Fun Fact: Princess Diana was a huge fan of MJ. In 1988, when she went to his Wembley Stadium Show, she asked him if he would perform "Dirty Diana" at his London concert. It was her favorite song. 😄
'When Michael was interviewed by Barbara Walters, he explained: "I wrote a song called 'Dirty Diana.' It was not about Lady Diana. It was about a certain kind of girls that hang around concerts or clubs, you know, they call them groupies. I've lived with that all my life. These girls... they do everything with the band, you know, everything you could imagine."'
Michael had a lot of dark moments growing up and since his family was very religious, he grew up seeing his dad/brothers doing the opposite. People are so eager to sell themselves for fame. He even told a groupie to not go back stage with his brother because she’ll came back disappointed from being used, which is normal thing in the industry. He sensitive to wicked behavior, which is one reason people thought he was gay in his youth because he was shy.
Watched this a million times and still get goosebumps.. so many elements happening at once it's hard to focus on one.. from his insane vocals, the guitar, his dancing, the overall background.. insane!!
The Bad era, the aesthetic, the performances, the music... pure sex. The first time I saw the Dirty Diana video it took me several days to recover 😂

In the Bad Album, MJ had shed his shy bubblegum image. I believe this song marks the time in his adult life when he actually experienced the hurt and pain of loving and lost. I don't think the lyrics of the song were really written about Diana Ross but I guess feeling rejected by her, the song evolved and became about her. There are some video clips titled 'When Michael Jackson got Jealous ', which showed his facial expressions when onstage with Diana Ross during the 1986 AMA awards. This occurred a few months after her marriage and the hurt in his eyes was plain to see. In past live performances with Diana, there seemed to be quite a spark in MJ and he was always flirtatious with her. The fact that MJ named Diana in his children's custody shows that he still respected and valued her as a close trustworthy friend. There is a 'Diana Ross Special (1971) skit', where a 13 year old MJ acted as Diana's beau. Great reaction as usual 😊

Michael actually did hurt himself while dancing, on numerous occasions, but in this specifically. The director Joe Dytka (who did The Way You Make Me Feel) said towards the end of the video there was supposed to this huge storm, which is why at the start there's wind, the storm was supposed to progressively build throughout the performance. But Michael Injured his knees and stuff from slamming on the ground so he was unable or didn't want to film anymore so they just scrapped the storm idea
In Michael’s 1987 Ebony interview he said the song was about groupies. Diana was a catch all name for groupies. That interview is on TH-cam. I hope you plan to watch it.

So as others have mentioned, Michael did say this song was about groupies, which absolutely makes sense. The constant temptation while touring would be really hard on any relationship, or any person. So I accept that storyline and it works.

As always, I strongly think this song is actually about Diana Ross. Firstly, the name. He was in love with Diana for years and was heartbroken around the time he was writing this. Imagine writing a song about groupies and/or prostitutes and naming it after the woman who just broke your heart and NOT having it be about her. I mean, c'mon. But more importantly, I presume that this song is about Michael's perception of Diana, feeling used by her, finding her manipulative, etc. In fact, I think the storyline of this song aligns with the storyline of Leave Me Alone (lyrically... the short film is its own thing). In DD I see Michael so frustrated by this woman who he is trying to resist, trying to get away from, who he knows is bad for him, but who he gives into even when he has a "baby at home who's probably worried tonight." That's why I think he cries at different points. That's where I think the passion and rage comes from. It's not just resisting hot sex from a groupie. It's resisting a woman who relentlessly uses men, and who has used him before.
Waooo, your comment about Diana Ross really make you think, I mean I don’t think he is going to said in an interview that the song was about Diana Ross or anyone else in such case. And yes, the narrative about the groupies also makes sense at the same time. But the passion and the anger he expressed in this song is huge.

This is one of my absolute favorites from Michael! It was written and composed by him and obviously reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In this song you can see that Michael vocals showcase his versality as he adapts his singing style to the rock genre (in "Beat It" too but in this one more).
This song talks about groupies (basically yes, they are basically prostitutes lol), more specifically it's about a seductive and manipulative girl called Diana (not the princess, fun fact is this was her favorite song haha) who is persuing Michael's attention. It addresses themes of fame, obsession, and the negative impact of fame on personal relationships. The guitar solo is performed by Steve Stevens.
About the video, this is not a real concert (I actually dont remember if its a combination of multiple concerts from the Bad Tour but I don't think so). It was directed by Joe Pytka, the same as "The Way You Make Me Feel". This is a taste of what Michael's concerts will be like.

In the bad era sometimes when Micheal spins he drops down and lands on his knees. He does that on his bad tour when he performs the song, man in the mirror. He would also do the same thing when he performs dirty Diana in the bad tour too. When he spins and drops down and lands on his knees, it doesn’t hurt. He just gets used to it

No it was not a concert. It was produced as a short film and the filming took place in Long Beach in March 1988.
The Model who acted as Diana was Lisa Dean known for commercials for Levi‘s 501.

When you do man in the mirror it's imperative that is the moonwalker version. It's generally agreed it's by far the best version.
There's no subtitles on that version though and the lyrics are very important in that song.

The song is officially a general song about a groupie. Fan theory is that he wrote it with Diana Ross in mind an changed it to a groupie song later.
He's on record saying he loved Diana Ross and thought he was with her and saying he wanted to marry her and that it took him years "a hell of a long time" to get over her. There are a whole lot of songs of his that could be about her, but this one bearing the name Diana is definitely on the list of probable ones.
The guitarist is Steve Stevens who was also Billy Idols guitarist.
I believe the sillouetted woman playing "Diana" is Sheryl Crow who was a back up singer on the Bad tour and sang Siedah Garrett's parts in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" live.

1) man in the mirror it's the first song in the moonwalker movie so he shouldn't react to before the movie
2) i prefer if he skip the victory tour even thriller songs as there are some similarities in the performances between victory tour and the bad tour and of course bad is better version so i have 2 plans:
- he skip all the victory tour and start the bad tour according to the list
