    That Cutlass is a dream. If there's a car for auto auction rebuild. This is it.... Don't worry about the money this is Auto Auction Rebuilds. You'll make it on the back end. Easily.

    Seems like a cool car to purchase, I used to own a 73 Hurst Olds that was black with gold stripes. The price of this 442 is worth it, if you were planning on restoring it then it's not too much to pay. These cars are famous for rear window leaks so removal of the top is imperative and re-sealing the rear windows to prevent future damage.

  • @oldschool6345

    Swivel buckets were an option. They came with "regular" buckets seats as well. The 442 was mostly a trim package by 73, but they're not too common. Rust in the hind end is the biggest value factor on that one I would say. The originality is very rare.

    I had a 1973 Olds 442 with the 455 motor and the Muncie 4 speed. It caught on fire in my garage one night and burnt the engine compartment and melted the dash board to the floor. It was grass green with a white pinstripe. I loved that car. I also had a 1968 442 and a 1972 442 with the hood scoop ram air, a beautiful car. Now I have an Alpha Remeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio with 505 horse power. Again, I love it.

    The biggest concern on "Colonnade" GM coupes is that rear area below the rear window, very notorious for being a haven for rust to develop. Get a car with minimal rust in that area and it's worthy of preserving. I'm sure a '73 442 is a rare beast and $5500 is well under the going rate for what is seemingly a complete and solid car. The condition of the front and rear bumpers(that plastic insert behind the front bumper is pretty much unobtainable) and front grille alone make this car worth buying. Of course restoring one is probably best if you're a fan of the body style because dropping $25-30K into one won't yield dividends on the investment, but having a really nice, well done Colonnade coupe in a desirable configuration for around $30-40K overall isn't so bad considering what everything cost these days. Eventually(due to inflation) it'll be worth $30-40K and in the mean time you'll have a nice car to drive, show and enjoy.

I also swapped out the steering box from an 80s Camaro (quicker turning) and control arms from the same Camaro (changed the angle of roll). *the infinity is nice as for the boat, wells cargo is a trailer manufacturer, wasn't aware they made boats too. Regarding the top kick, it varies state to state but like in TN and GA if it doesn't have dual rear axles you don't have to have a CDL to drive it. the red button on the shifter is for high and low range gears so that 5 speed would actually be a 10 speed because 5 speed in low range, 5 more speeds in high but you wouldn't drive it that way, you get up to cruising speed with a load on and then pull up the button on the shifter to drop the idle down and just drive then when you stop to take off and for the first couple gears you would start off in low range again. The big red button in the middle is a PTO for probably a dump bed. More than likely the starter isn't fried. as cold as it is out there it won't stay running because the fuel in a diesel gells up when it gets too cold. that's more than likely what's going on and why it wouldn't stay running. that's usually also why diesel truck drivers leave their trucks running frequently. Vermeer is usually a tree service equipment company. the tree service i worked for in Knoxville 20 years ago had a vermeer stump grinder and wood chipper both. and that truck you may actually have to have a CDL to drive that's not a "generator" on the back either that engine is a pump to run and spray out whatever the truck is used to pump out i believe it's for spreading fertilizers or weed killer*

    I used to drive one of those Top Kicks. The red knob on the shifter is for the two speed rear end which means it's a ten speed. The red knob by the PTO lever is probably there to engage the PTO. I don't think it has air brakes as I didn't hear a low air alarm when you started it.

    Back in the day most people I knew hated the new style of the '73 Cutlass and beyond. Olds seemed to be heading for more luxury; same with the '73 Malibu, Lemans and similar. I remember the '79-81 Malibu was a smaller size and made neat hot rods. Only nowadays the bigger '70's cars are more appreciated like that one. We always called boats like a '71 -'76 Impala Grandma's car; Look at the popularity of them now! I have seen some neat restored '73 rides in the last few years; Hard to believe I owned 2 that I drove into the ground. The 1st was a '73 Malibu rust bucket that ran well for $50. After 2 years with that I got a '70 Cutlass Supreme for $500 in 1990. I kept that until 2003 when the frame rusted thru. I also got a '74 Chevelle with 16K original miles from an old lady for $1600 in 1991. I drove that as my DD and the Cutlass was my toy. The '74 got hit a few times and the trans blew in '97 with 90K on it so I sold the motor for $400.

