Joan must survive - Joan under threat, dies under a castle in a campaign. El Cid must survive - El Cid under threat, barely survives against camels in a campaign. Attila must survive - Attila under threat, barely survives under a castle in a campaign. Now, Monastery must survive. Monastery under threat, barely survives.
The way you handled this mission was actually very Aztec-like, the Aztecs actually put a lot of effort into capturing their enemies instead of killing them as they would take mass amounts of prisoners home for sacrifices. A warrior was praised for the amount of prisoners he could take as it showed his devotion to the gods and pleasing them with many sacrifices.
7:06 "Everyone's in Feudal Age, though. So I don't think we'll struggle against any army type..." 7:26: "Oh. Where are we-- oh sh-- *gasp* It's arches, though. We can't deal with that! The hell? How am I suppose to beat that!? I've got 3 goddamn eagles."
On the mayority of this campaing, with his insane micro, TheViper is gonna go full monks and get himself a pretty army of Conqs. You know it, I'll knot it, everybody knows it...
To be fair the micro isn't insane. you can do the same by control-grouping single monks, it's way faster and safer than having a group of monks and control-excluding one after choosing a convert target. Personally I never have more than 2 or 3 control groups active (one or two for army, one for production buildings) so you might as well use them for monks. It really feels good when you stop a krush like that online.
Oh fuck yeah :D I've played a random civ arena match today. I had Teutons, my enemy Franks. He had all the map control since I fucked up a little during feudal age. Once I hit castle I made like 10 monks and a few skirms and pikes to protect them. He had all of the game in his hands, but I just converted so many mangonels and knights (later Chevs/Palas), that he was forced to research the super expensive anti-conversion stuff. In the end he blew every single bit of gold on the map into units and expensive upgrades, while I had an army consisting of frankish knights, chevs, paladins and just slowly trebbed him down. :D Feels way too good man! (Especially if you're a 1550 HD scrublord)
"I hear the growl of the Jaguar... is this a bad omen?" Viper: "Probably not. A few jaguars around. No problem" *sees jaguars approaching* Viper: OH SHIT! JAGUARS! BAD OMEN, BAD OMEN!"
hahaah the pronunciation was terrifyingly hilarious :D man I remember when I first got AoC way way back and I only had the trial, this was the only map I could play as far as I can remember, used to play this over and over again :)
Same. Just when AoE2 got famous and they release AoC in demo. Brought back good memories. Still I've been playing for so long and not even near the viper's skills.
The opposite for me. I detested the Aztec campaign, and was put off of using the new Aztec civ because of it. But don't worry McMallister, very few people in the world are even near viper's skill.
Give Viper a break with the pronunciation. I am Mexican and it's difficult even for us haha. He is from a Nordic country (I think) speaking in English and trying to say Nahuatl words haha.
What's funny is that many times the intro cutscenes just showed him how to pronounce new names literally 5 seconds earlier. But not paying attention to narration and rushing through everything are the Viper's trademarks
Me imagino que así se han de sentir los noruegos también cuando nosotros intentamos pronunciar nombres como Jäerheggr Refreshingbeverageholder jajaja (sí, ya sé que el apellido es chiste de AoM pero ese nombre está chido)
All videos of Age of Empires 2 are too quiet. It seems to be a conspiracy among the community to force people to turn up their volume and then get their ears blasted at the next TH-cam video with normal volume levels.
biper Quetzalcoatl means feathered snake so could you please call it fluffy biper instead :D? or something similar idk, may creativity be with you as it has always been
When I did this mission I just attacked all my opponents until they resigned before I even went anywhere near the temples. All I had to fight were like a dozen eagle warriors (obliterated by jaguars) and that big pack of jags in the west. It was fun up until that point, and then oddly lonely when there were no enemy units left on the entire map but the game wasn't over.
5:56 "I've a feeling we're gonna be making quite a lot of monks in this campaign" That's not a feeling, Viper. That's just your subconscious, telling you "Hey, Viper, remember 3:13?"
Love your videos and stream Viper, I think that you are one of the most important characters in terms of bringing AOE2 back to being a popular watched game. Wish you the best, and keep up the great work. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👍🏻
@ 21:32 you clearly clicked on the boar , even the villagers name changed to hunter after he was just building Also this is something that always bothers me , please look around the map after the end of each episode sometimes you can find some interesting stuff
I just redid this level in DE on Moderate. Fully admitting that I over-microed the first minutes and disrupted my economy, but it was remarkably difficult. They attacked the left side, so I built more towers, and some walls, and barely managed it. Then purple sent a dozen swordsmen and some archers from the north while I was constructing a castle threw away my eagle warrior & skirmisher army and a third of my villagers trying to buy time. Eventually the castle was finished and my own swordsmen began to form a proper little unit. 75 unit limit, and the three enemies is tough. They end up sending 40-60 units at once at times.
Can't believe you did not notice the snake that sneaking edge of the Mexico map appeared at 0.44 lol you were literally there mann:)) TheViper witness'ing the history of Astec's :))
I believe the pronunciation of jaguar that was used by the voice actor is the american way of saying it and the standard Jaguar is the english/european way. I might be wrong though.
Got attacked at home since 25:30 gametime, but didn't bother to watch his economy once till the end at 32:51 gametime. Every minute he didn't look, I was more exited to see what would be left over. :D
Go directly to victory conditions. Do not pass Go; do not collect $200. Blindly assume there is no followup objective to fulfill which would give your enemies time to trigger a failure condition. (doesn't happen too often, but it happens)
hahahha as a Mexican I don't care about the pronunciation of theViper of Náhuatl (the language where those strange names come from), but certainly I can't stop laughing. My favourite "Quetzalcoatl"
i only have the trail version and its soo annoying because i cant get it on my old computer ( since it is dead) and my new cant download anything, so i am stuck with montezuma and the reign of blood ( tbh if i suddenly was to play all the others i would be salty af)
The fact that they didn't force you to play blue in campaigns and chose a color that fits the civilization was such a nice feature, I don't know what the fuck happened with aoe4 where you can't even pick a fucking color in a custom game
Joan must survive - Joan under threat, dies under a castle in a campaign.
El Cid must survive - El Cid under threat, barely survives against camels in a campaign.
Attila must survive - Attila under threat, barely survives under a castle in a campaign.

