  • I put this together a few months ago which shows a few clips of the hours of footage that I've taken over the years. I've picked what I think are my most memorable moments. Mostly takeoffs and landings with some other action.

    Hi, I see you resting your wrists forward on the main control bar,and I immediately thought of the tri bars on my bike. You could fit a very lightweight pair? Carbon fibre with a neoprene piece to rest your wrists on. Wouldn’t be expensive. I enjoyed the vid. Thanks.

      It wouldn't be suitable for hang gliding as they'll tangle with aerotow bridles and limit your movement in when your legs are out for launching and landing.
      Glad you liked the video!

    Nice collection of clips - very cool flying. I crashed and had a setback but got back into the sport this year and having a good time - wish I could fly where you’ve flown! Quick question: how do you get your glider over-seas to the various locations like Brazil?

    • @HarrisonRowntree
      @HarrisonRowntree  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Brazil trip was organised by one of our team pilots who worked in logistics at the time and managed to air freight all our gliders over in one go. It's challenging as their customs are strict on the importing of stuff and they want to make sure you take it out of the country when you're done. The China trip was special as the Moyes dealer who invited us over gave us new geckos to fly for the week before they were sold to pilots there. He wanted some experienced pilots to come over and show the up and coming Chinese pilots what sort of cross country flying is possible with practice. They're getting quite good now! It was such a good trip.

      @@HarrisonRowntree That’s awesome, thanks for the info - sounds like you got some nice deals! Part of what excites me is traveling to different places to fly. I hope you continue to have success with your flying!

    Nice vid and flights
    So wondering if someone can help
    I recently received my hangliding license with Tony at Newcastle at start of this year and I've seem to fallen a hole where I need a safety officer and all the equipment of course cause I'm a new student.
    Can someone recommend me somewhere to go? I'm near to the point of going OS. Next to Zero help here in Australia.
    Friggin frustrated Jeff !
    I've heard all the excuses being a 30 year veteran Skydiver/swooppeer

    • @HarrisonRowntree
      @HarrisonRowntree  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Jeff! I know all the aussie hgers would be keen to see more of us around so I'm surprised no one has been able to direct you somewhere. I don't know how Tony operates but you typically don't need to own your own gear to finish a hang gliding course. Though, you will probably want to get in it as soon as possible and keep flying as frequently as possible to keep the skills just like your early skydiving days.
      There is a lot of good used hang gliding equipment available. There are many people getting into the sport who don't have the available time to keep current and unfortunately move on. Have a look at this page for gear facebook.com/groups/822032497915909
      I'm not sure who the safety officers are at the Newcastle Club, but you'll need some of your own gear to start with (helmet, harness, vario and glider). You can get away without a parachute too as most of the coastal flying is so low that you'll struggle to get a parachute out if there was a significant issue. I don't use one on the coast to keep my harness light weight.
      Most of the people know eachother to some degree in hang gliding and if you find someone you get along with, they might be able to tell you more about the condition of the gliders that are being sold and what you should and shouldn't buy. For your first glider, take a look at either an Airborne Fun, or a Moyes Malibu (either the version 1 or 2 of either glider is fine). They're both exceptionally well handling and forgiving gliders to learn in and you'll have a great time with them. They're probably what you learned in too.
      Once you've got your gear sorted, you'll be able to have a safety officer give you a check flight. They're somewhat of a useless thing in hang gliding as all your flying will be solo so there's not a lot anyone can do once you run off a hill, but they'll make sure you know how to set up your glider and equipment and get you to run through your game plan before takeoff, in the air, and landing, etc. After that, it's all up to you!

    Why does every youtuber with a glider think music and flying go together... You cant fricken fly in a music studio or concert hall....

    • @HarrisonRowntree
      @HarrisonRowntree  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably because the sound of wind noise and a vario is tiring after a few minutes.

      @@HarrisonRowntree to some i suppose youre right... but to me music is just a cheap and lazy way of getting out of narrating the flight - which i always enjoy listening to as long as the flyer isnt whooping and hollering every three minutes. i like the wind and the vario... makes me feel more into the flight.
