  • Did our frugal ways backfire this time? We are in desperate need of a portable carport to protect our Toyota motorhome from the relentless storms this season. Instead of buying a new one, we decided to go the DIY route. Unfortunately... we made a big ol mistake on the planning of this one.

    It’s crazy how much it rains in Cali, I had no idea! Definite teatherball vibes! The dance moves are epic as always! Dang, at least you’re only out half the money, that tarp is massive! I’m excited for this 24hr live! I hope to catch it throughout the w
    Day! Great video guys!

      Yeah, right!? It has definitely been putting a damper on things. Haha we may have something in the works to redeem our tarp structure! If you don't catch the live, we will also have video the following week about it :)

    I was cringing when I though you expected a concrete filled bucket to hold up a tarp. If all four risers were connected and there was bracing for all the corners, then it would have worked providing no high winds there were enough to lift it all up. I would have been happier with double the concrete or a stack of weights on top of each bucket.

    I know it was over 1 year ago now, but I'm binge watching all of your videos and the thought came to me now that your solution would of still worked, you just needed two lines to tie in at the top of the poles and stake the lines to the ground on the opposing end like you would do with a tent, offsetting the weight of the tarp with the lines.

      Yeah that’s definitely the truth 😆 thankfully we made it work down the line.

    Sorry to hear about your discovery the hard way. Your result is why I went with the 13 x 20 portable garage. Wind will tear apart most DIY efforts. How about some PVC pipe to make a hoop/garage structure and put your tarp on that? Brace it with rope so it doesn't flex much. You can use the concrete buckets to hold it down? You want it at least 13' wide, preferably 15' if you tarp the walls. The garage I use has been through 2 WI winters with 60+ mph gusts and it has held up great with just an anchor bolts holding each corner. You will get to where you need to be. I have faith!

      Oh shoot that sounds like a great structure. We have one idea we are going to try today and if that doesn’t work then explore new ones. Thanks for sharing this!

    Had to miss a lot of the Sunday line up today but catching up now. You guys are cracking me up with your antics, don't ever stop that. We really need to get you to 1k so I can super chat you, would you be up for being a guest on a live stream? Just reply yes if so and I'll email you about possible dates we could do it (Wednesday and Sundays at 7pm CST are when I'm on, so I think that's 5pm "Sasquatch time"

    Very entertaining guys! Maybe you can still make it work with strapping those buckets with some rope tie downs and heavy tent stakes into the ground further back off to the sides. 🤔

      @JoeandEmmaLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! That’s a good idea. We may have a redemption up our sleeves. Found a frame for a canopy that matches our tarp size 🤞🏼

    Well Hello. Thank you so much for doing these videos. HUGE help. I’ve watched everyone for the past 10 months . I have a 1985 Toyota travel mater. Love it. Was wondering if you know where to get parts for the motors for this era. I’m up in BC Canada not having much success.

      So glad these videos can help in some way! I can ask around and see if anyone knows where to get that part! We haven’t had to buy a whole lot of parts yet but I’m sure it’s out there!
