the Velvet Darkness band might have created given time and a fair contract) but I incurred your wrath when I dared to say I just didn’t enjoy Tony Williams - you will be pleased to hear I have changed my opinion since then 😊Anyway thanks for all the beautiful music you have created in the years since - it has and continues to be an inspiration 🎹🥁🎼
Thank you so much for posting this clip Mr. Husband! I love to listen to improvisations that you and Mr. Holdsworth recorded. There is simply no other music like that which you two made together. You two were meant to play together. Gratitude to you for sharing it!
@@GaryHusbandKeyboardsandDrums Is there any version of "City nights" live?? I ever wanted to listen that awesome song live. Hope to no bother you with my question. And thanks for giving all your music!
Alejandro Juan Langellotti No sir. No live recording of the song. And I don’t think Allan ever performed it with his band live either. Although, here is something ALL about “City Nights” 😀👍 garyhusband.com/item/track-analysis-city-nights
@@GaryHusbandKeyboardsandDrums Thank you!! I just bought it and I am fascinating with the material. I am composer, and guitar player. And when i transcribed this, I wrote (4/4) 9/8(x3) 6/8 4/4(x2) 2/4. Now reading your score it all make sense. Thank you again!! this song is a masterpiece
Wow! amazing playing all round. Two of you on fire in this. Some of the extended fast legato passages Allan is playing are just unfathomable. Physically, I just don't get how he could keep going without his forearm tying up. I guess the answer is perfected technique and just sheer innate ability.
Amazing to see and hear - this sounds like it could be a pre-sketch of the classic 'The Drums Were Yellow'. Is there more footage available to show of this session - would be so great to see.
I feel like my inflight nav system blacked out without him and I am now stranded on planet Earth.
The two musicians that shaped my musical brain.
How much I miss Allan…
Fantastic Playing From Allan Holdsworth and Gary Husband in 1997. Utter Bliss. We all miss Allan
I still have this complete program on VHS tape. And I still have the player on which to view it. 📼😎
I miss Allan! Every time I find a new reminder of him I have not seen. Thank you Gary.
Dude that smile at the end means everything in the world. Pure expression
Hey Gary, Id love to see those bass videos you uploaded. I don't seem to be finding them. You wrote an inspired text on the player.

Really cool to hear Gary play a more "traditional" jazz style, because he is absolutely killing it!
love it!!

Massimo DeAngelis I so appreciate that sir thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Wow!
AMAZING genius
Nice
Would anyone know if interplay and improvisation was ever converted to digital format?

Snowfire Sunwind No was just the one take, completely improvised. It came out on my drum video a long time ago. 🙏
A hora que o infeliz tinha que filmar o Allan , não filmava...
Awesome ! Gordan Ramsey beats that snare like it owes him money 😂. Seriously though awesome clip
The Drums Were Orange
I know what you mean
It has the same structure and instrumentation as the referenced tune in "The Sixteen Men of Tain" album, minus the last chord played on the Synthaxe.
they are truly partners in crime
Must say, not Allan's greatest night, while Husband is - wow... Not that Holdsworth had a poor night...
