How is it that I missed them for 30+ years??? I shazamed this great song I heard on a wildcat radio station. I have never heard them on commercial radio. So now I'm listening to everything they wrote.
They changed my life. I was into aggresive music, my favorite Minessota bands were HÜSKER DÜ and REPLACEMENTS. Early SOUL ASYLUM too. But THE JAYHAWKS are on the same level as the legends. They sound old, but fresh. HOLLYWOOD TOWN HALL is one of the greatest albums i heard in the last 30+ years. Very emotional album/record
One more reason I'm proud to call MN home. There are few places in the country like it. The astonishing amount of quality, iconic music is proof that two weeks of sub zero weather in January is actually good for you.
John...that was fantastic. I found this looking for Jayhawks live on TH-cam...later i remembered not only how masterful they are and have been for some time...but I also recognized an old college professor ;) Great interview.
Marc Olsen walking away from the Jayhawks was the best thing that ever happened to them. It would be a poorer musical world without Sound of Lies, Smile, and Rainy Day Music. Karen is their secret weapon, gorgeous harmony vocals and sophisticated and classy keyboards.
There's an upside to being "too good", Gary. The Jayhawks could have been one of the biggest draws at Woodstock '69 and, if the planet survives, your music will still be widely enjoyed in 2069 and far beyond. For years now, essential listening for people round the globe.
this band is very underated. it should be up there with the beatles, the byrds, csn, rem and many other high profile bands. mark olson and gary louris together, is or maybe was one of the best songwriter teams we have in the music. . and i feel that mark olson is john lennon and gary louris is paul mccartney. thats their dynamic.
Maybe it would help if Gary knew how much his music means to OTHER people.. it has saved many. Thanks! Now... get back with Mark and write because you two are astounding together
Gary one of the best song writers to ever walk the face of this earth.
And he was in our studio!!!!! Sometimes we don't even believe this is reality anymore.
Absolutely
What harmonious sounds, what thoughtful writing. This band are ironclad evidence that real songcraft is alive and in demand.
These guys have been through a lot. Thank God for the Jayhawks
This band sounds great. Super-tight, with their trademark, beautiful harmonies.
I am so glad for Gary.. YOU are the reason the Jayhawks have survived and thank you from the bottom of my heart
Outstanding band! Great songs! Love your Music!
It's great to see and hear the Jayhawks again. I'm happy for the personal victory. Thank you for sharing Gary.

Jon Hart, it's so great to see you doing something like this with KCPT. And the bonus is that I love The Jayhawks.
Thanks John! We are happy to be working alongside of KCPT. Been a lot of fun having bands like Jayhawks in and getting to capture it all.

That leaves the Question: Should you make albums after touring-or even remake it? Or record every single gig and make a live one?
