We went five months without chickens after our flock got a respiratory disease. Now we are adding chickens back to the homestead! Join us as we go pick them up and bring them home!

So sweet to go back and see old footage of the boys and what the old farm looked like 4 years ago! My Momma got some chicks and we are working on their coop. This is adorable footage. Oh, and the new puppy does look like Chuck Norris!

You can also add cayenne pepper to the chickens feed or water, that will help raise their internal body temperature in the winter. Sometimes that will help them lay, because they’re not having to use so much of their energy to keep warm. I also add apple cider vinegar to their water just to keep them healthy and boost their immune system, I don’t know whether it helps them lay, but it is something that I do.

From watching other videos thought Homestead was in TN , so looked at a map n you could very easily live on the border of AR n shop there.

I make elderberry syrup too!!! It's what got me hooked into herbal medicinals. Now we got a bush going and some root stock that we pray will bid for next year so wecan have our own elderberry supply in a few years. It's a labor of love for sure

Hello! I am happy to see you guys back. I learned this from justin Rhodes permaculture that parsley and Echinacea flowers can be helpful for chicken respiratory diseases. Also they have mentioned about many other herbs that are useful with chicken in different ways. Growing kerbs like basil, sage, rosemary, bee balm, oregano, lavender and mint surrounding your chicken coop can be prove helpful. Have a great one!

I hate to ask, but I need to know... want was this respiratory disease? I have a flock of beautiful colored layers, 3 shades of green, and a speckled green even! I want to do hatching eggs as well, if one of my birds was sick, how do you know how dangerous it is? Chickens do get a sniffle every now and then, right?
Looking at your older chicken videos, you used sand in coops. In this redo you used straw. Did you find the sand may have contributed to the respiratory illness that led to culling your flock? I ask because I'm trying to figure out best bedding for our coop. We use beach sand in the chicken yard and quail yard but used a mixture of sawdust and wood chips in coop. Time to clean it out tomorrow.

A flock of chickens make life great just subscribed to your chanel so far love it...I put in a solar powered flood light in the coop that comes on when the sun goes down it draws the chickens into the coop at sundown.
Those sure are some laid back birds!

Whats your take on integrating a few adult chickens with existing chicks? Our chicks are about 8 weeks old. They are already out in the chickshaw and run. This is just a thought I had so we can actually have some eggs while we wait for the chicks to mature.

Did u use to sell eggs ? Or why did u have more than 100 previously ? And did u thought about growing some veggies that they will eat to cut on feed costs ?
