Now THIS was a great one for some deep vocal analysis -- Dimash's voice is incredible, with so many interesting facets/characteristics to break down. I really enjoy digging in to all the tricks in his bag of vocal versatility -- there's SO much to consider. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did! ALSO, IMPORTANT PSA: Guys, we reached the $12,000 goal for the music video! I am shocked and so, so grateful for the level of support I've gotten on this project. If you head to the GoFundMe page, you'll see that the goal has been adjusted to $15,000 since there is still plenty of time before the video shoot -- full details on the GoFundMe page for what the extra funds will be used for! Thank you all x 1000000 -- cheers :D

😁 SOS sure is a vocal rollercoaster... (I just have to tell about a fun little story from when Dimash was rehearsing a performance with Aida Garifullina, a professional opera singer. Aida, as she had to leave, turned to Dimash and said "you can keep practicing, sing my part too" 😆)

The program is a competition sponsored by the government of Belarus. He was not a contestant here, he was a guest performer. He was on this same stage in 2015 winning the grand prix. He was again invited here in 2021 where he served as one of the panel of judges. At least one of his fellow judges was among those who gave him the win in 2015. DEARS from Europe and other countries, particularly the Chinese, had flown to Belarus to show their support to Dimash.

Cannot wait to see your video!
I was a classically trained singer when I was young but due to some very severe trauma (being strangled many times and having my larynx crushed) plush chronic esophagitis caused me to completely stop singing for over 25 years. It was like I “forgot” about that part of my life. I guess trauma does that 🙁
Thanks to Dimash I have started working on my voice again. I know it will probably never be close to what it once was but the world of vocal music was magically unlocked for me when I first heard him. It was Ogni Pietra. It saved my life to be completely honest. I was in a really bad flare of lupus/scleroderma thT affects my heart and lungs. I was so sick and I could barely get out of bed. I would listen to him sing Ogni pietra over and over and it would inspire me that I COULD make it. I am an artist and it calls out to the poets and warriors and it spoke so deeply to me. It took a year for me to recover, but it’s three years later and I am not only up and out of bed but I just bought a basket for my dog to ride on ON MY BIKE!! 💪🏼🙏🏼🤟🏼
Good luck to you Peter. You have a phenomenal voice. 😍 keep following your dreams!!

I'm so glad that you have found a way to heal from your trauma. I can only imagine how it feels to reclaim your voice after so long, but I'm not surprised that other health benefits have followed. You will forever feel a sense of connection with Dimash for the inspiration and hope that he has given you. Truly, this is the redemptive power of art and music.

@@Ozymandi_as yes! Truly!!!! I also reclaimed my passion for art that I had no idea I was any good at. Lol. Watercolor was my first love as a kid, and will probably always be my favorite medium though. 🥰

Another singer you might enjoy reacting to is one of Dimash's major influences: Lara Fabian. Her performance of Je Suis Malade in her special From Lara with Love is an absolute masterclass in emotive singing. No one pours their entire self into a song like she does.

If you want to hear intimate even more than this you should definitely react to his performance of Ikanaide 2021 from the 20th Tokyo Jazz festival.
Also just as a point of clarification he does not always go to his high notes or belting. It depends on what the song calls for and he has several performances where he stays in his middle range the entire song.
There is also a video that might interest you with Dimash and Andrea Bocelli "playing around" vocally backstage at an event with Andrea playing the piano.

I'm pretty sure that the Slavic or Slavianski Baazar is a large festival held in Belarus yearly. Also I would highly recommend watching his duet with the Peking Opera singer Li Yugang for a very unique sound, or Love is Like a Dream for if the very breathy more intimate sound.

That F#5 is clearly his “comfort” zone. He goes there a lot. Thanks! He does some spectacular belting in his song Daybreak at Bastau 2017. 🔥
He also sings a bit without the mike in his song Autumn Strong (Arnau tour) at the end.

I loved your analysis. I also love how a super talented singer like yourself truly appreciates a talent like Dimash. I have seen some singers reacting to Dimash, who literally questioned their existence as singers and stopped reacting to Dimash! I always thought that if I were a singer, I would use Dimash to figure out what's possible and the different ways a voice could be used to denote different emotions, etc... But Dimash has been honing in his talent since he was 5 years old. I truly believe that very young singers should get a whole lot of knowledge of where they want to go musically by studying the decisions that Dimash had to make.

20:52 - the look of "horror" (in the best way possible) on Peter's face because of the way Dimash is absolutely murdering (also in the best way possible) this song, got me giggling. And the fact that it was followed by immediately contentment because, you know, it's Dimash, cracks me up too!

SOS, is a song from Starmania, a Canadian-French cyberpunk rock opera written in 1976. This is a song about depression & thoughts of suicide. Enjoy the journey, you've only just begun. .

S.O.S. of a Soul in Distress
Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I laugh, why do I cry?
Here is the SOS of a man in distress

I've never had both feet upon the ground
    I'd rather be a bird
I don't fit into this skin
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
    If ever it were beautiful
It's lovelier from above, from above
    I've always confused life
    with the comic strips
    Even wished I could transform
    I feel something
    That draws me
    That draws me
    That draws me up

Into the great lotto of the universe
I don't have the right numbers
I don't fit into this skin
    I don't want to be a robot
    Eating, working, sleeping

Why do I live, why do I die
Why do I live, why do I cry
    I think I'm catching waves
    From another world
I've never had both feet upon the ground
    I'd rather be a bird
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
    I'd rather be a bird
    Sleep, child, sleep

Plus there is a concert performance of Autum strong, where he ends the performance with an operatic note pulling the microphone completely away from he’s mouth to show the strength of he’s voice, he wears a red suit and he starts the song sitting on a stool. And there are some random videos of him singing for sudden request that suggest the body of he’s volume. Blessings.

