Broken Down in our Jeep 1,700 Miles from Home!

  • On our way home from Jeep Beach in Florida, we stopped off at Outlaw OffRoad Gulf Coast in Mississippi to have a fun afternoon with some fans...or so we thought. The Demon Child, our 800+ HP Jeep Wrangler, had other plans for us. And after being away from home for over 5 weeks, tearing down and repairing a broken Jeep was definitely not on our to-do list...but if there's anything we're good at, it's adapting to and conquering the challenges life throws at us.

    As you shared, Glad this did not happen on the trail. An assortment of hose clamps have been part of my spare parts kit along with spare fuses, tire valve stems and valves, lug nuts, and many other items. Glad you are home and enjoying PB & Jelly. Thanks for sharing.

    Just a note if you ever need a bigger clamp you can put two of them end to end to make a bigger clamp in a pinch.

    Glad you got it fixed and made it home. I learned years ago to swap those hose clamps out for ones you can tighten. If you never remove them they seem to work fine, but once you squeeze them together to remove them they lose some of their strength.

      Military grade clamps and battery clamps should be used in rigs especially like Demon.

      Definitely T-bolt (turbo / intercooler) clamps on everything. Just have to order them in the right size you need as they don’t move much. Those factory style clamps are worthless as you guys found out the hard way.

    I’m new and clarifying peanut butter & jelly was helpful. Thanks for showing all the emotions, we definitely know the feeling when something goes wrong it’s a downright bummer. To be about to go home and something breaks. I would also feel the same way. The sadness, agitation, frustration, being annoyed, and just being perturbed of why me! Of just wanting to go home, and your reliable baby, the demon child is broken. My emotions too would run wild.😂 1:32

    Pressure goes up after the engine is shut off for a bit. Once it has a chance to cool down a little the pressure drops back down. That's why the overflow tank changes levels.

And Brit has the Blues (Sky, Shirt; but not eyes) and Happy Birthday! Clamps are a pain. Hotel room sinks make great laundry facilities, but trying to air dry clothes in Louisiana? Fagitaboutit ! When you eventually get home, you are going to need to drain that coolant as you mixed Organic Acid Coolant (what it should have) with multi purpose coolant. They will react with each other. So once you get home, drain it, and fill it with just the organic acid. You probably already knew this, but I would hate for you to get a hole eaten into that 392.

    Those spring clamps always fail. High pressure will blow the hose right off of the stem. Our Ford Crown Vic cruisers used to have that issue on hot calls if your pushing the cruiser hard. The sudden spray of coolant all over the place was wonderful, especially at speed. (Not so good!). I’ve also had spring clamps rust out and crack on our JKU and my Ram 2500. I just replaced all the spring clamps with conventional hose clamps on both of our vehicles to avoid the inevitable. Glad you made it home! Stay Safe!!!

    Definitely sucks having to do repairs when on the road. Last time we went to Colorado, one of my niece's rear brakes froze up in Kansas after having driven from Ohio. Luckily she made it to the hotel we were staying at with an Autozone a few miles away and my F250 stocked full of tools. But it was 100 out and not how I wanted to spend my time after driving 14 hours lol.

    Good video on patients and perseverance. I'm a handy mechanical type but would have had to do a bit of complaining and a make more than a few colorful words to describe my frustration. Good work on the Jeep and keeping your cool;) Also if it hasn't been mentioned, if you repositioned the coolant container with the handle sideways you can get the pore opening closer to the radiator opening.

    I know that a lot of people don't like stop leak type products, but the pellet version of Bars-Leak works. If you're concerned about the smuts left in the cooling system after a repair, machine dish washer soap and water will clean the system and heater core. Safe on aluminum, brass, copper, and plastic.
    I don't do any road trips without coolant, oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, belts and hoses plus the Bars-Leak product

    • @LiteBrite
      @LiteBrite  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stock vehicles break down every single day. Lots of issues with every vehicle make. What’s important is that they take care of you and AMW ALWAYS takes care of their customers and they do it super fast unlike most dealers these days that have a wait time and back ordered parts. I’ve put over 10k miles on this and have jumped it and ran it at highway speeds through whoops and desert. Having a fan clearance issue after abusing the vehicle isn’t really all that bad.

    • @erievon1
      @erievon1 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right on point. Remember this is a highly custom build, you're going to have hiccups. But if AMW jumps right on helping you solve it and iron out the gremlins, can't be too upset.

    I'm glad you finally made it home without any "dyin' by the side of the road repairs. Vehicle trouble can be a real kill joy on a road trip. I'm sure everyone at the "Meet and Greet" felt for you and had no problem understanding why you weren't at your greatest. There seems to be a bit of debate about the worm gear clamps and the original spring clamps. The worm gear clamps unevenly and that is why the OEM doesn't use them. The spring clamps loose their ability squeeze after they have been removed. I've decided to go with the OEM clamps and buy a new set as needed. Hoping not to jinx myself-So far, so good.
