- UPDATED VIDEO!! Have you ever wondered what are the rarest resources in the game? Or perhaps what is the rarest planet type or the rarest fauna you can come across? Well in this video I will be going over the most rare items you can have in the game along with the most rare things you can actually see, and some of these are so rare you'll likely never see them without knowing exactly where to look.
As a bonus I will also be including some portal coordinates to some of the things on this list in the video at the end so make sure you stick around!

I have over 1400... but only like 500 of that since my job existed again. 😂
And a good portion was spent standing in a station hunting ships, listening for exotics while I did the dishes or watched a movie on my laptop.

I managed to spawn with the other player on ONE starting player. We were separated in about 2 kilometers ingame between ship landing site.
In the eisentam galaxy u got ALOTTA chances to come across other players in the wild

I've just started playing a I run across those walking rocks everywhere. If you spend much time blasting rocks to gather resources you'll find them hiding amongst the piles of rocks.
Yeah I found those everywhere on the second planet I explored on my main save. That planet ended up becoming my "homeworld" so I saw a lot of them XD
Found one 20 hrs in a recent playthough after re-downloading. I could of sworn. I've seen them on other planets too so it must not be that rare.

They live in paradise like planets.
I found a fissured planet right at the start of my playthrough, think it was in the system after my first warp and was where I found my very first salvaged ship after the Pillar. Had no idea how rare it was, but that crash site is also my first base.
Nice, like I said they're not as rare as some things in the game but they're probably the most rare planets 😊
I spawned on one in a survival playthrough and died to a 'wall of fire storm'or whatever the game said was approaching me lmao.

The Photonix Core is available preinstalled in the Starborn Runner, obtained as an end result of completing every phase of the Omega Expedition. It can be repackaged and moved into any other ship. Still hunting for a way to dupe it and put it on all of my ships.

I have a runaway mold farm where the pods spawn amongst a group of rocks, about once a week a rock crab will jump up and run if I hit him while harvesting. I have seen two squid ships in the wild and didn't buy either because I didn't realize (at the time) how rare they are and I don't particularly like the way they look. I do have that light ball and an electric gazelle as pets.
I found a yellow squid in a space station and even tho I wasn't interested in buying, I recruited the pilot to my squadron 🤣🤣
my buddy got this game and his starting planet was a colliding one, he just continued to die

I haven't been leaving yellow system that much on my current main save, but back in my very first main save, I used to encounter planets of light and chromatic planets (ones that are mostly in greys as if they had a filter) a lot. I don't know if that's because I left yellow systems more often or if it was a product of the version of the game that I was playing with at the time, since it was years ago
It's because you left the yellow star system, correct. Blue systems, as example, have higher chance to spawn Light Fissure and other exotic biome planet types.
11:56 You can jetpack from one to the other, I’ve tried. Since the game can only fully load one planet at a time though, it sort of teleports you to the other one once you hit a certain barrier, and about 25% of the time you can clip under the map for a moment.

I remember finding my first squid ship... it was dark purple and was circling the minor habitat I was at. I took off so it could land, but it flew away and i spent the next hour following it through space while calling in my freighter hoping it would land. I eventually gave up. Later, I made a new save on a higher difficulty and wanted to play without ever spending units. A yellow squid ship parked next to me in the space station just a few days in. Guess who broke the rules to his own run XD
Have to say, played no mans sky for 2 - 3 weeks and randomly found a squid ship. So I bought it. Then, several months later, I sold it because I needed a free ship slot. Afterwards I learnt that it was the rarest tipe of ship in no man's sky.
I believe the Photonic core is now available on the new starship you get as a reward for doing the recent (Omega) expedition. There is also a way to duplicate that ship on a second save so you can pack it without removing it from your original save's starship reward.
Since this video was made, they've added a way to get the Photonix Core, if you finished the Omega expedition the Starboard Runner has one equipped. Using the new expedition sub-save feature you could also make copies of it. It's still obtainable by doing the Omega expedition offline on PC, though it's debatable whether that counts as a "legit" way or not.
In the over 2k hours and 4 years I've been playing, I've randomly come across a squid ship twice... and I come across robotic animals all the time, and most of the planets I've come across, has 2, and the walking rocks, I've seen them a few times (but WAY less than the robotic animals) and only 2 were as big as the one in your video, not to mention they weren't random "fauna" they were random from rocks I was using my multitool on, I also come across light planets quite a lot, but the hexagon planets I've only see once on my own
One of if not the rarest thing is white grass, paradise, with blue water, biolumenece grass, planets. I have only found 1 since day 1
I just found this the other day. 20hrs in. No white grass but everything else

