Prairie Screamer Review | Scandia Screamer Saved by Traders Village

- In February 2019, Scandia Ontario closed its doors permanently. Several rides were put up for sale including the Scandia Screamer. Listed at $950,000, it took a while for this E&F Miler coaster to find a buyer, but the coaster will be relocated to Traders Village in Grand Prairie, Texas, less than 5 miles from Six Flags Over Texas.
In this video, I will discuss my thoughts on the ride's relocation and review the Scandia Screamer based on my rides in December 2018. I recently rerode this coaster in spring 2023 and my rides were identical to the ones I got at its old home.

The POV I used was from the early 2000s. More trim brakes were added in the later years. I rode it in these conditions and it still delivered great airtime and laterals.
FleaFall is an ingenious name for a drop tower in the flea market. I'm glad that the Screamer has been saved.
I love the name.
@@CanobieCoaster get it
So glad my “former” home park’s main roller coaster is saved.
Agreed!
Lol Scandia Amusement Park looked so bad.
I could care less if they closed if Screamer wasn’t there. Luckily two years later that legend got saved and is opening at a flee market in Fall 2021
I go to trader village often.. can't wait to ride it.
Nice!
Man... I grew up 10 minutes from Scandia, and your story of that old jankie park filled my chest with warm nostalgia. Riding this thing on Halloween night right after getting tackled by a scare actor is a core theme park memory
Such a weird park!
it's so exciting that there's more coasters coming to the DFW area!
Absolutely!
Shockwave Dan - Love your name! Shock Wave is one of my all-time favorite steel coasters of around 300 steel ridden. Prairie Screamer structure is now going up & I put an update here th-cam.com/video/IUGbtJBYGCA/w-d-xo.html I live 30 minutes from Trader's Village.
I hope you guys over at Traders Village have fun with this ride just as much as I did. If for whatever reason I happen to be in Texas, I would marathon this thing.
I'm just glad it was saved.
We will 😎
I miss Scandina so much. So many good memories.
I'm glad this coaster lived on.
That looks intense! I think more small parks should build a coaster like this. It can't be expensive.
I'd love to see Miler build more rides like this.
This was a relocated ride and I highly doubt these are continued. However That is a good idea.
@@coasterhockygamingboy9549 Well Miler is actually still in business and building brand new coasters, so it is still a possibility
That looked like an amazing coaster and I'm so glad it's been rescued!
Me too!
I was wondering why everyone was so excited about this thing being saved on Instagram but after your video I finally understand why, it sounds so special and underrated!
It's amazing.
On TH-cam, I was literally the only person who made a video on it and was so confused how NO ONE KNEW.
Canobie coaster’s video came a few days later.
Airtime thrills discord was talking about it but that is only because I told them.
With the edition of the Screamer, Traders Village Flea Market (Grand Prairie) officially broke off the mini amusement park from the rest of the market. It’s now Prairie Playland at Traders Village.
Interesting!
I rode this coaster in 2018 as well. I drove by it all the time and finally stopped in on a trip back from Vegas. I had rode Manhattan Express and Desperado to break up the drive and decide to stop at Scandia. It was a Sunday evening and the park was dead. The staff was extremely helpful as I explained I just wanted to ride the Screamer. And I will say this was one of 2 times where a coaster blew me out of the water. Most times I go into a coaster and I know what to expect. This was one of two cases where it far exceeded my expectations of the ride. The back row ride was great and it was a night ride. I was sad to see it go but I'm glad I got a chance to ride it. I'm glad it got saved and during my next trip to Dallas, whenever that is, I will make a stop to ride it because it is that good!
I'm glad you loved it as much as me.
Just put up a construction update of Prairie Screamer on 1/3/2022. Check it out & more will possibly follow. Linked this video in my description.
I can't wait for this to be rebuilt.
Oh man this is top 5 best coaster news of 2021. I slept on this coaster for over a decade, driving past it almost daily for over 15 years, never stopping in. One of these days I will, I told myself, until I found out via Parks Bros that it was closed and they made it on possibly the final operating day. Since I visit The DFW area monthly, this means that I will finally get this credit and will be able to ride it as often as I want. Major win for enthusiasts!
Nice!
I found the landings of a couple of the drops painful (yes, like Steel Eel), but it’s still awesome that this coaster is being saved. I’ll be able to give it another whirl next time I’m in the Dallas area.
It seems more accessible now.
Have you been to sfot and if so is the airtime like shockwaves?
@@spaggetijeff1229 I have. For me Shockwave has abrupt drops with pops of airtime, but it wasn’t like Scandia Screamer and Steel Eel - on those two coasters I got airtime on the drops but then landed painfully on the hard seats.
Yes, I use to operate this coaster up until it closed with the park. The coaster had rules we had to follow to avoid a valley which happened once. So yes sometimes according to the weather we did need anywhere from at least 4 riders to a full train. But yes it’s small but mighty.
I'm just glad there were enough people in the park so I could ride it.
