Elvis's music possesses a timeless quality that evokes strong emotions. His powerful voice, emotive delivery, and relatable lyrics connect with listeners on a deep level. Even for those who never had the chance to meet him, his music carries a sense of nostalgia and a reminder of a bygone era. This emotional response is a testament to the lasting impact he had on the music industry and the hearts of his fans.

Elvis kept splitting his pants, so a gentleman named Bill Belew was asked to make these one piece jumpsuits for Elvis so he’d have more flexibility and he made every one of them since. See how Elvis can take you from one end of the spectrum to the other? From crying to smiling and laughing. What a gift he was to us. Good bless Seph and enjoy “The Elvis” for the rest of your life cause once you’re hooked and then you learn more about him, the more you’ll want to learn. Thanks for both tributes today. They were Bangers‼️💥

@SephPlays He definitely was! My mom was a 1st generation Elvis fan girl. She took me to his movies as a baby. It was just meant to be. I am a child of 1962. I adore him. He sang me through a lot of tough times. I cried and cried. I never got to see him. Ironically, at the time he passed, unbeknownst to me, I was listening to his How Great Thou Art album and his then new release Moody Blue. In 2010 I finally had the chance to go to Graceland. You feel him everywhere!! I took him some flowers and bawled for 20 minutes. I began to hear him singing Danny Boy in my head. And I did bend down and told him I love him. Truly, I did. I cried some more.
I love to work on my family tree and I discovered that. I am a cousin to Elvis!!!!!!

@Sephplays BTW the home recordings, try not to listen too critically to them. They are just "E " having fun. They are historically significant. And it is Elvis playing that piano. Lol! He played the piano in You'll Never Walk Alone and many others. The home recordings the tech was the best he had. I doubt he ever thought those would ever be heard. My Happiness was recorded for his momma. You've noticed his voice progression. It gets better! 😉

Elvis often did funny things like this on stage. I was 15 when my idol did and I literally stayed in my bed (in Australia) and cried for 2 weeks. Missed 1 week of school and then school holidays. I thought I would cry every day for the rest of my life.

Also, I love the moments in the middle when it starts to really take off where he is looking back over his right shoulder at his drummer The Fabulous Ronnie Tutt, and they are just egging each other on to go harder and harder. They were really good friends. And that bass guitar line is absolutely phenomenal, as are the backing vocalists as always.

One of his best performances, everything about that was perfect. That rumbling rhythm section and the singers. His odd dance is actually duelling with the drummer. You might know by now that every movement he makes is a signal in conducting the band.
The drummer is insane and he used to say it was like playing for a stripper on a pole playing for Elvis. He always had fun on stage and the little flirtation with the singer is pure class.
His hips though, 'kin hell. Ive watched this 17M times. In the studio version there is definitely one breakdown and this dinner time show was heads and ahoulders above the later 1am show.
    So cool ❤

This song and this performance is equally enjoyed by ladies & gentlemen. ALL the audience loved him!
I watched your other Elvis reviews fr the last two days and understand the tears. It was a tragic loss!
aww, sweet seph. Mourning Elvis thru this difficult time. In watching so much of Elvis you've grown to recognize the purity and innocence of this fey, beautiful being.
It is why by the next day after the world got the news of his death, over 80, 000 people converged on Graveland from all across the Country.
It took 100 vans four hours transporting the floral tributes from Graceland to Forest Hill cemetery.
And THAT kind of response was before the internet, and cell phones.
This man was loved and that is what your sweet soul is tapping into. You love him just like the rest of us.
And therefore, we love you, too.

For at least 3 years this was the showstopper, the workout song. Later on it was more pure vocal songs like American Trilogy and later How Great Thou Art and Hurt. But the purpose of this song was to turn him loose for 4-8 minutes and make the women scream. I've heard reviewers bitch about the length and repetition but the point was the continued spectacle, the bring the house down moment. Probably his best pure performance ever, although after the breakdown there's a combination of 2 performances spliced together. There's another one as good or better from the movie and same Vegas engagement.