Also sorry to hear about the squid ship, i heard about them when i started playing, i went on a mission to find my own... got an orange one after around 20h of hunting😅 was beautiful

I encountered those walking rocks before. Was funny when I was mining rocks but didn’t know they were super rare 😢
I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but I actually got the Atlas Stone as a reward for a mission from a pirate system yesterday. So perhaps it's still available rarely from them.
My friend tried convicing me gravitino orbs were super rare. Within the hour i landed on a planet and proceeded to collect 21 gravito orbs before i got bored of running fro sentinels.
Been playing NMS for about a month and a half and have discovered one of the light pillar planets that isnt in muted color and they are quite beautiful
Walking rocks were extremely common in 1.0
I don't know at what update they dropped off, but I imagine because they were bothersome. You'd be fighting sentinels and then some rocks would get hit and swarm you out of nowhere.
I didn't realize just how lucky I was when I played this game a long time ago. I got back into it and my old save had an S class royalty ship and matching S class royal multitool. The last time I played was just before the sentinal update I think because I had never seen any of the sentinal gear until I logged back on and saw dozens of them in the nexus along with the staff multitools.
That planet you've shown is literally the type of planet where I set up my gold farm 4 years ago when I was a total noob lol. I also got a moving rock on that planet while mining ferrite dust to build more extractors

You should update this as a few things have become less rare and some new things have become more rare. The photonix core is now available through the starborn runner, quad superchargers in a square and a dreadnought is rarest known, and double squid from the first ships to come in when entering or loading a new system, which has now been proven real is extremely rare. Also the rock boi and light planet is rare? I’ve seen 5 different planets with rock boi, with the surface usually being red grass and found 13 different planets with light.
I have only played the game for 10 hours and I’ve found both walking rocks and the light planets, I had the walking rock right next to my base and it scared the shit out of me when it happened. The light planet was in my spawn system and the only life was stone pillars crawling along the ground. This game is crazy it’s so cool it just has these things in it
13:28 planet I visited today totally randomly. It was really terrifying for me after visiting so much normal planets,. I found that planet randomly after 3 days of downloading this game . Really coolest , strangest planet
I just started playing recently (~1 month now). My second sentinel pillar had a red and gray S class royal multi tool in it!
The monochrome light planet was actually one of my first planets I came across in my first playthrough lmao nice

I have a Red & Blue version of the " Squid ". Found both at Trade Posts, on paradise planets with prosperity.
They are Both S-Class, and absolutely wicked in a fight. My Red has 1988LY jump range.
Damn, I didn't know that robotic creatures are rare! I recently found a moon with 3 types of them, I even got one as a companion. Genuinely wouldn't have known without you.

I have had the colliding planets a couple of time and i dont really play that much. It looks absolutely bizarre when you are on the threshold between planets
I am the only person I know who accidentally stumbled across a squid ship. Never felt so shocked in my life
I just got into the game a few days ago and stumbled upon an abandoned A tier solar ship that I’ve fixed up nearly all the way(still have 3 storage slots to unlock) and I still don’t know if I was like *supposed* to find it through the campaign or not
You can get tons of nanites by going to space stations and buying all upgrades with your 50% discount (Being Exalted) then reselling them back for 100%. I've gotten to 300k nanites quick just teleport to all stations that you've been to get more. Be careful with the ship upgrades don't buy the swirly portal reactor looking ones since they cost tons of nanites and only sell for units. Also if you want tons of rep make a base and create tons of those green Cargo Drop boxes and loot them and to reset it just edit it pick it up and cancel it and it'll reset the loot inside of them I got exalted very quick with all the Relics I got.
I found my blue squiddy in a wealthy system years ago, I was jumping to a portal to get a red one I found on reddit and found this one on the way. I have yet to find robotic wildlife, I will 100% build a base when I do. Literally the first planet I started on had the living rocks lol, it scared the shit out of me the first time it jumped out since I was really close to it lmao. I've been lucky enough to come across several colliding planets, it's definitely crazy looking from the surface. I have never seen that multitool, I must have it, I main the alien multitool I found at one of those little outposts. I only have 400 hours, but there are long stents where I didn't play (other games do exist 🤣)