Come for the micro, stay for the pronunciation.
take a shot every time he butchers a pronunciation
Viper: "Tennok-Tight-Lawn"
Matthew McNeany more like Tenoch-thailand
easy to say! (^_-)
He pronounces it "Tenochitlan". He just takes out the first t.

Someone with a Actual Historical Point!!!
7:06 "Everyone's in Feudal Age, though. So I don't think we'll struggle against any army type..."
7:26: "Oh. Where are we-- oh sh-- *gasp* It's arches, though. We can't deal with that! The hell? How am I suppose to beat that!? I've got 3 goddamn eagles."
Obvious sarcasm is obvious ;)
"Well I guess we'll just let them shoot that house forever"

Spoilers dude he doesnt know who his opponents will be
I loved this game so much way back in 2002
"I hear the growl of the Jaguar... is this a bad omen?"
Viper: "Probably not. A few jaguars around. No problem"
*sees jaguars approaching*
Viper: OH SHIT! JAGUARS! BAD OMEN, BAD OMEN!"

He is Norwegian ...

watching the viper playing the campaigns is just like watching lebron toying with eastern conference lol
I don't know if it's just me, but the volume of the game seems to be too low to me. I can barely hear anything from the game
Ye the audio balance has to be adjusted in the recording software
All videos of Age of Empires 2 are too quiet. It seems to be a conspiracy among the community to force people to turn up their volume and then get their ears blasted at the next TH-cam video with normal volume levels.
Orange actually has new units spawn in once you take the monastery
Hearing viper trying to pronounce the aztec names is the best thing that has happened to me in my life
$50 that Viper lets Montezuma die before mission 5.
He's not a playable hero, neither is Cuathemoc so this challenge is null and void!
You mean mission 4?
Are you seriously giving Viper a free pass on his bloody rampage?
Yes, yes I am!
If it will be mission 4 then biper is a bloody madman and must be stopped.
Voice acting 1000% much better than Definitive Edition.
23:38 Animal cruelty at it's finest.
Let's call PETA.
Endangered animals, no less!
"Jagwire warrior"
I remember playing this as a trial mission. Played this map for like 10hr matches in various ways ;-)
watching el biper doing these campaigns makes me look up my history lessions every time, my teacher would be so proud ;-)
bourneville pringle you mean the stone temple didn't actually spontaneously combust with fire proof water?
I remember playing this mission in the demo. I didn't even understand english at that time too much.
When the music in the first prologue starts playing .. i'm getting goosebumps every time.
fav campaign
the most tragic one. I cri everytim
I want to see him play the boiling lake, that one makes me salty every time
this is already my favourite campaign hearing you try to pronounce those names. love it
The return of #OhNo

your most dangerous enemy will be purple, dont attack him before...
viper - MONK RUSH