Hey me too but i quit in 2018 lol
You got this cranked that out quick. This is awesome news, especially since I haven't yet ridden this, and i love the E&F Hi-Milers.
It's Miler's best work.
This blows anything else they have done out of the water. Great ride!
Hey, Canobie Coaster! I might ride the Prairie Screamer as part of my Six Flags Over Texas vacation!
It's a fantastic ride.
yusss so exciting!!
Agreed!
This coaster is genuinely terrifying because it feels so cheaply made and unnatural in a way, that you think you are going to derail LOL.
This is what Galaxy coasters can only dream of being!
Seriously the footprint is amazing for what is delivered.. PS when we rode it it was 2001 and I don't remember any trims, it was mental.
I wish I rode it untrimmed.
Another tip for taller riders I have based on my observations is to avoid the front row. The wall in front of seat in the front row looks taller and could be a knee basher, especially for extremely tall people who the GP thinks can’t ride anything.
Good tip!
Hey my friend great video I work at Traders Village in Grand Prairie I’m going to be one of the mechanics working on that coaster I love your input and the way you did your video it was awesome
Very cool!
@@CanobieCoaster
No my friend thank you awesome video very insightful when you get here to ride it let me know would
I loved this thing. My first large-scale coaster. First rode it when I was 6 or 7. XD
It's a great ride!
I am so glad it was saved I rode this coaster a few times and it was fantastic I use to drive down the 15 fwy.every day to go to work I'm so glad it got save
Nice!
This is awesome news, especially since I haven't yet ridden this
It's welcome for many.
As a DFW resident, we call Traders Village La Pulga.
Makes sense since it's a flea market.
Go to Traders Village on Sundays and the track it's all complete what's do not open until May 30th
I think it opens soon.
I lived fifteen minutes away from this coaster and I was to scared to go on it. Now I regret not going on it but hopefully I'll be able to go when I go on my roadtrip.
Hopefully!
Always made my dad stop to ride it if we were stuck in traffic. Its a great ride. Bummed I missed the finale but heres my chance to visit six flags over texas and the prairie screamer
I'm glad the ride is saved.
Oh dang I can actually ride this lol. Was not expecting that.
It was a pleasant surprise.
Cool I'm a DFW native I'll have to go give it a shot. And I just love traders village anyway so seems like fun!
Lucky!
The screamin swing at this park was actually a transportable version, produced by s&s and trailered by Larson
Thanks for clarifying!
That 10 rider limit, I don’t blame you for going (BEEP!!!!!!!!)
I would of went Clark Griswald with your circumstances. No ride operator for a long amount of time, then the 10 rider limit.
Whoever that group of 4 was, they are the Scandia Saviors for you.
Absolutely! I've seen some parks send employees in situations like this, but I don't think Scandia had enough employees to do so.
@@CanobieCoaster Well thank goodness you rode it when you did!
I think the fact it is in a flea market as well really makes me want to spend a whole day at the new location. (Because I’m also a very thrifty shopper and enjoy going to flea markets a lot!)
I rode it back 2006. It was brutally fun.
Sounds like my experience.
I was excited thinking it was coming to Traders Village here in Houston...😞
Maybe that one will get a coaster soon too.
I have plans to one day visit the Dallas/Fort Woth area and then travel to Grand Prarie to spend the day at an indoor waterpark called Epic Waters. I am not one of those people who cares about getting credits that much but if it's in the same town as the waterpark I suppose I could stop at Traders Village on the way back from the park and give this ride a try just because it's there.
This also isn't just a credit. It's a legit great roller coaster.
I second that. It is not just a credit. It is a very good coaster!
Have fun at epic waters went there as gp and still and fun even though its made for enthusiests
Awesome
Yes
I definitely would have visited the park to ride the ride when I was at SFOT. Not sure when I'll be going back though. Heck, the flea market sounds cool alone.
I'm glad this ride was saved.
It's weird to hear your praise of Scandia Screamer but you thought Viking Voyage was only so-so. I LOVED Viking Voyage! The ground-level swoop turn was maybe my favorite part of the ride! I know it's smaller & different from this, too. I also rode the Hi Miler at the Houston Rodeo many years ago, shortly before the death/accident. It was an incredible ride! I live in Fort Worth, a 20 min drive from Traders Village. I learned about this Hi Miler (Prairie Screamer/Scandia Screamer) 3 days ago! In spite of 3 years in Fort Worth I had also never heard of Traders Village. I went yesterday (5/1/21) to see how far along things are. Because I loved the Houston Hi Miler so much, I am super-stoked about Prairie Screamer! I’m definitely a wood coaster guy, but the Hi Miler is really special, just as this excellent video says. I’ll be visiting regularly to photograph/video & watch it go up! Right now the area is being leveled, worked, and prepared for concrete footers. About 50 yards away the track, structure, motor, chain and trains are neatly stacked & fenced off in a parking lot, trains being inside closed shipping containers. Remember the roller coaster sitting in the Atlantic Ocean after Hurricane Sandy? That was a Hi Miler coaster like his one. There's also two AWESOME Wild Mouse coasters made by Miler operating in Colorado & Texas! I hope Prairie Screamer does well, it is a very intense ride! Some people may not like how strong this ride is. A weird choice for this huge flea market! If you saw Traders Village, you might wonder how they afforded an almost million dollar coaster! This historic, rare ride was manufactured in the early 1970s, so I'm glad to see it still making the rounds, being wanted, and soon operating! And I'll be riding! LOTS!