You're one of the most in-depth analysts I've seen on this platform. You fully understand and explain even the most minute changes and techniques noone else has done, yet.
It's really captivating to learn how exactly the techniques are being used and when, and lastly why.
I rarely get imagined pictures in my mind, but this video specifically did that after having listened to a couple of reactions prior to this.
I believe I'm starting to grasp the musical technical aspect thanks to you.

I heard this song sung by Dimash maybe ten or twelve different versions. This one is perfection and the Digital Show's is the transition to eternity. But there are others as powerful as these two, beautiful, more or less intimately sung. Simply amazing all of them. It was composed 20 years before Dimash's birth but it is definitely his.

I really enjoyed your reaction-you should listen to Dimash’s duet with Li Yugang, a traditional Chinese opera singer who specializes in singing female roles. They sung Drunken Concubine + Diva Dance. Incredible vocal performances from both singers, and Dimash really shows his vocal control in the high registers here.

    Amazing observation and break down.
Dimash started singing this song I believe in 2012 and performed it every year up until his recent Dubai concert [both performance and in concert], except maybe last year 2021 and every version has obvious improvement up until 2020. This year's recent performance, has a few spots pulled back but nonetheless great performance!
There was a version in Acapella, no microphone in an opera house, but I couldn't find the link. There is a link to the Acapella version with microphone tho.
Good luck with your video project!

This was Dimash’s first major exposure to the world. It is a competition, and the audience and the competitors backstage are hearing him for the first time. He is 22 years old here. He kills it, as always. There is another video on TH-cam where Dimash goes back to visit his music teachers, and his main voice trainer. He was asked if Dimash was a natural baritone who he helped develop his upper range or, is Dimash a Tenor who he helped develop his lower range. The opera teacher, said that Dimash is definitely a Tenor, no question about it.

Dimash 2022-Vocal range: Growls (vocal fry): G0-G1
    Vocal Fry: G#1 - D2
    Chest voice: E2-C#5
    Mixed voice: D5-C6
    Head voice: C#6 - F#6
    Whistle: E7-D8
    Natural range: E2 - F#6 4.2 octaves
    *Full range: G0 - D8 7.7 octaves
    To put it in context:
He sings lower than bass in Opera. The lowest note is usually C2....and higher longer sustained whistle note.
Total Dimash range is G0-D8. By the way, a D8 is a couple of keys past the end of a piano.
He hits the D8 near the end of this song, which he wrote at age 19: "Unforgettable Day" GAKKU Concert th-cam.com/video/u52XDilf628/w-d-xo.html
And one for fun: Movie trailer for: Across Endless Dimensions th-cam.com/video/9efIWFhD8a4/w-d-xo.html

It's so good to understand, in theory at least, what Dimash ist doing, technically speaking, because most of the Dears are not professional singers, of course...We just love his voice, music and emotion. To be able to comprehend the high level of difficulty of his performances makes me even more appreciative of his talent, genius and especially hard work. Thank you so much for your input. By the way, you are a magnificent singer and your voice is simply amazing, when singing and speaking as well ( sorry for my English, it' s a little bit rusty). Thanks for the reaction!
You were commenting on how his tone at the end just fades into air - interestingly, he has been working on that technique a lot for the last couple years to the point where he uses breath artistically in some of his later performances. If you go back to Stranger, he uses it some in the beginning part.
I also recommend Love is Like a Dream (the one on his channel) for some of his most sensitive singing.
Looking forward to a reaction of some of his work with other singers - I think I already recommended his trio of Ti amo cosi with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina, and someone else mentioned him singing with an operatic tenor.

It's impossible not to break "character" while listening to Dimash, you have an amazing technical analysis but at some points the analyst in you just gives way to the music lover and it's great to see you just enjoy his magic. Great reaction and keep them coming. PS : You should definitely react to Across endless dimensions where he has a belt that sounds like an electric guitar. It's a soundtrack for a movie and it has a more "rock" feel to it. I think it will be your wheelhouse :)

Great review Peter, very knowledgeable, and your speaking voice is a thing of wonder.
I agree with your comments on the difference between D's operatic baritone / tenor range - he seems to manage both - and the sound of fully committed opera singers. His sound is quite a bit lighter, though I'm sure he could probably find those darker harmonics if he went looking. I can't speak about his volume much, but I have been in close proximity to professional opera singers, and they do make the most phenomenal shitload of noise - you kind of feel your own sinus cavities resonating, it's a bit alarming at first.
His counter-tenor / soprano does seem to have an incredibly brilliant sound, and people say whitle when he's up at that E and D6, but it's still supported and spunning. It would be fascinating to him he really have a go at some of those baroque arias from Handel, Gluck, and Mozart's opera sería. I know that his mum was an operatic soprano, and he was trained very carefully through puberty, and somehow hung on to his boys treble, even as reached manhood. This can't happen very often in this day and age, and so the question that occurs to me is how closely his sound might resemble that of some of the celebrated castrati of the C18th such as Farinelli? The last castrato in the Vatican choir was recorded before he died in 1922, but at quite a great age, so we don't really know what they sounded like. In the C18th they were huge stars of the opera, and accounts suggest that they were able to generate a thrillingly powerful sound. It would be interesting to know if you or any of your colleagues might have a view on this question?
If you've not seen it already, he does a slightly restored version of the alien aria, Diva Dance, from 5th Element. It's only brief, but long enough for your jaw to hit the ground. He has some really power notes, eye popping stacati, and a couple of runs and slides that go lower than than any female soprano could possibly reach.
