    This doesn't need to be a 12 minutes long video.

    so you don't think that converting 4k video to 1080p hd isn't losing quality.

    • @donrikk8546
      @donrikk8546 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hes talking about visual quality not the quality itself. obviously compressing a video will always result in less qualtiy but u can find a happy medium that brings the file size down to reasonable size but also at the least keep the image looking relatively sharp and clear. so yes it isnt lossless by a general term but by the human eye if u cant tellthe difference after compression that would be no visual loss but there is less data.

    • @Ian_Woods
      @Ian_Woods 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@donrikk8546 nope, he's talking about converting a video from 4k to HD. That's different to compressing a video. Although of course you can do both at same time with for instance handbrake. You can compress a video using the appropriate codec, but not change the video resolution. Then yes I doubt if one could see the difference in quality. But no, if you convert a video from 4k to HD then yes you are going to see noticeable loss in quality, unless your blind, I suppose.

    Wait, what? Going from 4K to 1080 is absolutely losing quality! Maybe 1080 is all you need for the device you want to watch it on, which is fine, but don't say you're not losing anything. I used to use handbrake to shrink some videos down to 480 to watch them on my phone, because the small screen didn't need them any bigger than that, and it saved a ton of storage space. But I would never try to watch those 480s on my PC or TV where I have a much bigger screen, because they just can't compete against the full 1080. It's literally the difference between a DVD (480) and a BluRay (1080) .
    What you ought to be explaining here is how to optimize the video for the desired device. For instance, it makes no sense to play a 1080 video on a device that only has a 480 screen. (If you're still using something that only has 480 resolution, bless you.) Find the resolution for the device you're going to be watching the video on, and then match the video resolution to that. Sometimes, as with my phone, you can go lower than the native resolution just because the physical size of the screen is so small your eyes won't notice the difference. You might also be able to change the frame rate, say from 60 fps, to 30 fps. Still technically a loss in quality, but most of the time you probably won't notice. And for goodness sake, make sure to remind people not to delete or overwrite the original! You may wish you had it later.

      I shot a bunch of video on a Go Pro, 2 days of an Expo. Some clips are 25 minutes long and at the highest quality for the GoPro 11.
      I am now trying to edit and make a video for TH-cam. DaVinci Resolve is a bit intimidating for me so I went to Filmora 12 and even there, I'm experiencing lag once adding effects, music, text. I even clicked to create a proxy file. Would this program benefit me to then not experience lagging? I have 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD
      (I'm very new to video editing and not super experienced with today's computers)
      Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • @a8f235
    @a8f235 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    My main issue with this program is that it lacks an estimate of the filesize on that slider, so you could simply drag the slider right or left to the filesize of your choice. How it is now I have to try multiple times on every single file and it is very annoying. There is no way of telling in advance how big the file size will be because it can differ a lot even of similar files of the same file size and format.
    Personally I want to change mkv files to mp4, and just set a cap on the file size output. Why this is not possible is beyond me.

      because setting vary from video to video. play with the slider that says fucking quality, read what the info box says whewn u hover over the slider bar higher numbers less quality smaller file size smaller number larger file size more detail so play with the slider find a high number on the slider using the live preview to check and which ever high number comes out onb the preview as watchable and not bad looking then thats when u encode it. u can also play with other settings like he specifies like dropping it down in resolution while maintaining visual quality on the qualtiy bar or combine thos e 2 methods. u simply have to take the information this person in the video is giving u then use your damn brain to come up with solution. he gave you the needed information to make a decission and understand waht things do now its your turnto take this information so nicely given to you for free and use it to finish your product. that simple. stop getting mad at people giving you free fucking tutorials just because u cant comprehend how simple hes explained it to you. i figured out what he was saying in 5 minutes and ive only used handbrake 3 times in my life. so what does that say about you.

    it kinda defeats the purpose when you compress a 4K video to 1080p,compressing 4K to 4K in x265 would be a better choice,unless your TV is a 1080p,if it is 4K TV you lose detail,one thing tough,it takes ages to compress a 4K gig+ video,even with a fast machine

    If anyone's looking for an actual tutorial related to the title, look elsewhere. This is a very cursory beginner's Handbrake overview with very little attention paid to the title's promises. Let me save you some time, he says to make the video smaller with the preset tab. Right on the front page, what everybody sees and adjusts for every video.
    Thank you for costing me so many minutes when I just really need a serious solution for this problem. Why is it that anyone who's used handbrake a few times thinks they can be an authority on the subject? I've been using it for YEARS, and I would NEVER presume to think I could teach anyone anything about it. Dude. Change the title.

    I've only disabled *Subtitles/Chapters* and
    10:02 I also lower my Audio from 160 to 128 ,
    _which does make a huge difference in the Size output_
    Give it a try..and find out for yourself.