I enjoyed Hurricane, but it didn't have the quantity of airtime of Screamer. It had its moments though!
I used to work at Scandia Ontario and have operated and rode this ride many times. I really do miss doing both. They do need to fix the drop or at least put some kind of cushion on the hoods of the cars at 1:55 in this video. Lots of whiplash and ended up getting bruises at the knees. Hope texas enjoys it as much as i have.
It will be interesting if it is modified during the move.
Yesterday was an amazing day for me too because I got Hershey reservations for may 2nd, my first major park in 492 days
Going next year can’t wait ahh
I’m just worried because I’m going for band, and if no one in my group likes roller coasters I’m toast 😬
Or if they are slow at walking 😂
Or if we get bad crowds
Or if we get the late shift so we have less time in the park
Yeah I’m worried 😂
Nice! I may go Friday, but the high winds could change my plans to Great Adventure.
Imagine if they took this ride and doubled the size. I wish just one manufacturer would make a hyper version of one of these simple rides. Imagine going super fast bit still being 170 ft up when you slow down for the turn. It would be crazy to he that high up for that long on a coaster.
That would be crazy.
I want one of these to come at my local luna park so bad!
This would have the most airtime of any italian roller coasters
I wanted this in New England
@@CanobieCoaster “you should’ve gotten a E&F miler..”
I hate being an “actually’er,” but Miler is an American manufacturer. And IS, not “was;” they are still in business and building brand-new coasters!
This thing looks huge
The support structure accentuates the height.
Are you going to traders village when scandian screamer reopens their?
The next time I'm in Dallas, yes.
Which coasters at Six Flags Over Texas do you prefer over Prairie Screamer?
Ones like New Texas Giant, Shock Wave, and Mr. Freeze.
While Screamer is undoubtedly the most intense of the E&F Miler "Hi-Miler" model, even the smaller ones, such as the one now at Fun Spot Kissimmee, look to be pretty intense, especially for their size. This is definitely on my bucket list.
Hurricane is good too.
THANK THE LORD
Agreed!
So what I’m getting from these miller coasters, the more Jank the more fun
That's their specialty.
This ride used to be much more insane before they put the trims on in the mid 2010s.
It was even crazier than when I rode it? Wow!
I think this was the first coaster that I ever experienced ejector airtime. Oh boy, I didn't know what was going on.
It's deceptively wild.
Prairie Screamer is almost done! All track has been laid, making the circuit complete! Here's a link to my latest update. I've linked Canobie Coasters video (this video) in all seven of my video construction updates. th-cam.com/video/hOL9DRQD-Ts/w-d-xo.html
Awesome, can't wait for it to reopen.
"more potholes than parked cars" Oh I didn't realize this was in New England.
Lol
If it actually has that much airtime and laterals then it's probably the best E&F Miler.
It absolutely is.
Looks like those Shwarzkopf Wildcat Coaster Models but bigger and more cars
It does.
I mean even there kiddie coasters have insane airtime
They're definitely wilder than other kiddie coasters.
I was hoping CASTLE PARK in RIverside would get it so that it would stay here in Southern California.
At least they finally got that spinning coaster open again.
@@CanobieCoaster Did they really? That thing has been SBNO for years. It always looked like a fun ride. I'm glad they got it running again.
I just wanna point out this parks 10 minutes away from Sfot and also has a Larsen loop
Yes
Yeah they have like 7 rides (the other major ones are the drop tower FleaFall and the Larson loop, the coaster is the big star)
Where did you first hear this news?
I think I saw it on their website.
Send it back to socal!
At least the ride was saved!
So the screamer got saved.........kinda...... since i dont live in texas and cant ride it😢
At least it's still operating.
they should add trim brakes on those truns yikes and new paint
The POV was from the early 2000s. Some additional trims were added apparently.
It's now re-painted. White structure, green track. Was stripped, inspected and painted. Looks gorgeous, too!
Looks so sketch, I'd be so scared on this thing!
It has a perfect safety record.
Six flags hq is in grandpraire
Makes sense.
Traders village huh?
Yup!
Random flea market with 6 rides in Dallas. 10 minutes from SFOT.
Ummm what is this place?
Flee market/few rides Larsen loop/Larson drop tower
A flea market with some rides.
@@CanobieCoaster that actually sick
Yeah there are a few across Texas. This is the only one with a coaster.
I would like but I can’t ruin the 69
Edit: someone ruined it
Wow what a monster
Lol
I will be pretty upset if coaster studios rides this a makes a parody of it
Could be a sign of flattery.
