Extra cool info from the web novel I thought everyone might want to know
- before the speech, they actually created a cheat sheet for Subaru, which he ultimately didn't use.
- Subaru was actually supposed to introduce himself first to raise the morale of the townspeople but he forgot. So in the shelter people's perspective, he was a random person.
- Before Subaru introduced himself, the people were already convinced about his statement. So when he actually stated his name it had an even bigger impact (keep in mind that Subaru was the only person who actually gave the witch cult an L)
When Subaru said "I am just a nobody" there was a pause in his sentence in the webnovel. Like changing his mind mid sentence. Not having the courage to say his name and achievement.

More crucial and honestly amazing. I know it's painful to suffer the same, but when you listen to Subaru's speech, what exactly is holding you from rewatching the series again?

@@lukeamparo6586 I’m talking with re:zero overall most shows I don’t like to stay engaged when they speak for too long because I don’t care about the plot but, when I was watching re:zero season 2 it took up a lot of time with dialogue and exposition not to say there was no action but I just like how re:zero is a show that can sit there and make me watch and look into the words spoken.

@daequanhendricks3406 well it's simple. It keeps you engaged because it is about you. Subaru is relatable af when it comes to struggling. When you feel distant to him is when he behaves out of sin of pride, or when he behaves out of pain and suffering you didn't experience firsthand. Everything other than that is relatable and you are feeling that he is you in most of these circumstances. Circumstances builds the character and in reality you always miss some of the circumstances because you are more lucky, but when you compare yourself and Subaru, he is more experienced, hence, you are able to appreciate how his speeches turn out to be because you could do the same if you had the same passion, the same experiences, and made the same choices. Arrogance is something you want to change in yourself but do not know how. Well, look at Subaru. If you want to know what is wrong with you when you are altruistic. You are somewhat autistic in that case, because altruism that doesn't include yourself is basically self-destructive behaviour. That's just how things are. Love yourself and the others. Such simple message in becoming better. This story lives up to its name and you know why. This is "Starting life in another world from Zero". Well, you can say that if you see the world you live in from another viewpoint, then the whole world becomes different to the one before. Change the world, Change how you see the world. Change yourself. Be better. Become what you wanted to be. Be satisfied.
The fact that Al knows Suburu's nickname for Beatrice really sells the theory because he shouldn't have known it at that point.
He could have easily learned it given he can loop whenever he wants to, without a death requirement

I get it, people are use to characters having awesome powers or hella strong or at least training to become powerful, it takes a different type of person to like a character stickly for their mental and personality
My issues with Re Zero mainly stick with Season 1. Onward from that I've got nothing but praise for the show.

In the anime Al is next to a wheel lock that was guarded by cultists, so Al headed for Capella’s tower (while capella was in the government building) in order to save Subaru and the rest most likely because the group / Subaru dies in the battle without flooding part of the city.
Subaru doesn't realize people view him so highly in spite of his weakness, not because of it.
He's strong because his is so weak.

This is a theory that's been going around too. And the fact that when Al defeat the archbishop subordinates, behind him there's a wheel that might be for a water gate control.

Oh, there is absolutely no doubts about that.
When Subaru was questioning why and how the flood happened Al reacts very awkwardly and even defensive in a manner.
It is so obvious that he was the one that flooded the city. He almost confessed when he was trying to get Subaru to stop thinking so deeply about it. Either because he didn't want Subaru to realize who could have done it or because he feared Subaru wouldn't do the speech if he worried about that possibility for too long.

It was either some unknown person we have yet to be introduced to that did it...or Al...and knowing Re:Zero's writing they wouldn't let such an important aspect be left unanswered for no reason.
There is absolutely no doubts Al did it.

No. Subaru grew IN SPITE of misery and pain. They showed he had this strenght in him from the start. The idea of pain struggle and misery makes you stronger needs to die. It only hurts you. You managing to stand up despite them is you and only you

People keep blowing Al's eyes out of proportion.. Sure, they look like Subaru's, but they look like the exact same eyes as over 80% of all the other characters in this anime!
Honestly, i agree.
I somewhat disagree- characters have repeatedly pointed out Subaru’s “scary face”, referencing the sharp downward angle of his eyes, even when smiling. There’s only a couple of characters that also have that from my observation- canonically Subaru’s mom, and from my observations maybe Fortuna? There could be a couple of others, but definitely not even 20%.
I don’t want to believe the theory, but I still think it’s a solid point for it.