450hrs in Euclid, I’ve come across robotic fauna 3 times and every time it was on a cool planet.
I’ve never seen any rock fauna and I’ve scanned thousands of fauna.
Damn. I got an S class Royal multitool on my first day. Didn’t know what sentinels were, let alone the towers. I just walked into it randomly, like I didn’t even fly over it, I just wandered on foot into it. I really wish I remembered where I got it. It is red with gold trim.
I could probably determine what planet it is on, but I don’t know how many sentinel towers one would need to search for it.
My first and only freighter I found out in space stopping Pirates is an S class lol I felt so lucky.
On my first playthrough I bought a squid ship from a pilot who landed at a trade depot. On my second (VR) playthrough I never once saw one in the wild but I would occasionally see them being flown by human pilots landing in the space anomaly.
I've never once, even in the Space Anomaly, seen another sentinel ship like the one I found. It's a wingless ship shaped like a bug. I also built a homebrew "Horizon Omega" by buying individual ships, scrapping them for the parts I wanted and eventually combining it all together into one ship.
Lastly, there is a 4th faction. One that isn't Korvax, Gek or Vy'keen and a fun discovery for late-game.

I found myself a diplo (i think) recently and a gorgeous red squid ship, it was absolutely worth it sitting in that space station for 2 hours lol
I found a colliding planet back when the game first launched, I didn’t realise it was so rare!
The colliding planets happened to me on my first time playing the game lol......thought it was a glitch. Was on a planet and then boom a planet with a ring just started going up from underneath the planet I was on 😅
I really enjoy NMS and I have found that dumb luck shows up once in a while. After playing about a month after I started about a year ago, I was exploring a new system and stopped in at the space station to upgrade my starter Raza ship. While I was hanging around three green squids flew in at different times. I found that they were all different because, while all S class, their stats were not the same when I scanned them. I didn't have the funds to buy one so my loss. Then months went by and in the last Expedition where we started on a freighter, and about half way through the Expedition, a bright orange squid flew into my freighter. I grabbed it. As for the other rare things, after 1,950 hours I got so sick of being surprised by living rocks that I chased the last one down and eliminated it. I usually find electronic fauna on harsh planets and have one on every save because they are fast and great climbers on mountanous terrains. Haven't come across collided planets and I am not interested. I like to find planets with differnet colored volcanoes and build bases on top of them to watch the flowing lava, feel the explosions, and I try to have a view of two or three other volcanoes as well. Just my preference.
Gotta say that I see waaaaay more planets of light than hexagonal or paradise. If you're sticking to Planet's of Light then the ones that have non-chromatic shaders are REALLY rare. Always with the monochrome light shaders on those ones, I saw one with a purple tint back in the day and never again.
I have randomly saw 2 planets collide years ago and never knew how rare this is both planets wear pretty beautiful but I can't find them again
Two things that might make the list: First, I found a system where the space station is in the ring of a planet. The entire inside of the station looked hazy. Second, the Incinerator weapon for the multitool. I don't believe it's ever "officially" been added to the game. It was discovered at specific locations for a short while, Jason Plays did a video on it, and then it was removed. You can still add it with save editors I guess, but AFAIK it's still not in game officially.
Bunkz: If you're watching this down the line and Hello Games have decided to add in ship customisation in the game which I highly doubt...

Didn't know planets of light are rare. Just had one in a system today, but I've traveled way past it. Might go back in my records to see if I can find it and travel back to the system and check it out. I have come across them more than once though I guess I'm lucky

Well the largest standard freighter I seen was a extremely long enterprise class they do exists I just saw only one though
damn, i must be a lucky traveller! i've gotten a red-tiger squid ship, bountiful planet with small walking rocks, a planet with three types of robo-creatures (including the massive ones), a planet of light, and a dissonant planet with bubbles and luminescent grass (my hands-down favorite). also found a very earth-like paradise planet with the cool firefly ground effects
I found a world coated in perpetual ash cloud once, trying to hunt for damaged ships was impossible, you could not see anything both on foot and by ship, i dimolished my shields with all the times i hit mountains and trees, gave up after my first crashed ship

