That was actually a mistake, but it ended up working out. I forgot to reset the gain on the drum rack to 0. As long as the kick is set at a level that leaves head room (which doesn't even really matter anyway, I just prefer that things aren't red lining while mixing or producing) and that you can anchor everything else to, it doesn't matter a whole lot what the fader volume is set at. So the drum rack could be set to -12db and then you just leave the volume of the kick at 0 I think that would work just fine. I used to use xfer Nerve for drums so I got used to that.

What about Multiband compression ? It's an easy way to make a boom using a kick .
Multi band can be useful but I usually don’t find it necessary.
Just use OTT