His recordings are also top notch, right up to the very last one. Absolutely enjoyed this reaction!! I love how you love Elvis! I was a kid when he died- I knew his music but wasn’t overly interested at the time, though I did think he was very handsome! After my father died suddenly in 2000 I packed away his Elvis albums because it was too painful. Elvis and my father are connected in my memories. Fast forward to 2022 I decided to watch the new Elvis movie and it changed everything! I cried through the whole movie and finally let my grief be felt. Afterwards I brought out the records and have been rediscovering Elvis. I’m enjoying listening to the music and remembering so many wonderful things about my dad! Crazy thing my youngest daughter was born on August 16th. She’s 16 today- so I am going from happy for her to sad remembering the tragic ending that occurred 46 years ago. Now my daughter and Elvis will be forever connected in my mind! 💕

    Hey there, Seph 🙋
    I'm back!
Okay so there is actually a whole story behind both the song itself & how the song and Elvis crossed paths.
So first: "Suspicious Minds" was written by Mark James & first recorded by him (a country version) in 1968. Chips Moman was the producer of his record released by Scepter Records.
You will see the connection further on.
But before we get to Elvis's version, let us dive into how the song "Suspicious Minds" came about: James was playing on his Fender guitar and Hammond organ pedals and came up with a melody. The storyline of the song is based on James's personal experience. He was married but still had feelings for his high school sweetheart who was also married. James felt all three of them were "caught in a trap that they could not walk out of".
Now then: "Suspicious Minds" Elvis's version & recording: Recorded at American Sound Studios in Memphis, Tennessee on January 23, 1969 between the hours of 4:00 a.m.- 7:00 a.m.
There are two producers listed: Felton Jarvis/ Chips Moman (I'll explain the story behind that too further on).
Lady Back Up Vocals: Donna Jean Godchaux (future vocalist for The Grateful Dead), Jeanie Greene, and sisters Mary & Ginger Holliday.
    Harmony Vocals: Elvis Presley
    Musicians:
    Guitar: Elvis Presley
    Guitar: Reggie Young
    Drums: Gene Chrisman
    Organ: Bobby Emmons
    Bass: Tommy Cogbill
    Bass: Mike Leech
    Piano: Bobby Wood
Piano: Elvis Presley (I'll Hold You In My Heart)
Take 1: Long False Start 1:46
Take 2: Long False Start 0:40
Take 3: Long False Start 0:30 (Preceded by rehearsal)
Take 4: Long False Start 1:25
Take 5: Long False Start 4:06 (1st rehearsal + Long False Start + 2nd rehearsal)
    Take 6: 2 Long False Starts + Playback 3:51
    Take 7: Playback
Take 8: (M) 4:06 ("I'm saving the last take for me" Undubbed Master)
Overdub Master: Back Up Vocals on January 24
Vocal Overdub Master: 3:23 Harmony vocal overdub by Elvis on January 24
Overdub Master: 3:24 String overdubs on May 7 (afternoon)
Overdub Master 3:24 Bass overdub for stereo master on August 7 (afternoon)
    Extended Master 4:25 Splice of 0:00- 3:03+2:47-3:03+2:47-3:03+2:47-3:03+2:47-3:24
Faded Master: 4:23 Fade Out: 3:19- 3:34/ Fade in 3:34- 3:47 of extended master.
Overdub (M) 3:24 Bass overdub for mono master on August 7
    Extended (M) 4:23 Splice 0:00- 3:03+2:47- 3:03+2:47- 3:03+2:47- 3:03+2:47- 3:24
    Faded Master 4:23 Fade Out 3:19- 3:34/ Fade In 3:34- 3:47
Re- Recording 3:41 Re- Recorded backing track.
Now then: Defining Moment of "Suspicious Minds": The defining moment of "Suspicious Minds" is the "fade out" and "fade in" elements. How that aspect of the song came about is surprising. Chips Milan told The Wall Street Journal Felton Jarvis was not happy that Elvis had decided to record at American Sound Studios. It was a "control" issue. Moman stated: "So when Jarvis took the tape of 'Suspucious Minds', he added this crazy 15- second fade towards the end, like the song was ending, and brought it back by overdubbing to extend it. I have no idea why he did that, but he messed it up. It was like a scar. None of which mattered. Soon after the song was released, Elvis was back on top of the charts."
Performed with the fading in and fading out became the centerpiece of Elvis's on- stage performance of the song.
Finally: Elvis's manager, Tom Parker, did not want Elvis to record the song due to publishing rights. (In other words, Tom Parker would not get his cut on the publishing rights on "Suspicious Minds". A refresher on that later.)
So Elvis went ahead against his manager to record "Suspicious Minds". Elvis's decision to follow his artistic instincts over royalties to record "Suspicious Minds" paid off both in the short term and the long term. "Suspicious Minds" proved to be timeless.
Elvis's version became his final #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Many other artists would go on to cover "Suspicious Minds".
Okay now for the story as told by Mark James himself how his song & Elvis crossed paths.