I'm mexican and I loved this video because of your pronuntiation of our weird words haha :P (sorry for my bad english)
yeah Viper goes full murloc when tries to say Quetzalcoatl lol
"Oh shit, it's a bad omen!"
exactly what I expected to hear
awesome ending i almost had a heartattack 11
You attacked the boar @ 21:30
Watch it in 0.25x speed and you will see the high APM 11
Challenge: Win all the aztec missions building only monks
It didn't say you would get attacked early, scouts reported that tlatiluco could be dealt relatively early.
Love your videos and stream Viper, I think that you are one of the most important characters in terms of bringing AOE2 back to being a popular watched game. Wish you the best, and keep up the great work. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👍🏻

What did I miss? :s
I dont know iv never played these campaigns , you used to do that for the earlier campaigns and it was nice
Viper: Early for me would be like NOW!
*move eagles away the path for orange archers to attack*
This old narration has more emotion in it than the new one.
Lucky for Viper, there isn't a hero in the campaign for him to keep alive.
How come the trees are so small ??
rly enjoying the campaigns viper - thx for the videos
21:35 It is funny the fact that the most dangerous threaten when attacking Xochimilco was the boar.
I just redid this level in DE on Moderate. Fully admitting that I over-microed the first minutes and disrupted my economy, but it was remarkably difficult.

75 unit limit, and the three enemies is tough. They end up sending 40-60 units at once at times.
I used to always take advantage of the AoC AI and send a bunch of villagers to the northern shrine to drop a castle and make jaguars.
cant wait till viper gets to the newest single player campaign, they did a really good job making it quite more difficult.
Can't believe you did not notice the snake that sneaking edge of the Mexico map appeared at 0.44 lol
you were literally there mann:)) TheViper witness'ing the history of Astec's :))
I believe the pronunciation of jaguar that was used by the voice actor is the american way of saying it and the standard Jaguar is the english/european way. I might be wrong though.
Awwww yish, get back from gym and there's a new viper campaign!
Got attacked at home since 25:30 gametime, but didn't bother to watch his economy once till the end at 32:51 gametime.
Every minute he didn't look, I was more exited to see what would be left over. :D
Totally cheesed that campaign, "captured" those shrines xD
That's how everyone does it.
Lol I did the same too, always expected that someone actually tried to conquer all 3 enemies before getting the shrines. But thats just me...
Schubert I always have conquered them. Maybe I am the exception xd
Fun fact: if you use the black death cheat to kill all the AI in this scenario you still have to go to all the shrines.
I did kill the 3 enemies while getting the shrines on the way.
Ah.. now to start from the beginning and see where how far he's come.
I knew there were some more birds! Those western herdable disappeared for me, I think red stole them.
The amount of frustration I felt watching this man play is immeasurable. 😭💀
Here, 7 years later

How he converted all enemy archers at once?? 21:15
Thanks for making these videos
Moctezuma II "Xocoyotzin", Emperor of the Aztecs, Lord of Mexico-Tenochtitlan.
it's annoying how they pronounce jaguar wrong :/
Jaguar a la verga
A bit ironic that archers, spearmen and men-at-arms all look better than their later versions. Especially the man-at-arms.
I learned more History from Age of empires than in school
hello everybody, where can i find an actual list of the AOE2 ratings? thanks :)
20:46 "Ohh noo!" xD
finally he realised they were attacking his base XD
Why are the trees so smal o_O
Will you be doing the other expansion campaigns like The Forgotten?
the eagles are coming!
Oh God Biper my heart
They should allow multiplayer campaigns here. Imagine if viper's opponents were slam, daut and bact in this campaign less than three xD
I'm really looking forward to the windlandsaga :) I never managed to win it when I played it as a child
HOW TO SELECT EACH MONK TO CONVERT EACH ENEMY FAST?
Hey viper thought i'd ask you who your favourite civ is out of all the main game and conquerers civs are
Mayans and Huns probably are the civs I have the most fun playing.
Mmm cool, huns for me (hate building houses)
Vipers Oh No... Love Ir!!!!
hahahha as a Mexican I don't care about the pronunciation of theViper of Náhuatl (the language where those strange names come from), but certainly I can't stop laughing. My favourite "Quetzalcoatl"

but he do for the full game ?, ak, ror, and tf?
Game sound too low biper ):
FLAWLESS VICTORY
You can just lure the archers to your TC, and kill them with garrison fire
did the narrator voice changed? I have the impression that it's quite different from the AoC
Montezuma LOOOOOL. Is Moctezuma
21.19 More Archers Donated towards the Cause.... lmao
No heroes to get killed in this campaign. Feelsbadman
I love you and your pronuntacion hahahah , i am from latin america. Greetings from argentina viper♥
