I can't believe I didn't think of using a transient shaper... THANK YOU!! Huge difference.

So glad you're putting out content, Mark. This goes directly into a challenge I found in a practice mix

Would you mind using another word in place of "content"?

Love SSL eq, it clears up any kind of muddy mixes. Love it. So useful.

Very well done with excellent results. It confirms a path I would normally take to remedy such an issue. Great work and thanks for posting. We appreciate it.

Hi. Since this video have you changed your side-chaining method? Soothe2 is for sidechaining and would work great for this as it would only sidechain the frequencies the bass shares with the kick...

Mark, I thought a while. Did you try the de-verb from SPL (PA) or BOZ transgressor to approach the pianos reverb?
Is the SSL 4k G your goto for such acoustic audio material? Cheers

I did actually try to reduce the reverb using various methods, but nothing really improved it. Although you can reduce the tail of the reverb, a lot of it in this case is happening in the first few milliseconds and nothing seems to be able to get in there without also killing off the top end of the bass.
I love the SSL 4K for acoustic drums but the E and J also great I use those too. Something about SSL just gets me there quicker with drums.

@@heronislandstudio8054 I thought so from listening to your audio track, that there could hardly anything be done. Yes, the PA SSL (all 3) are very good. I test a new SSL-style strip from time to time, but they don´t get into their realms of character and punch :) Best to you.

@@nichttuntun3364 Yes I agree the PA SSLs are particularly great sounding. Cheers.

If only the drummer or the studio engineer had addressed this during the setup before the recording. Changes to the beater, tuning, damping and mic position would have improved the source.

I agree, it's always better to address issues at the source. As mixers we get all sorts of recordings some are better than others. Also, with the budgets most bands have these days it's often not possible to hire the best studios or spend the time to get the sounds good was they could be.

In a situation like this you might give us a direct feed.... Through your mic, it's hard to hear what you're trying to focus on.... Just a comment.