    That 1973 442 reminded me of the '75 Cutlass S I drove in my early 20's in the early 90's. My dad worked at a Olds dealer so my first cars were Olds. It was a coupe with the front seats like that one did. Mine had a little lever on the side of the that you had to depress to unlock it so it would rotate. It was really nice when passengers had to ride in the back seat. That "Rocket 350" was designated by GM as the 350-R motor. It was the only GM 350 that came with hydraulic lifters in it. The engines and transmissions (a TH350 or TH400) were bullet-proof unless you did something stupid with them. This '73 is merely a shadow of what the 442 (which stood for 400 c.i.d. engine, four speed manual transmission and dual exhaust) start out as in 1964. I would buy this car in a heartbeat and restore it to showroom condition. My favorite years of the 442 were '66, '68 and '72. And no, that is not a Hurst shifter that is just the standard shifter. To get that, you had to order the Hurst package which most came white with gold stripping.

    The international with the vermeer on the back is a mixing setup for things like directional boring. You mix powders with water to aid in the drilling process.

      That's it, it is a mud mixer for a horizontal directional drilling outfit.
      For you boomers, many RV parks might not let you park a trailer that old for too long. They are getting picky and only allow the newer rigs.,
      The Cutlass, It's a 73. Would be considered a dog a few years, ago, but might be worth fixing up if you can finds parts. Would cost way more than it's worth

    Randy, you in fact need a CDL to drive a semi, or any truck over 26000 pounds. And most big trucks have jake brakes, which helps slow you down. Also would love you to show and try to fire up that garbage truck, I absolutely love garbage trucks!

    On the GMC Top Kick. The red knob on the shifter is a 2speed rear axle. The Large Red knob is the PTO (power -take-off) the black lever next to it is to raise and lower the bed. I'm a retired truck driver with 40 + years. The federal requirement specifies that, when a vehicle has a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less, the operator does not need a CDL license. ... For example, a truck with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less can tow a trailer with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less and not require the operator to have a CDL under federal requirements.

    I use to have a 75 cobalt.. it was built like a tank for being fiberglass.. but still had a few soft spots in the floor.. one thing to look at is that.. but you have to get up in it and walk around.. and the fuel tank under the floor can be a huge pane in the butt to fix if its old and leaks.. involves cutting the floor out to remove the tank, that one looked to have a access to it tho.. looked like there was a trailer there with no boat.. might fit it.. had a ford 351 engine, the inboard outboard drives need to be checked for water in the gearcase.. can cost a few grand to fix or replace..
    and that is not a generator on the international.. its a hydraulic pump, I would not be trying to start equipment when I don't know what it is, or if it still has fluid in it or etc.. could damage it.. just sayin! enjoy the vids, thanks for sharing

    The Cobalt boat, the scratches on both sides are from a careless forklift driver who doesn’t move the forks out the way before he backs out, after placing the boat on blocks.

  • @mexicanspec

    The name of the car is 4-4-2, not four forty two. That is because it means 4 barrel 4 speed dual exhaust. The middle four can also mean turbo 400 transmission if it is an automatic. Unfortunately the 1973 model is not on anybody's radar. Dealers get an old car and put a high price on it now and think people will pay up. I don't think it will happen on this one considering all the work it needs.
    Also, you didn't even mention the ultra rare factory Am/FM CB radio. That was cool to see one after all these years.

    • @palletwizard
      @palletwizard 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that is a Panasonic CB Radio. And its actually 4bbl carb and 4sp trans and dual exhaust. And it doesn't mean anything else but that. I currently own a '73 442 and it is nothing like that one at the sublot

    • @mexicanspec
      @mexicanspec 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@palletwizard The radio had the original GM knobs, so I doubt it was an aftermarket radio. if you want to believe what you said here, fine. I know what 442 means.

    • @palletwizard
      @palletwizard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look a little closer. It did have the original factory inlay with the knobs
      But it was a Panasonic. We can ask Randy. That is if he bought the car. I checked out the Copart listing and i saw aftermarket CB. And that is a K-40 antenna if you knew what you are talking about.....
