I have a vague memory of when Docherty was announced on telly that he was going to manage Derby, the music 'hey big spender' was playing....just googled it to see if any footage...but no....
Totally 100% agreed. At junior school at the time but still remember Charlie as a great goal scorer and his hat trick against Madrid in 1975. Docherty should have stayed at Utd and carried on bonking the physio's missus. LOL
In his own sort of way thr doc was a great footballing man. He never recovered from.being sacked by manu and he went downhill.from.there going through the motions at a lot of clubs. He was appointed manager of derby because he was a big name and available
Derby had some great sides in the 70's but shot themselves in the foot by sacking both Cloughie & Dave McKay who'd won them those titles. Docherty did well for Man Utd but wrecked Derby with some sub standard signings and getting rid of established quality players.
Derby didn't sack them, if I rmbr right, that they resigned & walked out from the club expecting the chairman Sam Longson to concede to their demands, but he didn't & Clough & Taylor realised they'd got it wrong. Longson actually was ok & Clough did test him a lot. It was all about his media forays & Sam wanted him to just concentrate on managing. Fat chance of that!
What a player! ..another Character. Good Luck

I think Derby destroyed themselves by not keeping faith with Dave MacKay.