The speech was great, I recently got spoiled about Al from a TH-cam short, but it really made me think different about him in the new episode. I plan on binging re zero when the season is over, it’s such a good series
Another little piece of cut content I found interesting, they actually had him rehearse a different speech where he would introduce himself first but then he got up there, got so nervous and forgot everything and winged it and voila!!! Bringing the mood so low that it can’t get any lower just makes it that much easier to now go up. Can’t go anywhere else but up when you go rock bottom
The speech was amazing. Can't wait to hear the english dub. I like the theory that Al is a failed version of Subaru. The idea that the man was summoned multiple times in the history of the world and left a meaningful impact just adds to his coolness factor.

I think Al's abilities were used as the basis for Subaru's RBD by Satella. What if Envy's authority allow her to copy anyone's ability at a glance because she envies that person?

When Subaru was giving his speech I couldn’t help but wonder if him name dropping would back fire in the future with Gluttony. If Gluttony heard Subaru’s name doesn’t that mean he can eat it?
It hit me worse tbh knowing the flies have consciousness similar to humans. Imo its gotta be pretty identical to human on the inside cause i dont see why a big fly can follow directions and one cant. These are the moments that make ReZero great for sure.
The main reason Subaru can't see himself the way people praise him is because he is the only one who sees his failures, because he almost always gets reset and plans accordingly. But to everyone else Subaru is someone that almost never fails what he aims to do and always has some insight on the situation at hand. Subaru is just hung up on all the failures and deaths he's had.
I thought I missed that detail too about Al. So it was actually cut. 😅
Am I the only one who likes the speech more in the novels? the anime was great but novels just felt better, not to mention the speech should have been entirely from the pov of the siblings in the shelter, and not Subaru's, and I was expecting more hype than emotional, so Emilia's insert song although good was misplaced. Just my opinions as a novel reader whose favourite scene of this whole arc was this speech.
I read something online where someone asked what the witch cult thought of the speech and the author tweeted that they literally did not give a fuck so Al proving he knows how the witch cult thinks really ties to the theory that Al's either subaru from the future or something else odd.

When they were introduced I didn't expect to end up liking the princesses as much as I do. I was fully expecting them to be constantly antagonizing Emilias group or be taking advantage of the people, but they all turned out to be endearing in their own way and I can see things turning out ok if any of them wins
As someone who suffered alot of the issues Subaru pointed out to the people and my friend also pointing out how I usually am. Apart of it felt like me standing on the stage I'm kinda all over the place and not strong by any merits but the way Subaru spoke to the people knowing that in his mind he wasn't really the guy. Only to use the one true thing he had, The strength of being powerless.
To finally tell those who also felt powerless, that despite everything that had happened he and the people would fight even with no real magical power was just something that spoke of what people "Thought" he was in the world of re;zero a nobody who had turned into a hero that even conquered against a witch. Alot of the times I'm pushed out of my comfort zone and with what Subaru had to steel himself for, It felt like in a way me trying to reach the hearts of people I didn't even know. A bit parasocial but at least for me it truly made me feel that anyone could break out of the mental shell.

Al being from Japan was pretty clearly stated in season 1 from what I remember. Didn't think it was cut content at all. He notices Subaru call Emilia, Emilia-"Tan", and mentions how this world isn't very forgiving talking about his missing arm. Even mentions Kararagi at some point being like home.

the one thing that got skipped in this episode that really made me laugh is that there were a few seconds were the animation team put the effort to animate anastasia's nervous little habit of petting her fox scarf (because like every little detail or small comment in this series, it ends up being relevant in the future, and you only catch it when rereading/rewatching, it just so happens that this little detail will have it's payoff by the end of this same story arc or right at the start of the following one).
they actually made her move her hand over her shoulder/neck..... but the character design of anastasia doesn't have her fox scarf on her, so she just awkwardly pets the air

On Japanese TV, the Break Time episodes all play right after the normal episodes, while over here, they can't really be found easily through legal sources.

About the Subaru/Al scent. Don't you guys forget that Subaru reeks of witch miasma. So Al for all I know may be missing witch cult archbishop.
Except for the fact that Garfiel can't smell witch's miasma. The only people we know so far who can do that are Ryuzu, Beatrice, Rem and Capella. What Garfiel was tracking down was Subaru's human scent which was pretty similar to Al

@@KrzyszCh The one who was able to smell Subaru's scent there was Ryuzu Balma (The white dressed clone of Ryuzu). She told Garfield about the scent and asked him to kidnap Subaru. Unfortunately it wasn't properly explained in the anime but it was stated in the novel
