    Weekend #3 progress of me and the boys new project. We needed to replace our old rotted out smoker, and found a big air tank. Join us as we convert it to a reverse offset smoker! We shall call it.....The R-BQ!!!

    Thank you all for watching, for the great comments, and the encouragement! I decided to break this series into smaller segments and give weekly updates instead of making one longer video every couple weeks. Lots of progress, but lots of welding and detail work left to go. Let me know if you have any questions or if there is something you want to see. Also, if anyone knows of some better wheels/tires for the back side that will take the weight (without going to solid casters), send me the info. Thanks!!!

      @@bluecorddevel2564 I didn't see any that were wide like these. I need to find some that are wide enough that I can roll if over some gravel or dirt if I needed to. Only solid ones I found were for the dolleys, and they were too skinny. Now I know why guys mount these on trailers!!!

      @@sthompson2770 Great idea. The ones on there are 10". I can probably get a little bigger into those caster mounts, but not sure how much... Also thinking about making that back set of casters a solid axle and reinforcing it so they don't buckle and have that thing land on top of me!!! I'll look into it!

    Glad to see I'm not the only one who dislikes expanded metal cooking grates!

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IF I would have had some SS expanded metal laying around the shop, I may have gone that way, but am glad I didn't. Had tons of SS Rod left over from a cancelled job, and it worked out great! By not welding each bar solid into the frame, it allows them to expand/contract without warping them. Still gotta make the racks for the upper level...

    Do you remember the height and diameter of the pipe for the stack

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pipe I used was 5.25" Inner Diameter, and about 32" from the bottom of the collector (26" from top of collector) to the top of the pipe. I keep the stack cover closed ~80% while cooking, so you could probably get away with a smaller diameter pipe, but it's nice to have the size when firing it up/warming it up to be able to run it wide open and get great air flow.

    Good thing you've got wheels on that bad boy. Whatcha gonna cook first?

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm trying to figure out how and with what to upgrade those back wheels! Got some bad ideas jingling around in the old noggin! ;) The casters are straining quite a bit. Last thing I want is for those things to buckle over.
      Probably gonna start out with some ribs and pork shoulder or loin. Don't wanna screw up an expensive brisket on the maiden cookout!

    • @RobPainless
      @RobPainless 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OOMAN Good call on the poke shoulders.
      You might need to think about putting a single axle under it and upgrading it to a trailer mounted smoker. Then you have the bonus of portability plus a place to carry wood, charcoal, tools, etc....

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RobPainless Definitely thinking about going to a solid rear axle. Trying to avoid going to a full blown trailer. It'd be nice if I could load it in the toy hauler and take it to campouts or R-Syndicate meet-ups (or would that be meat-ups???). Might need a winch to get it in and out though!!!

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randycook8413 I just went back to the CAD File. I cut the legs 16 3/8" long, then put a 15* angle on the bottom, a 38* angle on top, and then took my grinder to contour the edge to fit the tank. I cut a 24" diameter circle out of cardboard as a template, marked up the legs, and got rid of excess material so that the gaps were minimized for easier welding. With the casters I have on there, this gave me a 36" grate height. Me and the boys are tall, so we made it a bit higher so we wouldn't be crouching over it. Make adjustments so it's most comfortable for you...

    What is the tank thickness

    • @OOMAN
      @OOMAN  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was an air tank, so it is 1/4" thick. Takes a little while to heat up, but holds incredibly consistent heat once it's there!