In a conversation with Bart Herbison of Nashville Songwriters Association International, James told the story of writing the song and how he got it into Elvis' hands.
Bart Herbison: Let’s start with the fact that you did (the song) first.
Mark James: I did, oh yeah. 1968. I recorded for Scepter Records. Worked with Chips (Moman, producer). They loved it, up at Scepter Records. They said, “Smash!” Chips and I went up there and we had a big party, a big promotional thing, 25 promotional people were there. They all said "smash, smash, smash" and they even gave Chips a Rolls Royce for producing that. … It was a small label and maybe they didn’t know how to market it like Atlantic or other people. Anyway, it never happened.
It was a tough blow for songwriting great Mark James when his 1968 single, "Suspicious Minds" - which he recorded himself - failed to become a hit.
But it ended up being a blessing in disguise when Elvis Presley recorded the song one year later, taking it to the top of the charts. It's gone on to become one of his most beloved, well-known songs.
BH: Let’s go back, though, to when you wrote it. Tell me about writing that song.
MJ: The title came to me one night. I was playing organ bass pedals at an apartment I was living in and I was getting kind of a riff thing, same riff, and I was getting the groove of it, playing bass pedals. And then when I got a certain portion, I went to the studio and finished it up on grand piano. And when Chips heard it, he said, “Man, I want to cut that on you,” and he was real excited.
But, let me skip to when Elvis was coming in - they had booked the studio for two weeks. I didn’t know he was coming in with 40 songs. I didn’t know that. But I kept working on it, trying to come up with that one song and I can feel it sometimes. I know when a song is in the air, I know when something’s there, and I try to grab it or capture it. But I kept saying something’s there and I was trying to capture it, and Don Crews was the publisher, and every time I’d go back to American Studios he’d say, “Well, you capture that for Elvis yet? You know he’s coming in in a week and a half.” And I said, "No, not yet, not yet." … We went to about two days before and he says, “You know Elvis is coming in two days.” I was down, man, because I still hadn’t come up with anything. (Don) says, “What about your old catalog?”
… By the time I hit “Suspicious Minds,” he said, “What about 'Suspicious Minds'?” I turned around in the chair and it was like seeing a golden number one and I knew that was the song I’d been looking for. And of course, I said, “That’s the song I’m looking for, that’s the song!” And I felt like - and I knew most of the guys with Elvis, some of them working there, around Memphis - felt like telling George Klein, Marty Lacker, I felt like even shaking Elvis and saying, “This is a great one for you, man, to record.” But I knew probably everyone in the world had probably said that to him. So all I could do is tell all the guys around him, “Get him to cut this, this is a great one for him!”
… Sure enough, when Elvis came in, he played it for him and Elvis said, “Let’s hear that again.” And I wasn’t there. I stayed away. And sure enough, he got it several times, liked it so much Chips made a tape for him. He took it home.
I stayed away (from the recording session), but I went to the studio one time. I went upstairs and I heard they were taking a break. … I was curious and at the same time I said, “Is he really Elvis and is he going to cut ‘Suspicious Minds’?” - that’s the main reason I went in there. And I went in there and he happened to be leaning up against the baffle. It’s real funny, I said, “Hey Elvis, I heard you might cut ‘Suspicious Minds.’ ” And he said, “Hey Mark, been thinking about it,” you know, just like Elvis would say it. ... But, I mean, this was a great guy. He invited me to Vegas when “Suspicious Minds” was going up, and I remember he was at a table talking in a long room with Sammy Davis or Andy Williams, two people, way across the room. And I came in the room and he walked, stood up, walked clear across the room and said, “Hi Mark. How you been doing?”
I said, “Man, this guy is something else, y’all.” Classy guy, you know?