I found one system with colliding planets. I named the system Derp. I was gonna name it Derp Collision but clicked outside the UI and accepted the name. 😅🤣
Walking rocks can be found on any planet, even airless 😊 I call them rock lobsters, have seen huge right down to the size of the player's boot lol
Woah! I just downloaded the game yesterday and played for a couple hours and saw a walking rock! I feel so special!
I’m kind of disappointed that you didn’t include the rarest thing of all in the game, which is a system with all six main biomes. I’ve been playing this game since day one release and I have yet to find a system with all six major biomes. Literally everything you mentioned in this video I’ve seen myself at one point or another except a star system with all six main biomes.
The mechanical pets aren’t actually that rare but they only get a decent spawning chance in red star systems (10% I think). Since there isn’t really much to do in red star systems due to the lack of buildings, a space station, crashed ships, etc people tend to avoid them and therefor don’t encounter those species very often if at all. Also, it‘s not unheard of to find two mechanical species on the same planet. _Every_ planet with mechanical lifeforms will have exactly two species (both mechanical) which is how you can easily identify those worlds from space by just scanning them and checking the discovery screen.
Robots are pretty easily found on mechanical planets. I have only found one Ossified planet. Found a couple "ossified Star" for the base on it too, but i also found a living one that you can adopt. Can't ride it, but it eats things that mess with me so... 🤷 😅
I've found 2 squid ships in my 8 years and 3k+ hours of play.
I have seen so many of these things and now im questioning myself if i should have saved the coordinates. I think i saw a planet with 2 or even 3 different robotic fauna once and i have had a few planets with spawns for crab rocks
There's no way I saw one of those “colorblind” planets today too. I was fascinated with it because it had almost no color.
I havent come across the planets with rings on them but I have come across a fair share of light planets and the planets with the pillars on them (the last light planet I came across had a ball of light as well but they mostly have a fauna that look like fissures on the ground)
I actually come across planets of light all the time. The rarest planet I've ever seen. Everything was made of TV screens playing static. The leaves on trees were tv screens with static and the rocks were like round TV screens. I've only seen it once and I e been playing since the game came out.bive also never heard anyone else talk about it
I remember having tons of atlas stones back in the day and not thinking it was a big deal and now they are the rarest item 😂
I haven't been playing the game for long, but I have come across 2 sentinel towers. And they both gave me an A-class multi-tool(both the same). Either I got extremely lucky as that being the first omni tool I found, or the changed the rate at which you get it.

I just bought the game and found colliding planets and rocks creatures rolling around I even found robotic rocks rolling around as if they are sentient, I haven’t found walking rocks yet tho, and I found robotic mushrooms fauna planet. It’s a great game, getting the coordinates to anything online kind of ruins the exploration aspect I enjoy, I like to be surprised and discover shit as if it’s real life
Fun fact about light planets, they are far more common at higher tier star systems. Ive seen like 20 and ive got like 200 hours

I have seen so many planets of light, by this point even just temperate planets are rarer to me than them (let alone paradise planets...). The most recent planet of light i found also had those rolling glowing ball creatures

I Found a Planet whis in the wind gentle green gloing grass, permanent rainbow, Purple sky and "soap" Bubbles loating around.
I didn't realize robotic creatures were so rare. I found a paradise planet right next to my starting planet and it only had 2 lifeforms on it. Both were robotic. Can't remember the planet name but it's pastel pink and green.
Coordinates are: Bird, Sunset, Dragonfly, Galaxy, Sunset, Bird, Moon, Hexagon, Diplo, Balloon/Waypoint, Bird, Moon.
I also landed on a planet devoid of colour. I named it 'Noir'
Another thing I only seen once is a planet with anti-gravity storms.
When I come across that walking rocks, I immediately blasted it with mining beam. Its spooked me

I’ve started with my girl a new save and first multitool we founded was yellow royal S class. It was something about 10 mins after starting the game on random planet

I have a robot pet kinda like the one in the video except it doesn’t have that thing on its back and it runs so fast it’s like my #1 way of travel when I’m on a planet

I landed on a super rainy monochromatic planet way back when the game released and it only had aggressive creatures on it with giant mushrooms! Scared the crap out of me so I left 🤣
Ive only just started playing, 80hrs and my 2nd base is on a black n white planet i discovered, cool to know its pretty rare 👍
500 hours is not a bad playtime at all.
They did add ship customization but it is for fighters, haulers, and explorers
my main save is ~ 130 hours, and in the beginning i did some ship hunting, within the first 30 hours at most, i have found 2 different squid ships without coords, however i only remember the galaxy of 1 because i was new at the time I got the first one (whiteish yellow color / tan) the second one i found was purple
